Emmy Award-winning actor A Martinez will sit down with me live in The Locher Room on Thursday, August 12th at 3 p.m. EST / 12 p.m. PST. A is well known to daytime television audiences for his roles on Santa Barbara (Cruz Castillo), General Hospital (Roy DiLucca), One Life to Live (Ray Montez), The Bold and the Beautiful (Dr. Ramon Montgomery), Days of Our Lives (Eduardo Hernandez) and The Bay (Nardos Ramos). In Primetime, Martinez is well known for his roles on L.A. Law, Profiler, Longmire and Queen of the South. His feature films include The Cowboys (1972), Powwow Highway (1989) and Curse of Chucky (2013).

A Martinez is the love of my soap opera teenage existence. Cruz and Eden. There will never be another couple like them for me :)
Santa barbara from 84 till late 88 was golden!!! ...its best years being 85 ..86 ..and 87..
@Marnie Davis That storyline was the high water mark for me. One of the sweetest perks of the business is that occasionally one gets to occupy a front row seat to a transcendently great performance. Marcy's work in that story was one such performance -- and she sustained it for months. It was a privilege to support her in the journey, and to witness it so close. Something I'll never forget.
Dear Mr Martinez , i wanted to take the time to thank you for the wonderful talent , work and effort you put in playing the part of Cruz Castillo . I was very surprised by the fact that neither you or Marcy Walker came back to SANTA BARBARA for the last remaining episodes and especially the soap's very last episode . Were you and Marcy contacted by the people in charge at SANTA BARBARA to come back for the end of the show ? did you turn them down ? just wanting to have a definitive and clear answer on the matter : we all thought we would get a Cruz and Eden reunion when the show ended . We were very surprised it didn't happen .
Hi Mr. Martinez: I loved your work during the Eden rape storyline. In my opinion you deserved to win the Emmy for Best Actor the same year as Marcy did (although I also thought you deserved to win when you actually did win - 1990)! Also, I want to tell you I enjoyed you during your time on LA Law. I never understood why you left half way through the last season. Are you able to share why you left on the show so close to the end of the finale of the series? (Thank you, - Cheryl in CT)

Growing up, I was obsessed with Cruz and Eden and my day and my mood was greatly informed by the status of their relationship. So much chemistry; I don't think I've seen a couple on TV with the same.

I just adore A Martinez, he is such a deep and poetic and thoughtful human being. I am a huge Eden and Cruz fan as I grew up watching Eden and Cruz and thank God for the youtube videos so that I can relive their story anytime I want. Eden and Cruz taught me a lot about selfless and abiding love. I really hate that A and Marcy are not in touch. The connection between those two was very palpable and is the reason their characters created such magic. I read an interview where A said that she was in his soul now so I take comfort in knowing that they are forever connected in spirit. Eden and Cruz forever❤

@@JMarks931 A Capwell family reunion would be great. Unfortunately, CC Capwell would no longer be there. Especially since Jed Allan is no longer with us. But Carrington, Marcy, Robin Wright, Todd McKee, Lane Davies, A and my all-time favorite Judith McConnell would be great.

I love learning these little tidbits that I had never known all these years. This is absolutely wonderful, A. You and Marcy did a fantastic job. Those vows were BEAUTIFUL!
The fact that Cruz and Eden were an interracial couple and as a 10 year old watching, I never sensed anything wrong with it. I don't remember anything negative in the media about it. It just seemed normal and unassuming. It made such a huge impact in my life and friends and family of my age. In retrospect, it was empowering and so ahead of its time. It showed that love had no boundaries. Love was love.🥰 I have family members of different nationalities and I love it. 🥰

