How to Destroy Wasp, Yellow Jacket Ground Nest Video - naturally using soap and water

- How to destroy, get rid of an underground bee, wasp, yellow jacket nest using soapy water. No harmful pesticides needed - organic green method. Do it at night when the wasps aren't active. Get some dish soap, a water hose and some door screen (the door screen may not be necessary - but I don't like getting stung so I was ultra protective). Place the screen over the hole, squeeze a good squirt of soap down the hole and then shoot the water from the hose down the hole. I've used this several times and it always works.

lawnmower guy is my buddy from high school. Good mechanic but not so smart when it comes to wasps.
StevesVids cool
Yes
We wanted to see someone using a lawnmower to kill the wasps :D
No one's talking about school here
XxHunterKittyxX Yeet no one was talking about you either but yknow.. you’re here
Genius! Simple, effective, low toxicity, quick. The screen cover is really innovative. Thank you for a great demonstration.

He was like ok where u goin?
+li chase ya the spider was like " yess kill them "
the only spider I can see is the tiny one running down the hose. if you guys think that is scary you should have seen the one I caught in my house last night. I bet he was an inch and a half across. Don't know what they are called but we call them Wolf spiders. I never kill anything so I catch them in a large pill bottle and take them outside. I have never been scared or creeped out by bugs. Don't like anything crawling on me when I am sleeping though! lol
I used this method and worked like a charm. No more darn wasps.
Great to hear. Thanks for sharing!
He is a professional in my eyes, because he uses a Metal "Fence", so there can be no wasps escaping
My respect👌😝
at 2:17 some neighboring form of arthropod makes an appearance on the hose to observe your genocide of the foul specters
Lol I thought I was the only one

Know what would be cool? Put a lawn mower over the hole and turn it on so when they all fly out they get tore up.
I meant leave the lawn mower over the whole don't move it until the be there dead
+matt d No, lawn Mowers are for pussies, a real MAN uses a weed eater like I did today when I got tagged 10 times, that way the weed eater can keep them occupied while you run like hell. I liked to never got that weed eater back, it was running upside down and the yellow jackets were trying to attack it, lol. I bet at least 200 strong mobilized on my weed eater. The part that was really fun though, was I had leather sandals on, and the first one that stung me got caught in there and tagged me with a 3 round burst, there is a raised triangle there now. The illuminati bee found me.
matt d you're scaring me!
***** thats the craziest yet most awesome thing I've heard in a while
Lmao
I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.
Don't use "suddenly" twice in the same sentence.
Yellow jackets are on the dark side.
That sentence is from starwars when a planet was destroyed😂😂😂
Dude it's a movie quote...
It's a TRAP!
This video helped me out a few years ago! Worked like a charm!! Had to come back to refresh my memory on all the steps cuz I’m having the same issue again. Thank you!!
The BEST/EASIEST way to deal with these kinds of wasp nests are to wait until dark, boil a big pot of water and pour in down the hole while they are asleep. Environmentally safe and very effective. Been doing this for 40 years and had 100% success.
Old school farm Way is just pour gasoline down too... Doesn't really hurt the ground much and it evaporates
@@fm1224 you will contaminate underground water that way
I never thought of boil water. Hehehe!
Thank You!!! So much for the information. I just did this tonight and it all went well. Only a couple got around the screen so I laid down the hose so it would continue to shoot down the hole and stepped away. I didn't get stung and when we were done I didn't see any activity. I'm hoping when I check tomorrow they will all be dead. Bravo! Jane
I used this method on a ground nest of yellow jackets outside the front door of my sister-in-law's house. It worked perfectly. The weirdest thing was after I put the dishwashing liquid in and then poured the boiling water I could hear them buzzing underneath the ground so it must've been a big nest. Thanks for the tip!
Thank you!!!! This worked exactly as your video showed ... and not one sting!!!
Thanks Steve. I had a nest that was near surface and larger hole than video… I covered with screen according to your instructions… actually big hole and smaller hole a few inches to the left. I did not slit the screen… and before I hit em with the soap and water about 50 had woken up… but all went as planned. Thanks again! Only had about 7 wandering around after, which I also took out.
Great to hear that it worked for you. Thanks for sharing.
Here in Australia we grab it with our bare hands and chuck it over the neighbours fence
+Meringue Cake You grab the hole in the ground?
