      the fact that you think that means he's doing his job right. it's proof of how talented he is. He makes it look effortless, but there's a craft to it

    I've watched countless "behind the scenes" commentary from comedians and Mark Normand has the best. I could pay to hear this dude do a set, and then pay again to hear him talk about how he developed it.
    Dude's awesome

    I don't have the guts to bomb more than once. I feel like the first time it happened it quit all together lol. The way comedians can brush off embarrassment and use that to potentially improve is a rare human trait, and I'm envious.

    • @angelroman3487
      @angelroman3487 Před rokem

      No you'd realize it wasn't that bad and that it gets easier and easier every time you bomb

    • @ericbell1374
      @ericbell1374 Před 11 měsíci +4

      I can tell you as a newbie with less than four months experience: bombing is necessary. If all you did was succeed and kill every time out, you'd never have the guts to keep going once you hit your first dry spell. Believe me bombing is agonizing. All you do is think about it the rest of the night and you don't want to look the other comedians in the eye on your way out the door, but everyone's been there. It also helps to think that it was the audiences fault and they just didn't get it, even if that wasn't the case. That mindset can allow you to go to bed and forget about it. Wake up the next morning, and start planning your next set.

    Great advice! Mark, i love when you and other comedians on the pods talk about the nuts and bolts of stand up and writing. When most comedians start to discuss it on a pod usually one says "ahhh no one wants to hear this" and then the convo changes and im always like "noo! keep going, i wanna hear the nitty gritty, the come up, the intricacies." I enjoy everything you put out man. One of the best joke writers out there. You inspire me. keep up the queefin! 😎✊

    This has always made perfect sense to me, noticing how audiences laugh differently with a comedian they already know as opposed to someone they don’t know at all, it does seem as if you don’t have to try as hard to be funny when people know who you are

      We're doing it in rural Oklahoma it's hard bro. Look at it the way a blue collar guy looks at a fence when it doesn't hold up. He's not like "Oh this fence didn't understand me I'm too smart for it" nah dude get someone to take a video, watch it back, figure out what you did in delivery or wording that fucked it up and try it again. Best of luck from some struggling open mic'ers in the middle of nowhere bro

  • @accavanos

      As a comedian. Paid shows are easier b/c everyone is already in the happy mood b/c they Paid.
      At Open mics, they don't care but if you kill at an open. You will blow the roof off at a Paid show.

    I know I’m funny and quick witted and always felt I would do great at comedy. But the scary part for me is the rejection and tyat also gives me stage fright. So if I could figure out Avery to get past that, I think I would do well with comedy. I always want to be the first Chinese comedian to hit big, but I waited too long and now there are some Asian comedians now. Oh and I’m flexible and since I grew up with blacks and Hispanics, I have a wide range and understand what they feel is funny, but would never expect going from a Chinese man. I just used my ebonics and had this black lady laughing bc she didn’t expect black wit to come from a Chinese guy.
    Thinking since I’m now 60, all the Asians have caught up now bc I was funny back in the 70’s, but never persuaded comedy. So know I’m thinking I should give it a go before it’s too late and face my fears. Btw. most things that I come up with isially surpasses the usual standards.

    Mark, ya fucked up with your netflix half hour. You gotta get more confidence in your jokes, which I think comes with repeition and time (since your hour youtube special that took you a few years is tight af). Keep goin at it though. Don't give up. You're a great joke writer and talk about awkwardness which is going away. Don't let society change you too much, it's cruel to everyone.

      @@ajfp2k8 Very true in part. He's accomplished far more than me and I'm no psychologist. But hey, I am a big fan that means well. I think he has the drive and love of comedy to become great. Hell what he's going through now would make an interesting hour. Sniff. A fucking god damn brave one. A possibly alienating one. But one I would enjoy. I think with the DIY release schedule it is now up to the artist to decide the polish of their releases and him as well as Morril are adjusting to releasing too much too fast without polish.
