    If memory serves,I believe the turbolift was positioned so you could see who was entering or exiting it as they were filming who was in the captain's chair,so they were kind of forced to show it that way when they came out with the blueprints.I THINK I may still have the Enterprise blueprints I purchased as a kid back around 75-76.I think Roddenberry gave this as an answer during a Q&A session after a showing of the original pilot that I attended in the 80's.I can't wait to see your finished model!

    The turbo-lift is off-centered because it was designed for camera blocking, It shows entering/exiting of actors without being blocked by the captain's chair. We only notice the offset because of multiple viewings of the episodes.

    • @scubawrestler
      @scubawrestler Před 4 lety

      That's correct, it had nothing to do with the engineering of the Enterprise. It was purely stagecraft. In reality the bridge would have been straight forward. As fans, we are often too literal when it comes to the show.

  • @ThomasEJohnson
    @ThomasEJohnson Před 5 lety +2

    This is going to be a thing of beauty! Boyd FYI about the orientation of the Bridge, I’ve spoken extensively with Mike & Denise Okuda about this. The bridge being off center is a 1970’s Franz Joseph invention and is not considered correct. They have it direct from Matt Jeffries that the bridge faces directly forward and was always intended that way. The only reason the turbo lift doors don’t line up with the shaft on the rear of the bridge shell is because prior to filming the pilot, the camera and stage crew swapped the communications and turbo lift bridge segment wedges around so whoever was coming through the doors wouldn’t be obstructed by the Captain in his chair, when viewed from the principle camera location....

    There's no way that Matt Jefferies or anybody intended for the bridge to be at a 45 degree angle inside the bridge dome. It's a production error, pure and simple. Fans have drawn plans this way (and I believe some were officially published) in an attempt to resolve the discontinuity, but I prefer to imagine that the protruding turbo shaft serves another purpose. One theory I read is that it's for storing a reserve turbolift or two so crewmembers can quickly evacuate or multiple people can arrive in rapid succession.

      Yes, it can get in the eyes too. I used to model with GRP (glass reinforced plastic) in the UK with garage kits (what we’d now call ‘Third party kits’.)

    If you look on your comments from the first video you made about it. I tell you the scale of the model if it is truly 72 inches. I also mentioned the scale for the model if it is 71 inches as the manufacture source claims. As far as the figures would be concerned there would be less than a 1% difference so it wouldn't be noticeable to the human eye anyway. If You missed it, or cant find it I'll type it again. At 72 inches the scale is 158. a shit load of numbers to the 7th decimal point but rounds out so close to 158 the other numbers are not worth mentioning. If the model is really 71 inches as the kits creator claims then the scale is 160.25 and again more decimal places but the closest round off is the .25.

    Nice how about a couple of red laser pointers for the phasers

    • @TrekWorks
      @TrekWorks  Před 5 lety

      Lasers are cool but I'm not going to put any in for a couple reasons. First, the ones that are powerful enough to be seen have a short life span. They get hot! Second, the phasers actually emit from the lower sensor dome on the tv show. You can drill holes in the saucer a little above that to fit them in but it just doesn't look right.

    • @TrekWorks
      @TrekWorks  Před 5 lety

      As I mentioned during the video I won't be lighting the nacelles in blue. I like the look, but this model is being built to look as close to the original as I can. I believe the model Lou is building is an older 66" version and is a different kit than this one.

  • @kurk1701a
    @kurk1701a Před 5 lety

    Thats a big model ! Look forward to the build series.
    Q) can you explain the differences between this kit you are building and the kit that "Aztek Dummy"-Lou Dalmaso is curently building, (meaning the difference between how the kits were made and what they are made of and the pro and con between the kits ).
    Q) Lou's kit came with a clear resin armiture and mounting rod aswell as construction jigs' why did your kit not come with them and can you get construction jigs for it or is there no need for them because of how your kit was made?
    Q) is the internal 3D printed armiture for the pilons in the main hull strong enough and stable enough to prevent sagging and or cracking of the joint and main hull over time?
    Q) could making the mods to the necells and the saucer section to make them detachable , could this cause them to become misaligned , cause damage and or cracking, from detaching and re-attaching them over time.

    • @TrekWorks
      @TrekWorks  Před 5 lety

      I haven't ever seen the kit Lou is building in person but I do know it's an older fiberglass kit. That kit is 66" long and the one I'm working is 72" and is made of carbon fiber with a resin laminate over that. I don't think the older 66" kit includes the bridge and shuttle bay interiors either. This model is very light weight and strong. It has an inner support for the engine pylons and nacelles that make sure the engines automatically come out perfectly straight and level.