Excellent technique! I've used dawn mixed in a hand-compressed sprayer very effectively for yellow jackets nesting in the ground. Great idea to add the screen for extra protection. Anyone trying this should remember that this should only be done at night; also, yellow jackets often pick old rodent burrows to nest in and these usually have one or two additional entry ways for escape. Put a screen over these too if you can find them. But be careful looking during the day- yellow jackets often have sentries guarding the entryways, and they will investigate you and possibly sting if you stay long enough. Happy hunting!
Love it. No chemicals and really safe at night. Screen great idea!
I tried this method and it worked wonderfully well. Only saw two live yellow jackets over the next week.
Years ago whenever my parents found a nest of ground bees, it was always right near an area where they needed to be working on some sort of outdoor project. Since they needed to get to that area right away, what they would do is they would bring out the Shop Vac, lay the hose on the ground right by the hole of the nest & then turn on the Shop Vac. They never had to worry about getting stung because as soon as they came out of the hole, they got sucked up into the Shop Vac. I remembered this a couple years ago when we were having a new fence put in. The crew members came to the house asking if we had any spray because they ran across a ground bees nest right next to the area where they needed to put in a fence post. I told them of my parents little trick/tip so we hauled out the Shop Vac & they were able to get the fence done without having to worry about a single ground bee. :-) If you try this, though, make sure you let the vacuum run for a bit after it sucks up the last one just to make sure the last of the live bees suffocated. If you shut it off right after it gets sucked up, sometimes they don't die right away & will fly back out of the hose.
I had paper wasps that went into a crack at a corner where the wood met. Spraying didn't work as their nest apparently was not in direct line to spray. Apecide powder didn't work. So I noticed they would slow down, land and walk into the crevice. I set up two Shop Vacs with long extended rods set near the hole and walked away. I felt bad for my neighbors as I ran them at dusk for quite a while two consecutive evenings and you could see and hear the wasps being sucked into the Shop Vacs and then I sprayed into the Shop Vac hose. Poured Apecide into the hole and then sealed it.
put some water and dish soap in the bottom of the shop vac
Dood watch out!!! There is a fucking spider on the hose!!!
Xd
He doesn't care
Ok, glad I'm not the only one who noticed, I freaked out inside.
joe Recto I have a phobia, ok?
+joe Recto Why so salty over a comment?
I did this (looks good but I'll check again for the yellow jackets) with one little change: used a small crumpled tube of chicken wire to hold the screen in place in the entrance of the nest. Thank you so much!
That tip of the screen is great! Never thought of that. Thanks Steve.
I like how a spider on 2:18 just crawls up the water hose minding its own business.

I was edging my grass this morning and in one spot the next thing I knew they were all over me. I was stung five times and now I'm itching and burning and swollen, haha. I'll do this ASAP. Thank you.
I did this trick last night. Worked like a charm. Thanks.
Dan Kreis. Glad it worked! Thanks for reporting on your success.
Hope it works for you. I'm 3 for 3 using this method so I've got confidence it will work for you. The next morning you might find a few wasps flying around wondering what happened to their home. I usually fill in the hole with dirt to discourage future nests. Let me know how it goes.
Finally, someone with some sense killed the wasps at night
???
Cool.
You never stop learning.
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the video! I'm going to try this method before doing anything more drastic.
Why use the soap? Do you want them to be clean as they die?
My understanding is that they breathe through their body - they have a bunch of trachea tubes, instead of lungs, that penetrate their body. The soapy water essentially suffocates them.
Doesn't drowning in water do that?
The soap coats them in a sticky layer that prevents them from flying away.
Even with water they can't fly away. He had the hose in the hole and it's filled with water. There's no flying, only drowning. It's filled with water.
+OBAMAS WATCHING ME actually the dirt soaks up tge water
one time I stuck a hose down a huge ant hole in my backyard, and after 3-5 minutes, a hole in my hill erupted with water and ants. Drowned the whole colony of them. Epic.
Thanks I will give this a try!! Seems simple and no chemicals!!🤞🤞🤞
From another video I saw, you don't need to cut a slit in the screen. The soap will get through it just fine, just blast the water and fill up the nest. Add more soap as needed to make it foam up more.
Thanks for this! I have a rather large hive in my yard and am deathly allergic to bees/wasps and have pets that roam around the yard. I was reluctant to use pesticides and this is a perfect solution. I do think they might have an alternate exit so I'll cover that as well with the screen just in case! Edit: After reading up a bit more on ground bee habits I might just use water and not soap. Supposedly this will make them move to another place. If they don't move along then it's soap time!
