My Dream Walk-In Humidor Is FINISHED!! Let's Fill It With Cigars! | Vigilant Inc | Kirby Allison

- My DREAM walk-in humidor by Vigilant, Inc., is finally complete! After a long construction process, this beautiful new 200 sq ft humidor is complete and ready to be filled with my collection of cigars.
Just like any wine collector, a proper walk-in humidor is the dream of any cigar lover! And I couldn't be more excited to share with you the final result! Designed in collaboration with Vigilant, Inc, a leading manufacturer of custom wine cellars and cigar humidors, and built by local contractors here in Dallas, this is now a permanent fixture in my office and a place that I can confidently and safely store my cigars for long-term aging.
The process for constructing a walk-in humidor is remarkably similar to that of a wine cellar. First, you need to create a vapor barrier to seal in humidity and insulate the space. This can be done with 3 mil plastic sheeting or, even better, with closed-cell spray foam, which is what I used. Then mold and humidity resistant dry wall must be installed, before installing the interior finishings. I had a local artisan install the wood floor and unfinished pine ceiling. Then the pre-fabricated Vigilant shelving was installed inside the room.
The temperature is controlled using a Wine Guardian D050 conditioning unit that is purpose-built to minimize the removal of moisture from the air when cooling (VERY IMPORTANT!). A Condair RH2+ Humidifier is used to control the humidity. And for good measure, I have installed a Camfil CityM HEPA air filtration unit to ensure that the air is as clean as possible.

Kirby, Don't rush to fill all the shelves/slots... you'll need that space later down the road when you see more "Must-Haves". I made that mistake in the 90's, now with a humidor full with boxes/cabinets of Cubans, I have no room left for new acquisitions, but with the crazy cigar prices now, I'm in no rush. Take it slow.. don't sprint.. enjoy the journey. I think you may have a large enough humidor to accommodate a small display table in the middle of the room. Beautiful Walk-In.. Good Work !

I once received a piece of advice I've never forgotten: use your nice things. The beauty of having something like what you've got is that you get to break into it and turn it from just "a nice looking space" into a "well loved and well used space." Looking at this video made me happy for a number of reasons. Congrats Kirby, literally living the dream. It also made me happy knowing that I am not the only one with a complete and all consuming passion for cigars!!! 😆
Obsessive preoccupation with humidity, LOL!!!!!!! I felt that in my soul. I feel the same way about my fly tying materials and my fly boxes. No matter how many times i organize and reorganize, i never feel that its right.
As for the big open space...
Maybe a flat Brass Kirby Cannon emblem attached to the back wall. Something temporary to fill the space.
Now all you need is 3 chairs, a table, some single malt whisky and the Sahakians!
