Corned Beef Pasties and My Net Worth

  • Gooday and hope you're well. Yes I did say in my last video that I'd be taking an extended leave of absence, possibly for the remainder of this year. However the simple truth is, I just can't stay away.
This is also due in no small part to a viewer who sent me a recipe for Corned Beef Hash Pasties. Obviously and especially as I'm unable to resist anything made with crispy puff pastry, I just had to make it for you.
This wasn't an easy thing to do though, as it's currently the autumn (fall) here in the UK - which means it's time for my old 'friend' Seasonal Adjusted Disorder (S.A.D.) to rear it's jolly head - and I discuss this briefly, in the video.
Later and with the pasties safely in the oven, I share with you some exciting and totally unexpected news, about my financial net worth . . .

Kevin, thank you for sharing your personal thoughts about how you feel and the way you deal with S.A.D. I think by giving the viewer insight on the differing ways you've attempted to engage with your mental health will perhaps help others who have the same issues. Anyway, thank you for your videos and wish you all the best.

Thanks for sharing Barry's cooking inspiration. (1) brush with beaten egg. Much nicer glaze than milk and you can add the remaining mix to the spare hash (2) Re-live WW2 by making rissoles with the left-over hash. Coat patties in bread crumbs and fry off when hunger calls. Greggs would be proud of you!

Hopefully will see you on the cut at some point, as through you and others inspiration on YT I will be purchasing a narrow boat in the near future.

I'm with you on the hibernating feeling. Always had it, got worse the older I get. I think it's perfectly natural. Goes back deep into our evolution. This time of year, and throughout the winter, food would have been scarce so preserving ones energy would have been the right choice.
There are also the things you can only enjoy this time of year, such as staring into the flames of a fire, not thinking of anything in particular. Snuggling under the duvet when the wind and rain is howling outside, and of course pasties.
Now we know your net worth, would it be a good time to ask if you could lend me a tenner?

    • @CountryHouseGent
      @CountryHouseGent  Před 2 lety +9

Very true Mick. Only recently there's been research into it and it's believed our ancestors, as little as 400 years ago, used to essentially hibernate in the colder months and for the very reasons you give. Sorry but I had to give most of it away for emergency 'eye operations'. :D

Your insights, humor and discussions are very light for the most part. But it’s your show, don’t let others dictate what you write and say in your “book of life” so to speak. Every person, each day, fights the internal battle of what they want to do and what they need to do. You have a very positive take on all.

Kevin! Thank you for sharing, as always. Here in Vermont tis the season to cocoon/hibernate/chill/slow down a bit, (as well as opportunity to continue outdoor adventures) You appear to be in tune with the natural cycle dear hearted one! In my mind, like a dream I remember that in Buddhist teachings they say that in winter the dragon enters the cozy lair to rest. We who can live in harmony with the seasons of the year and of life are so fortunate. You are doing a wonderful job completely inhabiting your precious human birth, if I may say, which I just did. I too have been pondering about when to “ramp back up” during these times and thought about getting back to work now, or in three months. We are so blessed. I vote for taking time until the new year. You have inspired me in the most gentle open hearted way. Tanks, Twinkle lights, good books, chillin and plenty good food and a completely “appropriate” bit of spirits to you my brother in appreciating this precious life, Andrea

Thank you, it is nice to hear from you. You may be feeling the season, but you look and sound well. Comedian Bob Hope was asked one time about his net worth, with inflated value, he responded with "find it and I will split it with you." Maybe that could be your answer. Half of that would buy a lot of fun. You take care, look forward to the next post.

Great to see you back, Kevin! Winter will soon roll into Spring, take a day at a time. You are showing life onboard as it is, not all sunshine and gin-quaffing. At least you haven't succumbed to jigsaws yet.......
Stay upbeat and get plenty of fresh air. All blessings to you.

Lovely to see and hear you again Kevin. Despite the SAD, you are looking very well and rested. So hibernate during the dreary months and burst forth come spring with renewed energy. I’ll look forward to that and perhaps seeing you and Aslan on the canals again. The pasties looked and sounded delicious , so thumbs up to Barry. Bye for now. Love from Connie.

Kevin, it's so good to see you back on the boat making comfort food. I'd be lying if I didn't wish you were here all through the Holidays with a check in or two, with some cooking and just chatting. It makes me feel sane, here in ATL GA USA. Reminds me of a few years ago, when I learned to make your toad in the hole and your bread pudding, which I continue to make! I've missed you cooking on the boat, though I liked your camping trip too. Stop in and hang out with us this winter!

I sympathise with your SAD syndrome experience. I suffer much the same through the
winter months. I just say I'm in bear mode, ie hibernating. I sleep quite easily at any odd time but rarely go through the night without a bathroom visit, unfortunately. Such is life.
    I enjoy your cooking demonstrations.

Hi CHG. Great to see you again - we miss your videos. Throughout the lockdowns we watched all your adventures with Aslan which really helped us through those long days of uncertainty. Please carry on with what you do even though you are feeling a bit low - it might help you to know you are our ‘light box’ that keeps us smiling. Love to hear some more of your music too. Best wishes.

Lovely to see you - fantastic news about your wealth which I must say you hide very well with your frugal approach to life 🤣. The pasties look delicious! When I make corned beef hash I use my mum’s recipe. Slice potatoes, onions and corned beef thinly (difficult for you because you seem to like chunky) then layer in a dish - corned beef, onion, black pepper, tators to the top of a small dish. Pour beef gravy over slowly until the mixture is almost covered but not swimming and shove in the oven for an hour and 1/2 or until the top layer of potatoes is brown. Cheap but delicious - my late husband loved it. You are probably sick of corned beef now though. See you soon xxx
