I emigrated to North America in 1976 when I was four years old. We had a small TV that only picked up a few local stations via antenna. One of those stations played reruns of the original series Star Trek. Within six months of arriving, I was speaking perfect English and had developed a strong interest in science and math. Fast forward and I eventually got a degree in electrical engineering and now live a comfortable life. Thank you Star Trek for inspiring a young mind! :-)
Y’all know that that was done as a reference to a famous painting of the Enterprise in a San Francisco shipyard, right? Or are you people so desperate to slag anything that grows the franchise you’ll even disrespect fellow fans?
That final shot where she rides off into the sunset was so COWBOY I almost teared up, mainly because it really gave new meaning to the phrase "Wagon train to the Stars". Bravo Nicholas Meyer, Bravo!
Her first commander was Captain Robert April, who took the Enterprise out of space dock once the construction was completed. He put her through her paces on several test flights before the Enterprise was officially turned over to Captain Christopher Pike, to take command on her first of many missions. Years later, Captain James T. Kirk took command of the Enterprise.
Using the combination of James Horner's Wrath of Khan theme music and Jerry's Goldsmith's Leaving Drydock music brought tears to my eyes. Probably my two favorite pieces of music in the entire history of Star Trek.
Indeed!! The soundtrack was for the TMP?? But that’s fine! Yet the Enterprise-A, B, C, D, E, need their own TLC moments... The Galaxy class, and Ambassador class were bigger, more leg room, better staterooms, suites and holodecks...
Especially the part where she (the Enterprise) comes around the earth with the sun behind her. I guess you could say those of us who grew up watching Star Trek grew up on that ship. When I finally do get to go the set in upstate New York, I'm sure I'll probably "lose it" while I'm there.
She is a beauty! I was fortunate enough to enjoy the original model in the Smithsonian Air & Space museum in the late 70's early 80' before the restoration. I also got to sit in Kirks chair and step on the transporter pads. I'm 54 now and it's still one of my fondest memories. This is a fantastic job! I especially enjoyed all the cosmetic damage from a 5 year mission. Bravo

I like this video as it shows the Enterprise undergoing a refit before her historic 5 year mission under the command of Captain James T. Kirk and that they're playing the launch music first from Star Trek:TWOK and then when they get ready to launch they start playing the music when they power up the Enterprise and the Enterprise theme song when she launches from the orbital drydock and they even use the same flybys of the planets like they used in Star Trek:TMP.
What a lovely and an extraordinarily well done tribute to the ship that was home base to all that Star Trek ever was or will be. Matt Jefferies would be proud.

Virginia Connor ... Keep in mind that every artificial satellite orbiting Earth came from the surface. It takes a great deal of time, money and energy to launch and set equipment in orbit. If the whole planet could work together, something akin to what you see in the video could be accomplished in a couple decades, maybe. Of course we don't have anything close to speed of light drive, let alone faster than light drive (warp drive). Darn physics.

This is so incredible. I told a friend, and I had to watch it again today. Even on 3-5-2021, this is still such an incredible video showing how Star Trek ships are assembled.
Beautiful. VERY well done. As a kid of the 60's who loves Star Trek TOS to this day, I really appreciate the effort and talent (I'm a 3D animator, too) that went into making this animation. Thx.

