- Dougie MacLean's most famous pieces include "The Gael", from his 1990 album The Search, which was adapted by Trevor Jones as the main theme to The Last of the Mohicans (1992); and "Caledonia", from his first album. The World Famous Royal Scots Dragoon Guards have been at the forefront of Pipe music since first achieving world wide fame in 1972 when their haunting version of "Amazing Grace" rocketed to the top of the charts all around the world.The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards are Scotland`s senior regiment and only regular cavalry regiment. The Regiment was formed in 1971 from the amalgamation of the 3rd Carabiniers ( whom were themselves the result of the amalgamation of the 6th Dragoon Guards the Carabiniers and the 3rd the Prince of Wales Dragoon Guards in 1922) and The Royal Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons).
The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards are Scotland’s most senior and only regular cavalry regiment, formed in 1678. The Regiment has recently re-rolled to Light Cavalry after 75 years in tanks and has also moved from Germany to Fife. The Regiment is currently undergoing training to be at readiness as the Light Cavalry Regiment of choice.
The new role of Light Cavalry is at the forefront of the British Army’s organisation, primarily as a mounted combat unit, but also working alongside other armies around the world. The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards form the main armoured force for the 7th Armoured Brigade, The Famous Desert Rats.

I’m ex army and many of my Scottish brothers were with me in battle I’m English and trust me these Scott’s are one of the toughest bunch of men I have ever fought with, they no no fear and would of gave their life for me in a heartbeat, as would I. Im an American piper of Irish and Scottish descent. As i listen to a tune I know how to play and watch the video, I am homesick for a land I've never seen with my own eyes. My feet have never set foot on irish or Scottish soil but for some reason my heart remembers it and longs for it

My ancestors settled here in the mountains of Colorado because it reminded them of the Highlands of Scotland...My dad used tell me stories of his parents & friends gathering to dance in their remote cabins to the pipes & fiddles...I will never forget my aunt leaping & whirling around her kitchen to show me the Highland reels...

As a kid I hated the bagpipes but now as a grown man it's the most beautiful and emotional music I've ever heard
I can recall way back in 69 the CO at a Fire Support Base in South Vietnam would have his batman play the pipes at 'stand to' as the sun went down.
All was dead quiet, except for the haunting sound of the pipes. Something I remember to this day.

I was in NewZealand on holiday one of the highlights of the trip was a Boxing Day celebration of ex pats all Scottish having their annual high land games, how wonderful to see the Scottish pipers leading the start of the games, they were dressed in their different tartans, they came down a glen all playing the pipes it was sight to behold, I’ll never forget that day the atmosphere was electric.
Great so wish I’d been there..
Traveled in Scotland decades ago. Sad i can't quite afford to retire there. Breathtaking country. Found Scots in general far more polite than Americans of which i am one. I am a Reed so can claim a wee bit of the Highlands. God bless bonny Scotland......

Listening to this, April 8, 2024 mid afternoon in Ontario, Canada. Cloud covering the eclipse where I am. But this song is my mood today. And this world is, and will continue to be a wonderous world. Our challenges are just a blip in time. This is a perfect sound and scene to remind me of the beauty of nature in this world. There's good to still be found here. The Pipes and Drums indeed stirs our very hearts and souls.

My father was a regular soldier in the Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons) and served in WW2.
He served from the beginning to the end, but we didn't find out until after he died what a hero he'd been and had been awarded the Croix de Geurre for gallantry in Belgium. He never told anyone. A modest hero and a good father and grandfather. He loved Scotland.
God Bless Him and Scotland. That unit was pushed to the limits throughout the entire war.

I was in the Royal Scots Dragoon guards regiment as a young Glaswegian 50 years ago, I heard them play at Redford Barracks in Edinburgh ,practicing for the military tattoo, it was incredible to hear live, my friends and I would take our cargo of alcohol up the outside of the battlements and get drunk , it seems like a lifetime ago now. The pipe bands are incredible. Rock on.

I'm from the Black Sea region of Türkiye. Our region is covered with forests, plains, mountains, rivers, waterfalls and more. Scotland, from what I've seen in movies and on the internet, is very similar to our homeland. We even have musical instruments that make almost the same sound. We call it "tulum", the Scots call it bagpipe. While watching the clip, I remembered our villages. It is very interesting that people in completely different parts of the world live similar lives. I want to visit Scotland one day. I'm sure they have many more unknown similarities with the Black Sea people. Greetings to the people of nature.

@@franklinmills1756 same thing with me regarding the Scottish ancestry and loving the Scottish music but I am also Irish and I love Scottish music a lot because I play the base and tenor drums in a pipe and drum band that is named after the 3rd battalion of the royal regiment of Scotland aka the black watch

I'm a true Irish guy from the south cork city when I hear this song either at home or deployed to syeria with the Irish peace keeping force on u.n. missions Scottish and Irish people are so so s like and yes we have caught our battles and I be been to Scotland so ma y times to me its home a way from home .I bring this with me every deployment I go on long live Scotland and Ireland lands of our braves