Tunapaw,
I'm also deathly allergic to stinging insects; bees, hornets, wasps, yellow jackets, bumble bees, etc... All of them. I have a bee nest in the ground next to my grill/patio. The nest is active and I can't get near it. I've been stung recently by this nest. I don't want to kill them, but they gotta go. I'll try the water hose at night using your screen method. I hope it works. I'm extremely nervous about doing this.
@@tunes5077 I wish I could say that the water hose worked, it didn't. Neither did the soap/water. In the end I had to use expanding foam unfortunately which did work. The hornets now live in my neighbors lawn that they never ever cut so it's manageable. Please please wear heavy canvas type pants and jacket with no holes they can fly into, use duct tape. Do what you need to when it's as cold as it gets at night. You do not want to get swarmed and die! Good luck my friend. It's you or them haha.
@@tunapaw use gas.
Molten aluminum works good too... and Nuclear weapons.
Just drop a grenade down the hole
+Random combat evolved elite that always work
Just shove an entire flamethrower in the there
One afternoon, while attempting to play a game designed for calmer temperaments than I possess, my golf ball landed “in” the opening of a nest, in the fairway of the 3rd hole. Not realizing this valuable tidbit, I walked right up to the offending ball and the unamused occupants, lying in wait. It was then, that I suffered the vindictive rage of a colony of yellow jackets, who’s numbers rivaled the population of China (my estimation). I’ll spare you the details, but for over four satisfying minutes, I relaxed and cheered on the hose in this video, with gusto. I would have preferred a tiny guillotine demonstration, or individual live dissections, but time constraints didn’t allow. That said, I thank you from the bottom of my heart, for this quality entertainment ! This was more therapeutic than the year of anger management counseling I was ordered to attend, after seeking several illegal forms of retaliation, at the course. I got away with the gasoline, the first and second night. But, on the third night, the explosives apparently alerted neighbors. Country Clubs don’t like that. 😁
2:17 That little spider enjoying the show! "Mouhahaha death to all Hornets! The world is mine now!"
Yellow Jackets have multiple entrances/exits for their hive, an average of 3 to 5 per nest each can lead up to 10 ft from the main hive. An average/established hive less than a season old can house easily 20,000+ yellow jackets as they are very prolific. Also, yellow jackets ARE active at night. At any given time there are 100 - 1,000's yellow jackets out of the hive at any given time...day or night. Because yellow jackets are very "maternal" shall we say, once the hive's adult population killed off, there are still many scouts (out and about) who will (and I do promise you), will return and attempt to care for the eggs, and larva. They will also begin preparing to create a new Queen. So, attacking one entrance/exit and doing one application will not work. I does however, give you a false sense that you have conquered them, when in truth you have not. In reality, you are potentially putting yourself, your loved ones or your pets in danger of future attacks. Do your research.
I'm certainly not a wasp expert, but I can say this method has worked for me on two separate occasions.
Keepercreek IS correct. They do have back doors. I have seen nests over 6 ft long with what you could call hidden doors under brush and leaves. Yellow Jackets are a real threat. I was stung ALL OVER my face and body. :( So many came out that they completely covered the weed eater which i had dropped while running and screaming with my hands in the air like Kermit the Muthafucking frog. There had to been thousands.. they filled the air of my entire front yard.. about half an acre or a tad less.
The soap melts their Chitin.. the wax that makes up their exoskeleton.. so yes it works. The best way is to actually mix Dawn and water in a bucket and pour it in.. that way you know that you have coated them all.
He said it worked before so you are not right in his case. It did work for him.
+Joshua thehand That sounds terrifying.
I would've poured molten aluminum down there.
same
gasoline and a lit match.
Pee
Also it’s spelled aluminium
Pour concrete
Awesome !! Thanks !! I am gonna try this as soon as I can find their nest. There are thousands of em terrorizing me daily.
Check the ground around mulch...old roots....you will see the hole
I get about a half-pound of dry ice from the local grocery store, put it in a green muck tub, and put the tub upside down over the hole. The CO2, being heavier than air, seeps into all the nooks and crannies of the nest and suffocates all the insects, without leaving any toxic residue or mess behind.
Consider yourself lucky. They usually have another exit and have sentinels in the grass nearby at night. I know this because I found out the hard way. On another note, you can also take a handful of Seven Dust and toss into the hole. As they enter and leave the nest they become contaminated with it and then contaminate the nest and it eventually kills them off. Not as fast, but less work.
