I agree. Except this is the first time I've watched non professional type hiking videos. I love it. I'm behind, but my wife and kids hear this every time they get in my car
Thanks! That’s a pet peeve of mine when watching others videos. I tend to like folks like Joey DIY and Scott the Woz who edit a bit tighter than your average outdoor video person.
Another great video of an actual thru hiker, tons of hotel and hostile hikers but few thru hikers. Look forward to the next video, thanks for taking me along, keep on trekkin!!
I met Masochist yesterday on the Pinhoti just north of Snake Creek Gap. I was out doing a day hike when I passed by his camp. He's a great guy and we had a nice conversation. I am cheering for him to make it. His name is fitting as he is faster on the trail (with backpacking equipment) than my own masochistic brother. Stay away from those dogs!
I’ve purchased the Guthook app for the Pinhoti. Now I can follow you and the other hikers. And read the comments, ie dogs, water, etc. I’m planning for next fall. 😀. Thank you for your videos.
Thanks for making me realize I am probably not made to through hike. I get mad when I have to cross a road during a hike: let alone walk on one! I'd rather do shorter hikess in the wild ans watch you walk on a road. Love the videos!
I really don’t understand how you don’t have more followers than Darwin... your videos are vastly more entertaining. I’d love to see a crossover with you and Foresty Forest when you get to Canada! 🤣
Love watching your videos. Getting caught up after taking a week off to backpack the Knobstone Trail in Indiana. Hike to hike or hike to camp. I prefer hike to hike, but my wife enjoys hiking to camp.
Hi I am new here, I saw the part the with that damn awful women and her poor dogs. Man, if you can't be bothered to look after your pups and keep them safe and people around them safe, you simply do not deserve to have them. I bet with a kind and thoughtful owner they would be been sweet dogs, no dogs are born bad, they just have terrible owners, those poor pups. Also you are one of the more entertaining thru hikers I am watching, thank you for the views, sending hugs and good vibes from Wales in the UK
You are really pushing the miles and making good time. Noticed the absence of many camp sites on Guthook I think north of dalton the trail starts to mimic the AT enjoying your hike a lot!!
Thanks! It has seemed like once I got past that one section there are more campsite options again. I am really looking forward to getting to the other side of the Dalton Roadwalk
Matt you're one hell of a man, considering all the road walk you've done. Let's see, the KEYS about all road walk, same with the Florida Trail, not to mention the Pinhoti Trail. As you said it will get better on the Appalachian Trail.
So Impressed with the hiking. Just got off a section hike of the FT (Ocala National Forest). The lighting thunderstorms and tics were the worst. Great job With your goal
I look forward to your videos and so enjoy your commentary. I have also been watching a lot of AT vids (retired with an intermittent medical issue right now so have the time - don't judge my you tube watching time) lol. But I cannot wait for you to hit the AT. You have been solo hiking but you are now fixing to join the parade........and I know you will have a lot to say. But you will also meet a lot (a lot) of people. Looking forward to AT humor. Keep safe and good health.
Just about one week to go! I am looking forward to getting to chat with people. Just as long as I can still manage my solo camps sometimes it’ll be all good
Love watching your hike! I’m not caught up yet, I have you just getting into Alabama! Man, if you could get the word “hiking” somehow in your CZcams channel name, your subscriber #’s would skyrocket and most likely so would your support!! We stumbled across your channel when one of your thumb nails popped up on screen after watching another hiker (don’t remember if it was an AT hiker or maybe Hopfrog on the FT?). But glad we found you! Keep hiking!
Another nice video. The AT is very social and crowded. Most people allow themselves a luxury item. 50 years ago, I carried a 60 pound ruck and a 30 pound gun for about 6 hours a day. A 30 pound pack including a poncho(my luxury item) still seems reasonable. The dog owner is obviously is a Karen, the world exists for her. Reality is not her problem. Good Luck, Rick
Thirty plus big miles! And taking the title of "World's OKest Thru Hiker"! A much sought after distinction. Keeping it positive despite the mosquitos and dogs. Thru hiking, the cure for insomnia, except for ATVs, gunshots and traffic! But nothing like hiking for 30 miles to make sleep easier. Hike on! Tortoise
thank you for sharing. I have found that Repel Lemon Eucalyptus spray keeps mosquitoes at bay. If you are sweating you may have to apply when you stop, but most of the time you spray your arms and legs and the mosquitoes back off. Was that the famous Dollar General where the Karen caused issues for Dixie? The Dollar General that was a mile and a half off trail. Keep safe and your pepper spray ready.
I’ve tried the eucalyptus product in the Sierra during mosquito season but at least for me it only seemed to have an effect when the mosquitos weren’t bad enough to feel like I really need spray. Picaradin has been the only thing I’ve found to be really effective.
Just when we were safely well and gone from FL wet walking...Dixie shows up on the FL trail. sigh....I don't think I can sustain the memories of shredded feet twice this early in the hiking season 😂👉
I can't believe the Pinhoti takes you up the Bypass. I thought the trail went up 100 which parallels the Bypass. So hoping they can fix that road walk one of these days.
I mean on the plus side it does go at a pretty quick pace and there’s lots of potential for people driving by to stop and give thirsty hikers drinks and things. I mean nobody did stop but the potential is there
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes I live in Rome so I'm very familiar with the roads and area. 100 is a much prettier road, the Bypass is very exposed. I've never seen a hiker walking it. There is not much public awareness in the Rome area that a significant trail runs nearby so not an awareness of hiker's needs for rides, drinks, etc.
Well it does seem like the Pinhoti is getting more attention these days so maybe that will change. And maybe they’ll figure out how to reroute these bigger road walks...
You are some kind of dog magnet but not the nice ones. At least you got a waterfall! Seems to be getting more scenic the more north you go. Keep sending it!
Just a reality of the trail out here. Based on Guthooks I’dsay I’m actually a lot less phased by the non-super aggressive ones than a lot of people. There has been a number where I’ve passed and it’s like OK yeah barking dog but he’s totally not going to bite and then I check Guthooks and people are talking about this terrifying aggressive dog
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes sometimes people are not used to outdoor dogs or property protecting dogs who bark because they feel you're a threat. (different than the loose dogs running at you) all too common in the south
For a while there most of the dogs seemed to have those invisible fence collars. I am cautious after a couple of bad incidents but as long as they stay in the yard it’s no big deal after the initial adrenaline rush. And sometimes even if they’re barking and chasing you you can just tell from their body language that they are not a threat. But the periodic pit bull comes out of nowhere
Alabama was actually worse if you can believe that. But I passed through the Sirmans area after those three pit bulls had already been put down and I think I just got lucky with that other pack
Has anyone ever told you your voice sounds a lot like Canadian comedian Red Green? Also, The 'MacKaye' in the Benton MacKaye is pronounced 'Mah-Kai' (rhymes with 'eye')
I found after a few hundred miles on the PCT I could manage just the foam pad instead of my cushy air mattress. Which was good since I kept popping air mattresses that had somehow lasted me for years of shorter trips.
Of the dozens of thru hiking vloggers I’ve watched over the years, you are, hands down, the most fun to watch! Thanks!
Thank you, that’s the nicest thing anyone has said to me all week
I totally agree. I look forward to the vids.
He is freakin Amazing! The mental aspect of his journey is amazing.
I agree!

It was great chatting with you up there :) Sadly I had a bit of a dog issue up ahead past Dalton. Ah the joys of road walking
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes Well, I believe you are on the last part of road walking. Then you can use dog spray money on something else.
That’s what everyone told me but BMT 234 just ahead has a comment about a pit bull bite
