@@TheDigitalcrack sadly no get the Sony, the PI7 and PI5 are worlds apart in sound quality according to the reviews and you lose the cool bluetooth transmitting case.
PI5 might win in confort though

The B&W's is not a bad start coming out the gate but not for 4 large. Makes you wonder how much it would cost for a more improved version in the area of battery life and call quality. It's the XM4's for me all day every day.

I have both the Pi7 and the XM4s.
I find the sound quality much better on the B&Ws, personally, than the Sony. And agree the Sony are the better set for the average user.
The B&W are a perfect complement, for me, to the Sonys. The B&W with or without EQ are my listening to music to enjoy the music pair when I need to go wireless or when on a plane and want to use the case to keep me wireless.
Sonys get all the other TWS time.

@@gianlucaalessia5538 That’s a hard question. Neither TWS IEM is the most comfortable in the world. I’d give the following advice, if you are deep into sound quality and textured sound matters the Pi7 is better, plus it has the ability of making anything with a 3.5mm jack bluetooth connectible. I’ve used this on three flights this year with the airplane IFE.
The Sony’s are louder, have been ANC and work seamlessly.
I think it’s best to approach it from the perspective of what your use case is

Purchased Sony and bowers, both sound amazing. ANC is far better on Sony giving a unique listening experience. Bowers sound slightly better. Returned the Sonys because after about 30mins my ears would turn red from discomfort. Which I've never had issues with earbuds before. Simply put for the money the Sonys are a better buy in my opinion. The fitment is the only I returned the Sonys over the bowers.

Thing is everyone hears differently down to your very own frequency perception. I tried both and stuck with the pi7 because for comfort, sound and overall quality ANC phone calls a.s.o.
In your testing I found that the Sonys bring a great phone call performance when in quiet but leak a lot more sound when the surroundings get louder and the B&W stay consistent.
Battery life ain't much of a problem imo because I rarely have sessions above 3h. Great review though! Found a new follower.

I have the pi7’s and I love the sound quality and bass. What I don’t like is they hurt my ears after a while of wear, the don’t get loud enough and they slip out of my ear a lot. I liked my senheisers better and for 400$ I expected more from the pi7s

I felt the Sony's had better call quality from the speakers end then the PI7. The ANC with crowd noise went to the PI7's. @El Jefe Reviews, it may be good to add a segment as to what the other person hears on the call.
I like the Sony WF-1000XM4'S better. The Active Noise Cancelation is on the Highest Level.
I own the Momentum 2, WFXM4, MW08 and now the PI7. They are the best sounding TWS to date but with a few issues I experienced. Sound drops, volume drop when using audio transmitter from case and average distance signal.
Hopefully a firmware update can fix the first two issues

Loved the comparison video! I was wondering how those two stacked up against each other. After doing some EQ tweaking over a few days, I finally got the XM4's kicking like I want them to! Still, my Between Status Pros sound better IMHO. The Between Pros's have amazing sound quality at its price point!

Totally agree. The Status between pros sound amazing. The only issue is that they don't have ambient sound. If status added the hear through feature, they would be perfect.

@@ELJefeReviews wanted sony so badly, but when listened them for half an hour - understood that they are not completely suitable for my hears, too heavy i suppose, plus the biggest part of headphones was outside of my ear, plus really liked how b&w sounded, vocal and instrumental music sounds better for me, even the eq didn't help sony to beat them
But sony sounds better for terms of ambient sound, as you get more sound, it is basically like music plays in your head
But the weight
The construction of headphones, that 40% of them are outside of ears made my choice :c
B&W perfectly landed in my ears

I completely agree on the PI7 sound. The default sound is mediocre for my tastes, but with EQ it retrieves the detail that they're fully capable of, but is recessed. I also agree the mids and treble is quite pushed down. I'm fine with tweaking and fiddling with EQ, and I don't find the battery life to be a dealbreaker. I never listen for 4+ hours straight. I just hope they implement touch control customization so I can toggle passthrough mode instead of voice assistant, my only real gripe.
I appreciate you sharing your perspective. EQ definitely helps with the recessed sound. I also hope they add touch control customization. Seems like an easy win for them by rolling this out via update.