Thanks for the tip! In your case it was very easy with such a large opening. I had to eradicate few nests and every time it's different. If it's under bricks, it might be hard to identify entrance or they might have several. I put on my "bee suit" and used water+detergent method during the day. That actually worked as I was pouring it in and removing bricks at the same time. When I got to the actual nest I dozed it with some wasp killer spray and fortunately got the queen. Workers showed up for few days after but then disappeared.
Next year I had similar nest nearby so I tried "sevin" insecticide powder. I dusted half container above entrance at night. There were few wasps patrolling in the dark! Next morning I saw something I couldn't believe. One two of them were flying out holding something in their feet. They were EVACUATING. I never heard about wasps doing that. But there was no-one back there after that...
What were they holding in their feet?
If I hadn't just seen it for myself, I would have thought your story of seeing live hornets carrying another was made up. I have seen several appearing to attend to one, and just saw one pick up and fly off with another.
Idk how I got to this part of CZcams but I love it
k so what to do when the grass around the hole is over a foot tall? i ran my mower over it when i first found the hold not knowing it was there and got stung ... i tried a full can of wasp killer and it didnt work. now the grass is really tall around the entire area? no way to put screen down
Man I just wrecked this wasp nest in my front yard like a secret agent at 4 am. Not just any normal wasps, these things were like 2 inches long. Nasty suckers. Had 3 main holes to their hive a couple feet apart. So I had it all planned out. In a 30 second period, I plugged one with a scoop of dirt, stomped it down, poured like a pint of lighter fluid down the second so the fumes would suffocate them, stomped it down with a hand full of dirt, and then poured a gallon of water mixed with a lot of hand soap down the third before running my ass off. Hope I got those fuckers
like a boss
EnriqueOMG Hehe, maybe, but they had me running like a bitch the day before. Good News though, the mission was a success.
+EnriqueOMG haha
I'm scared to go near wasps and bees cause I'm allergic
+Snipahkiller03 you just go at night. They aren't flying in and out anymore. Just be careful not to stomp the ground and wake them up. If you use gasoline, then none of the wasps ever make it out of the hole alive. If you are allergic it would be best to ask someone else to do it for you, but i have never seen any of them make it out of the hole. Even if they did, you are plugging the hole with the bottle, so they would just fly into the bottle.
Should have done an molten aluminum cast of the thing, as they have done with ants nests. . .
that's expensive af, also you would need a way to heat up the aluminum, most people don't have giant fucking furnaces in their backyard
Yha
king of random shows you an economical way to make your furnace for all kinds of metal.
+ExVentoPax2 still expensive
+willy bob You can do it for under $100, not expensive when you consider it can melt common metals.
i like the addition of the screen to prevent any of the little bastards from getting out!
This technique worked great for me after two cans of wasp spray failed.
Thanks for sharing your success!
Tonight was night 3 of my war with a huge yellowjacket nest. They came out & went in 3 per second so there are a lot. The 1st night I sprayed aerosol spray thinking it would reach the nest then piled dirt onmthe openings. didnt work. Last night my son held the light while I sprayed & dug. I thought they couldnt see at night but with a flashlight on it wasnt night & he got stung. I never found the nest. Tonight I tried dish detergent & water. After an hour I decided to use the shovel & see if I could find the nest. I hit a huge void. I heard what sounded like a plane flying. Then I realized it was from the ground. Then the stings & I ran into the house bringing 4 wasps in my clothing - to the condemnation of the rest of the family. I went back out, took a look. A few were flying around irritated. I turned the hose on higher & will leave it on all night. I lost another battle but maybe morning will bring victory.
Cool story, bro. Worst way to tackle a wasp nest.
And then what happened?? you cant leave the story...please continue... it was getting interesting
lol aersol.I dont even know that much about hornets nests but damn.
Try some actual hornet/wasp spray. Empty a whole fucking can Into that whole and then place something over the entrance. It'll be like a gas chamber for those bitches.
I think the soapy water block the breathing holes on their heads and it also get stuck between their body plates including wings? They get really pissed off before they die.
What's the best time to do it? I was there at 11pm when it was dark for 2-3 hours and wasps were not sleeping but instead crawling around their nest
I got a bee hive on wall out side where the garage door goes up and down. How or what can i put something in the long vertical crack that will keep without silding back down to the concrete? Once the foam bee wasp spray it melts back down into the concrete. This just makes the bees mad. I cannOT get rid of them. Please help? Thank you.
The problem with this method is that the yellow jackets do not suffer enough before they die.
Who else came here from the nail polish lawn mower guy?
lol I love the spider that just sat on the garden hose watching you.
i lov how the little spider helped you fight the wasp nest
& if it doesn't work at least they will be clean..:-)
😭😭😭😭😭😂😂
When he was doing his second dose of soap, did anyone else see the moth in the bottom right corner struggling under the screen?
