Okay Jim. I want to see you on a skate board before I ask any local kids to swap out my water heater! ;-) Merry Christmas!
Great advice. Thanks
Thanks
Thank you.
How much would you charge for 2 new sink faucets installed? Along with 2 sink drain plugs, shower arm and shower lever? Thanks!
Hard to say. I charge by the hour plus material. I consider this to be a three hour job.
Which do you think is better a compression shut off valve or a solder shut off valve? Thank you Have a Merry Christmas!
John, a good quality solder valve is my choice. Merry Christmas to you!! 🎄🎁🎅
I would say compression shut off is definitely better, for a few reasons, 1) easier to install, 2) cheaper to install regarding tools needed 3) no need for flux and solder, prep brushes and sandpaper, 4) easier to replace when a new valve is needed due to hard water buildup.
I needed a new 40 gal. gas H.W heater (located in garage). I contacted Lowes and the plumber came out and quoted me $2700! I asked him what is hourly rates was and how long it would take him. I told him the flat rate quite seemed extreme. He called his manager and the next quote was $2000, including tax and permit. I though that was more reasonable.
Honestly flat rate pricing is where everything is going. One truck chucks are going out because they are not sustainable. We tried the time and material route and couldn’t grow. Just had a sucky job. Now we are able to afford a livable wage for our employees. Benefits and it makes the business sellable. The old guy way is soon disappearing but until then we are ahead of the crowd.
That’s really sad. You weren’t paying them a livable wage and now you’re making them work on commission. They go to some little old lady’s house and sell them something they don’t need for an outrageous price. When you go to buy a car, that salesman is on commission and you know you’re getting screwed. I sleep very well at night. Can you?
I have worked for those flats rate companies. 10 Grand for a 1 Grand job is standard procedure. It’s all about the sale. I quit after 6 months.
Drew, I bet you’re sleeping better too.
They build into their price, their insurance, gas, vehicle, fancy house, vehicles, kids college fund, wife costs etc... We the customer should not have to pay for this. The way I see it they don't pay my bills, life necessities, etc.
Whats a toilet swap worth ? $250- $500
Do you still do side work?
My wife said I should quit cause I’m getting even more grumpy! No side jobs for me.
Side work is for hacks or underpaid plumbers. Bosses better pay your plumbers right, or else!!
I am getting quotes to replace toilet now for 650 omg!
Haha Hahah, I would install a Toto Drake with ADA ht. for $500. It’s a one hour job and includes toilet and labor. I would bring the toilet with me and haul away the old one. If you’re buying the toilet, it should be an hour labor plus about $30 for parts. I don’t recommend a flat rate plumbing company.
@@TheGrumpyPlumber the guy quoted me without the toilet just for him to install and haul away I was like no thanks hahaha
he's grumpy because he doesn't make any money
Plumbers gouge so bad.
Any company that flat rates are ripping you off.
@@TheGrumpyPlumber I feel like it can go either way. When it's hourly them often charge an insane rate and take their time.
What do you do for work