I have the Sony’s after having AirPods Pro and the Wf-1000xm3s. I went to the AirPods from the XM3s and was missing the sound quality so when the new Sony’s came out I got them right away. So far I’m loving them! Thanks for the comparison though because the Pi7s were on my hit list if the Sony’s turned out to be no good.

I'm loving the XM4s as well! Just got mine today, and the soundstage, detail retrieval is simply better than the XM3s! I am overly impressed with this pair. Also, is it just me, or do the earbuds sound significantly better when it's connected to laptops?
What about call quality? Is it as bad as most reviews say? Is it much worse than the Airpods Pro?

Definitely. Very impressed you did such an honest warts and all review. No touch volume is absolutely crazy..even tho Apple get away with it! Tbh the B&W sound is still coloured but possibly better overall given the resolution from the ba than the Sony (which still sounds nice tho one can get as good sound for less).

I got the 1000XMV's for about a $100.00. Maybe a little less like $98 or a little higher like a $104.00. So, yeah an amazing steal of a deal for what I got. Blows the Pixel ear buds Pro out of the park. No comparison. Not even close. If you have a choice between those or paying a little more for the Sony's go for the Sony's. For noise cancellation the Sony earbuds have a test on their app to tell you the perfect fit for your each side of your ears to give you the maximum passive return. Further, the app can differentiate over a period of time where you are at and what you prefer for noise cancellation and ambient. On ambient mode you can even choose how much and there it sounds pretty normal with the Sony ear buds. Pretty damn cool. The noise cancellation is really damn good. Little to no white noise also which you get with most of the ear buds on the market. Pairing is a learning curve though. You have to touch both ear buds in your ear to pair them to a device. Yeah, you have to put them on, take a finger on both hands and touch each ear bud at the same time and hold it there for about 5 seconds to activate pairing. That was a learning curve but if you are reading this then you are ahead of the game. Game changer was actually the music 360... No, I haven't gotten the subscription but really it is amazing. I haven't heard anything quite like it and the guy above is talking about airiness and if you haven't listened to the music 360 thing then dude you are missing out.
Sound..
The guy above had to play and probably had to play hard with the EQ to finally get the sound he was looking for. I guarantee the Sony was right there with it without even having to fiddle with it and it comes with EQ in the app. Let's just cut to the chase though. If you are paying over $400.00 for some ear buds it should beat the ever loving crap out of the Sony's and the reviewer had to work at getting to that point just to beat the Sony ear buds out of the box. Take that with a grain of salt. I would be salty if I had to do that with some $400.00 ear buds. Make no mistake. The Sony earbuds have some kick ass sound.
Phone calls.
You heard the above. I would be ticked if I had bought those $400.00 ear buds.
Wearing them. Once you size them right and know how to put in the Sony ear buds they are don't come out unless you are trying to take them out. That takes some getting used to. It's the memory foam earbud tips. Locks them in damn well and good.
I've tried a few different ear buds and nothing has really came close to the Sony ones.
Given that I got them for around a $100.00 well...
I'm pretty happy about that.

I agree with absolutely everything that you said. I actually rock both of these headsets. IMO, I am a Complyfoam fan which I purchase for all my earbuds. Just got my XM4s today. Absolutely loving them. Sound is killer and akin to over head headphones. The default EQ is quite neutral, so you may want to play to shape to taste. All other features work flawlessly and ANC is scary good
Just lemme know and we can swap buds for a week bro. I got the B&W's because of Floss. I too, like Floss, have been rocking the Momentum True Wireless 2's so Ima take his word for it.

Sony WF-1000 XM4's all day, everyday! The sound call Quality was definitely noticeably better/clearer on the Sony WF-1000 XM4's than the PI7's in both the "Semi Quiet" setting, and the "Simulated crowded room" setting🎧.

I don’t base my results off of popular consensus. I do my own extensive testing to find my results. The problem is many people associate high price with quality. They want to believe the $400 they spent was justified when it’s simply not the case.
The PI7 are noticeably better in sound quality. It's not close. Believe what you've read. Sorry, I disagree with most of this review. Well done, nonetheless. More power to you, EL JEFE!