Moth lives matter
I noticed 3 mounds of dirt in my side yard yesterday...two are kinds close to each other and one about 6 ft. away...and wasps flying around.,,wonder if their all connected...do I put the soap and water down all 3 or just cover up acouple of them? the hole are not at big in any videos that I have seen on youtube..they are much smaller..,.or should I just put gasoline down all 3? Kinda scard to mow out there again or let the dogs out to potty ( two Shih Tzus).,,they like to chase things that fly,..yikes!
do you fill the hole with dirt later the day after? What if you didn't do the soap and water treatment and just packed dirt? Would that be effective or do they dig through?
Would you say that nest was.... cleaned out?
hahaha

Thank you for posting this!
Question, Why do they make they’re nests underground anyway actually void that I’m gonna google it but if anyone has a better explanation to ahead
What if you left a lawnmower over it?
Nooo! My husband tried that and got stung 14 times before he got to the pool with them chasing him.
I stepped on the hole leading to an underground wasp nest when I was fishing, it wasn't the most pleasing experience.
You gave those wasp a great shower.
I just found a nest next to my girls playground , got stung by them because I disturbed them with my weed eater, hurts pretty bad, I’m definitely trying your way to get rid of them, thanks for sharing.👍👍
Make sure you do it in the evening when the nest isn't active. Good luck!
Understand about nitetime application. However not sure about getting that close to the nest to apply. Hmmm
My only suggestion is wear gloves, so your hands don't get stung. Some wasps are active at night. So be prepared if they do appear at night. No flip flops or sandles should be worn when doing this job.
THERE'S A SPIDER ON THE HOSE AND A MOTH IN THE NET, AHHHH!
Great video. Why did I never think of putting a screen over the hole
Safest solution I have seen. Going to try it!
use boiling water, works instantly, and is extremely environmentally friendly!
Matt S I like the boiling water idea better as my water comes from a private well and I wouldn't really want gasoline or soap in my water table.
+Dan Hibiki It sounds great, till you trip.
+Matt S You could also pour oil down the hole and burn the trail of oil while having a bucket on top of the hole. That's what my family did when we had some.
FullSpectrum Survivalist nothing ventured nothing gained my friend
I still can't believe Seattle threw the ball.
i know right you have number 24 aka the best runningback in the league at the half yard line with 2 more downs and a timeout and they pull that bs
Cheap and effective! Thanks!
I recently started leaving an outside light on and read that attracts yellows jackets and bees and have found a ground nest of one of the two about 15 feet from my house. I'm going to find some screen and nail a frame around it to where I can lay it over the hole at night and pour soapy dawn water down in there and go from there. Thought of ordering a bee suit and trying it in the day since amazon has one for $25 with good reviews.
Did anyone else wonder just how big a hole was there when he kept filling, and filling...? Wow!
Ikr!
+da Bob Sometimes there are thousands.
Old gopher hole. Yellow jackets don't dig burrows.
A drop of dawn and wasps are gone (you'll get it if you live in Canada)
How do I kmow if I have ground bees or wasps? Haven't been stung and I've walked through them (even cut my yard) but there's ALOT of them and I'm more worried about the dog getting stung. I don't wanna kill them if they're bees because they're not aggressive.
Saw two of these videos so far and it takes a while to fill up with water. Pretty deep or large caves (in case they go far away and have other entrances etc)

Stop this shit
David Davtyan No
Hahahahah you made me laugh hard good sir.
I've been watching a lot of "StarCraft 2: Heart Of The Swarm" videos so all I could think about is "THE HIVE CLUSTER IS UNDER ATTACK!"
Suggestions for improvement: 1. Either put your dawn in a garden sprayer, then cut the slit put the nozzle of the sprayer over the hole - no need to cut a slit in the screen. Put a brick on the hose/sprayer to hold it in place, THEN go turn on the water. OR 2. My method - after dark set up your screen using 3 bricks. Return to the safety of your house. Pour your bottle of dawn in a 5-gallon bucket. Boil some water on the stove. Fill the bucket with boiling water. Agitate to create foam (I use my drill and a paint mixer). Go back outside and with a red headlamp, pour the steaming mixture over the hole - bricks act as a funnel. If you want to you can pour a second or even a third bucket of boiling water down the hole. Bees can’t come out due to uncut screen/foam.) Place a heavy rock over the hole.
