Idk if it’s in this Mario party but for other Mario party games there should be a setting for the rumble or rumble related mini games to where it changes to an exclamation point that appears. That is a neat little easter egg for the shooting minigame. If you're playing as heroic characters like Mario and Luigi, the Shy Guy says he needs a sidekick. And if you're playing as villains like Wario and Waluigi, the Shy Guy asks for a villain instead

you gotta get a rhythm going
So, what happened with the Rocket event is twofold:
1. It works by Bowser Balloon rules, i.e. mashing is NOT what you're supposed to do.
2. Even if it had been executed perfectly, there would be no Stars awarded. As this game has 8-Player mode, events were weighed with that in mind, meaning you'd need two players doing extremely well to get the Star.
...
Actually, if I recall, 8-Player works by giving each player "half" of a controller... You could always choose that mode and just have each of you control both halves.