The BW Pi7 are ‘great’ because they have wireless aspect to use when you’re on a flight that other wireless earbuds can’t do but that doesn’t justify their cost because it only lasts up to 4 hours of usage. Until they make another variant and upgrade the wireless usage feature to 6 or 8 hours then we can truly say BW Pi earbuds will be the ‘greatest’ in the market.
Those are all facts. Respect! Been using them for about a week. And I think they sound great, but you're right, the midrange is recessed compared to my MTW2s. Although, I get the feeling that the MTW2s are just playing music while the B&Ws are creating a picture of the music. I think they're a little better sounding than you explain here. IMHO

Good review, however for my needs out of my range and my pick would be Sony. This is my thinking. When a name brand is going to drop a new product that comes up so short against their competitors, say what, their engineers and execs know the score. Never figured out how they expect it to compete when the gaps are so obvious especially at the higher price points. They could have taken another month to tune up their shortcomings and to me this shows a fragrant, disrespectful attitude towards their loyal customers or news ones, at $400.00 right! Greed never lasts. Thanks great review and points.
What one is louder? I got the songs and felt volume was limited.. I love loud music.. also felt miss and highs were muffled.

My thoughts exactly (minus the eq on the pi7, didnt even try that) but even if they fix what they can through firmware updates, the price on them is just way too high. With mediocre anc, transparency mode, case, and downright poor battery life, there isn't much they can do. Imo you're sacrificing way too much at a price point that should be no compromises

Appearances can be deceiving. I have a medical condition that causes light sensitivity. Despite the room appearing “dimly lit”, the studio lights you can’t see are extremely bright and tend to cause me severe headaches. The sunglasses help. So I wear them both indoors and outdoors as well.

My old wireless earbuds just bit the dust, so looked at the reviews, and ordered the XM4's given the very subtle differences in the top brands. I also own the XM4 headphones and with my custom equalizer setting, the sound is absolutely perfect for the music I listen to. Most of my music is downloaded, and I also do lot of YT downloads ... I don't listen to online music sites. I'm hoping I can get close with the earbuds. I don't really care about the phone connectivity, just music!
Glad I only paid $279 new on the B&O's , like you mentioned they really need an EQ to make-em shine , still I preferred these over the XM4's , "sound quality wise" .
I didn't realize how expensive the B&W buds are. If they can add the features you mentioned to their app, they will be a much better value proposition. Until then, I'd stick with Sony. The one and only.

I like the built-in Bluetooth repeater in the Bowers & Wilkins for airplane use. Hope other companies copy this.

Interesting review. For the price being asked both of these should be incredible right out of the box. Sony comes out on top but I would have to be in a real special mood to spend that much on a pair of tws that still needs some tweeking in several areas.
I bought the xm4's and was isn't too impressed. I'm a bass guy and even adjust eq isn't wasn't enough for me. I want bass to sound deep like El Jeffe sounds on the mic. The noise reduction was unreal though. Want to the Bowers but seem to be sold out everywhere. Great video as always
Jabra 85t is another alternative if you want strong bass with top tier features.

Just got the M4s and waiting for PI7s to release. Will get it too because sound wise PI7s are superior plus case unique function and comfortability. The BEST app ever is B&O! that's why I love my E8 3rd Gen.

Just got the pi7s. Imo, they sound pretty bad. Maybe I'm just use to wired headphones (ikko oh10). Pi7s are boomy and kinda muddy sounding (boxy I should say). Not much clarity or soundstage. For 400 dollars I was expecting at least some high quality tight punchy bass. I'll take the midrange muddiness if that was the case. Just too much mid bass. Hard to fix.
Anyway, please let me know your EQ settings on wavelet. You said they can potentially sound better than most with the EQ.

It's the way all channels SHOULD be disclosing but 99% don't. I know my long time viewers get it. But I do it for the 80% of new viewers on every video.

The 5 plus hours for the Sony buds, was that with LDAC and noise canceling? If so, that’s some really good battery life with LDAC! Also, what app did you use for EQ with the PI7?
5+ with LDAC, 9+ with AAC. Included all the battery test results in the full review of the XM4.
I used Wavelet to EQ the PI7.
Thank you. The irony is, my XM4 buds arrive today from Amazon Japan. So I’ll be using my Sony NW-NW1Z in LDAC mode to listen to them. For some strange reason, people in Japan got them later than other places. You’d think that they would come out sooner in their homeland. But hey, I can test lots of audio in Tokyo. Once again, thank you for the feedback!