What an amazing interview! I could listen to A tell stories all day. Loved him first on Santa Barbara and still catch up with old SB eps to this day thanks to the incredible, international fan base dedicated to making the content available online. A and Marcy created magic together, and we SB fans are forever grateful to them and Jill Phelps. Loved hearing both A and Jill give their perspective on the genesis of this love story that to me still stands unparalleled in daytime. I am not surprised that Marcy and A wrote those wedding vows for Eden and Cruz and that TPTB trusted then to do so. They - and the show especially during the time A and Marcy were there - were and are still that special. Loved also hearing A tell the story of how he and Marcy got back on track on their road trip. Their dedication to the work and the relationship is just part of why they are so beloved as actors and humans. Thanks so much, Alan, for making this interview possible and this forum. You do such fantastic job - prepared and thoughtful in questioning and listening. Such a fantastic interview with the one and only A Martinez. Cruz and Eden were my absolute favorites & no Soap Couple since has come close to capturing the type of onscreen magic A and Marcy created on a daily basis. Alan... please, please, PLEASE do a Santa Barbara reunion if any way possible. As much as Santa Barbara diehards would shed literal tears if Marcy Walker were willing to participate, we all understand and respect the fact that she has retired and has decided to remain out of the public eye. That being said, we would still absolutely LOVE it if you could bring together some of our other Santa Barbara favorites for a reunion. Such a legendary show with so many phenomenally talented actors. It still lives in our hearts till this day. ♥♥♥

Thank you for this great interview with the great A Martinez, only watched " Santa Barbara " sporadically but I do remember Cruz and Eden, another soap " super couple", too bad Marcy Walker wasn't there for this, wherever she is I hope she is ok, liked her on "All My Children " too and A still looks great after all these years, I think he would be great back on " The Bold and Tthe Beautiful"..

Cruz was almost killed off. I wanted to add this. In college, the creators of Santa Barbara, Bridget & Jerry Dobson, visited one of my writing classes at the University of Southern California. They told us that when A Martinez was leaving SB for L.A. Law, headwriter Pam Long intended to kill Cruz off. Bridget claimed she fought against that decision and went over Long's head to the brass at NBC. She wanted the door left open so that A could return later on. Of course, SB was cancelled a short time later, but due to the Dobsons' continued control over the show, the character of Cruz was not killed off

What they shared was precious. And if actors get that what they had, it is like winning the jackpot 😂💓. I only found out this spring that the show is still so popular on CZcams 🎉🎉.

@Krista Barrera Very much so. Have auditioned for Mayans MC three or four times, and never gotten a job. This is the part of the career that folks don't see: the struggle to find work in a world of super intense competition. that said -- I still expect that I will get over with them at some point.
What a class act! One of my best favorites from the moment I saw him and everything he has done.. I was a Santa Barbara fan, but so many other things too... He takes over the scene in anything he is in.. Aura!

Alan, the older man you were talking about is not Lloyd Bochner. He was cast as C.C. Capwell but had to drop out when he had a heart attack. He never appeared in a single episode as a result.

Such a great interview! A is an amazing actor! I didn't watch Santa Barbera when it originally aired, but have been watching Cruz and Edens storyline on You Tube. Such great chemistry!! Their relationship seemed very natural and the mutual respect shines through. I am sad that you couldn't find Marcy to do the interview with A. I know a lot of fans would have loved that.

Any soap writer today should be made to watch the murder of channing capwell...that was novel book worthy...and also the story of cc capwell life support being pulled...god santa barbara was graet....until it wasnt...any long time fan would agree...almost over night the music..the lighting..the sets...everything changed....i wasnt even sad when the show was cancelled as much as i loved it.....they killed bridget and jeromes baby ...altho i kno in end bridget and jerome was writing..they didnt have enuf time to clean up the mess ...
I love they way he talks, the way he forms his words. Especially loved his parts in Centennial and Wind River. I don't really hear that in this interview, maybe it was part of his acting?

Does anyone know why A left LA LAW mid season of year eight? He had been doing such a great job as Daniel Morales on the show. I was disappointed that he left the show before it ended (the season and the series). Does anyone have any insight into this?