Very VERY nicely done!! Outstanding work. Loved how you mixed the musical pieces from the opening theme to TWOK into the launch sequence in the beginning of TMP. Again my compliments.
This is fantastic! Loved how at 3:08 you transitioned from the ST2 theme over to the ST: TMP theme for the power-up and launch. Well done. I'm gonna have to go watch the launch sequence from TMP again now that I've got that music in my head!
Absolutely outstanding job of CGI!! Having done a little bit of it myself, I can totally appreciate how much hard work and how many hours must have gone in. Since this is at least five years old it would be terrific to see an updated version with much more detail on the exterior of the Enterprise's skin. Kudos on a job very well done!
To those who watched the 1960's series, the ship looked dated when seeing it in syndication. Over the years, all of these movies have tried to update the look of the the ship. When they tried to remaster the original series, they updated it slightly, but tried not to do too much. They should follow your lead and do the ship justice; make it great the way you have . . . great job!
Bravo!!!! Wonderful video. JJ's Enterprise was built on Earth (In Iowa ffs, a physical impossibility). Even though Roddenberry's Enterprise's dedication plate says San Fransisco, I've always pictured it being built in space, maybe it was the SF shipyards in orbit. StarTrek Experience in Vegas originally wanted to build a full size Enterprise with all the decks etc. It was going to be a hotel, have restaraunts, gambling and tours. It could have worked (though not fly into space lol) But, Vegas' zoning laws prevented them building something that large.
All those "yards" are actually in orbit over the locations they are named after. San Francisco Fleet Yards, Earth Station McKinley (of course, now it would be E.S. Denali), Utopia Planitia, etc.
I think what must have occurred to J.J. Abrams--and it didn't occur to me--was that if a starship had the power to exceed the speed of light, it had the power to escape a planet's gravity. (Which it did, as we saw in "Into Darkness." But in real life, anything as big as the Enterprise would have to be built in space, as we don't have the power to lift anything of that mass into orbit. Not yet, anyway.
The book "The Making of Star Trek" by Stephen E. Whitfield and Gene Roddenberry (c. 1968, Ballentine Books) page 171 specifically states, "The unit components were built at the Star Fleet Division of what is still called the San Francisco Navy Yards, and the vessel was assembled in space."
This original starship design is the number ONE reason why I liked the 60's TV Star Trek. But leave it to Hollywood to mess with this awesome design when they rebooted Star Trek in those latest big screen movies. There are some thing that are just to hard to improve, this first ship design is one of them. Lastly you did a outstanding job on this recreation of this starship Enterprise build, thanks for sharing!
Job38 Four Personally I find the rebooted enterprise to be quite good looking. Proportions were wonky in the first film but I can look past that. It unfortunate trekkers tear each other apart over it though. Weather people like the reboots or not, Fighting over it goes against the ideas fans have learned over the years.
The exterior of the reboot ship isn't too bad. Maybe a little too much "hot rod." It's the interior that makes me cringe. Everything from the bridge that looks like an Apple commercial, to the horrendous engineering room.
@@Revan2908 OMG---you are so correct about the interior! I was absolutely appalled by that mess of engineering. It looks like the laundry room in the basement of my apartment building. But I don't like the exterior either, something about the engines just appear vulgar to me.
Wow. Absolutely beautiful! I love the addition of the lights. I don’t usually ever like retconning things but in this case they really highlight the beauty of the original TOS Constitution Class Enterprise. Stunning! Thank you for this gift!
The Starship USS Enterprise NCC-1701 under command of Captain Christopher Pike original configuration as seen in The original pilot The Cage had a higher bridge module and the Warp Drive Nacelles had antennas on the fronts and grilles on the back. The Main Deflector Dish was larger. The Starship Interior was also updated.
Masterfully executed video BUT you forgot to credit Jerry Goldsmith for the "Leaving Drydock" musical track he wrote for TMP. The first half of the music track is James Horner but the second half is all Goldsmith.
When I first saw this video one thing always came to my mind and that was just how many extensive refits did the Enterprise go through during her career and under the commands of Captain Robert April who was her first commanding officer when she first came into service when the Constitution class was first built in the 2240's to the missions of Captain Christopher Pike before the 2262-2264 refit before Kirk took command.
Please note: (as it was mentioned before I'm sure) while some of the music you selected was indeed by James Horner from ST2, the section where the ship actually launched was from ST1, music by Jerry Goldsmith.
Don't forget Alexander Courage! It would have been nice to end with the TOS theme, as the ship is leaving spacedock, and beginning its first mission with Captain James T. Kirk!
I have to agree it would have been nice to have the ToS theme. Of course I would have preferred it for the entire video. To me the WoK and TMP themes just did not work with the original Enterprise.
I really enjoyed this treatment. You took a few liberties with lighting and such, but I have to admit I got goosebumps when the ship's systems started to come online. Nothing will ever replace the original Enterprise at the top of my Star Trek ship list, and this was the treatment she always deserved.
Almost 60 years later, this still remains the most iconic starship ever designed for theatre or television.
I agree, and must add that Star Trek is one of the most Iconic TV shows ever created !! Way cool video :)

Great work. Loved the running lights and nacelles power up, with engine rumble.
Terrific work, Robert! This made my day...and the giant 23rd-century Canadarms--what a great touch.
That was so Cool. Dude, you know I built a fully functional Workbee. Now that Trekspace is not any more we need to get together some time.
You are the one from Star Trek Modeler Group on FB? Yes. I saw this one. It was AWESOME!!!
I keep thinking just how good the coffee would be onboard!
Or the Whiskey
Wow. Beautifully done. I love the energizing and low rumble of the warp engines! You have a talent
*You get my **_HAIRY BLUE THUMB of ENCOURAGEMENT!!!_* ⭐😃👍
Masterfully executed video BUT you forgot to credit Jerry Goldsmith for the "Leaving Drydock" musical track he wrote for TMP. The first half of the music track is James Horner but the second half is all Goldsmith.
dito
I was wandering why I always get them muddled up!!...
Great music
I always get those two mixed up.
Love the Canadian space arms.
She's a work of art. Graceful lines and simple elegance.
this brought a tear to this old Trekker's eye. Thanks, Robert!
Please note: (as it was mentioned before I'm sure) while some of the music you selected was indeed by James Horner from ST2, the section where the ship actually launched was from ST1, music by Jerry Goldsmith.
ttjjss _s The first theme used was indeed by James Horner and it transitioned into Jerry Goldsmith ' Leaving Spacedock
Justice for Goldsmith! (Not sarcasm)
I really enjoyed this treatment. You took a few liberties with lighting and such, but I have to admit I got goosebumps when the ship's systems started to come online. Nothing will ever replace the original Enterprise at the top of my Star Trek ship list, and this was the treatment she always deserved.
Loved it. Awesome. Thank you for that very emotional visit to my favourite starship.