Great video. The sony sound better according to your assessment, especially that call quality. BOWERS & WILKINS call quality, that digital noise and battery life can be improved probably in their next version.
I truly hope they fix things via F/W update.
Especially that EQ. you were right, for earbuds at price, BOWERS & WILKINS should have delivered a full package

Been a fan of Sony overear headphone and B&W home speakers so thought this would be best fight since I’m in market for another wireless earbuds. After this review, the shopping decision was quickly made. I guess B&W gotta spend more times on their wireless world. Thx for excellent review!!
Very welcome. They do. The PI7 aren't bad but they feel like a 1st gen. device while the XM4 have had years of iterative upgrades to reach this point. The difference in quality of life shows.

I use iphone+apple music.Which one would be a better sound quailty choice ,The Sony WF-1000XM4 with DSEE Extreme or The Bowers & Wilkins PI7 with DAC(charging case).

bought the xm4’s buds and headphones a month ago. I can’t say anything bad about the Xm4 buds apart from the transparency mode doesn’t sound natural.
Noise cancelling on the xm4 buds are comparable to the xm4 headphones imo.
Hey brother, great video as always. Super professional and well executed. I was looking in the comments section to see if anyone has asked you this already but couldn’t find one. But which app do you use to EQ the B&W PI7? I have the PI5, love the design and fit however, I do want to get them to sound more clearer like the XM4. It’s just unfortunate that B&W does not offer any custom EQ option in their app. Master & Dynamic MW08 and their new MW75 have the same issue with no EQ option 🤦🏽♂️
I use the Wavelet app. No need to pay for the Pro version. The free version works perfectly.

Even if they did it's still a wide gap in value. You would get better SQ from the PI7 for sure and for some that would be worth it.

I bought B&W Pl7, have to say they have the best fit I have ever tried. B&W PI7 just like it’s speakers, they need long burn in to get the sound they are designed for. I have never tried these Sony, but I recommend proper burn in B&W before evaluating them. I’m a B&W speaker user for over 30 years, I have certain expectation of their products. PI7 sounds soft and a bit flat to me partially limited by Bluetooth but also means you can wear them for the entire 3 hours and 48 minutes without getting a headache. For punchier sound, Shure 535 will give you a more solid base. I disagree reviewer saying PI7 sound is V shape as B&W is known for the midrange for vocal and PI7 is so.
All products on my channel go through a minimum of 40 hours of burn-in. This isn’t my first day reviewing headphones. I don’t simply pull them from the box a start my review.
Feel free to disagree but I will continue to stand behind my words and my own experience. Other reviews including those with measurements corroborated how boomy the lower frequencies are on the PI7.
I hope that being able to connect through the case to in flight entertainment is going to be a common feature going forward.

So one major thing that the Pi7 has going against it is the price. $400 is obviously a lot of money for earbuds so let’s say hypothetically they were the same price. Both closer to $300 instead. Would the pi7 be worth getting over the wf1000xm4?

Not yet. Unfortunately they never responded to my requests for samples.
I just received the MW08s.. I love the sound on them.. All of the frequencies are clear especially the mids.. I find the volume somewhat on the low end comparatively speaking..
I'm also having some issue's with ANC as I don't hear any noticeable difference when turning it on... I think I received a defective pair...I plan on either getting a refund or doing an exchange..

The Sony tend to have higher volume when used with AAC codec in my testing.

No. Different. Much warmer sound. The SABP still feel more clean, balanced and technical to me.

👏🏽Thanks for this vid I was on the fence with B&W due to the price point and battery life. You hit all points i feel as for the 1000xm4’s. Sadly I returned my xm4 cause they fell sort on volume level and they made my ears hurt after long periods of listening. All though the sound quality on xm4 is great and the app and noise canceling is one of the best I’ve heard.
So far I’m loving the vista 2 & soundpeats H1 ! Keep up the good work! Subscribed!!
