I spoke with this man about doing something similar to a 4runner. He was straight with me. Told me it wouldn't be easy. Guy builds $100,000 cars and had the time to talk with me about a good replacement option. The quality of their product is obviously there. Apparently customer service is just as good.
My husband had a stage 3 restoration done to his 80 Series, last year... I own a 2019 4Runner TRD Off Road, but we both prefer the 80 for our overlanding.. It has solid axle front ant rear, so articulates like a sick giraffe's neck (lol I got that from another channel).. She is our remote touring rig and even has a long range fuel tank.... We live in Northern British Columbia (the last frontier), so we need good solid 4x4 just to get milk at the store lol. Beautiful work, as usual, Jonathan, all except a GM engine in a Toyota...Eeek.. That does look easy to work on though.. However, I drive Toyota's for that Toyota reliability! Edit: I just did some Googling about the engine and it is reviewed as reliable, overall.. Maybe I am just a stubborn Toyot purist lol
I am always amazed by vehicle restorations done by Americans. They spare no expense and produce perfect machines. We love these types of cars in Australia but you will never find this much expense or care go into one. Once they are old and broken they get scrapped, end of story. I guess this kind of work is too expensive here, but I'm glad you guys can do it and honour the fantastic engineers that made some of the best cars in history.
Just finished my 98 Tacoma restoration and picked up my first 80 series collector edition. All California driven & garaged by previous owner, zero rust paints excellent. Your videos inspire me, thanks
love the work you do.... I was in the Peace Corps in Paraguay between 94 and 96. The Landcruiser was the preferred vehicle for the big shot coordinators and diplomats. 4 runners for the lower echelon. Lots of good memories in those. Nothing like this beast though.
You did a good job I am still a big fan of the Toyota straight 6 though when I worked for Lexus it was the only truck that never came in for engine warranty that drivetrain is Bulletproof if you maintain it
Thats good to know! I should have known that you had this covered. I respect the fact that you are always striving to improve all that you do. Keep up the good work sir!!!
Really terrific restoration of the Toyota!! I'm nuts about engineering and longevity. Currently with 3 rd gen Tacoma Double Cab looking to do upgrades. Thankyou.
The ls3 is a much better motor and very sought after in the 80 series community. I have 2 80 series and am swapping to the gm 6.0L v8 and the 4l80 transmission. It makes them faster and lighter, able to tow more and better mpg. It will last as long or almost as long as the straight 6
@@mdf7697 A uz would cost as much as an ls, make less power and probably get worse mpg. I know you're right, but it's always nice to see manufacturer matched swaps, like building your own performance model.
Mr Ward!, I absolutely LOOOOoOvVVvVeeEeEee everything you build and have been following you religiously for long time because I WILL be one of your client one day... I felt the urge to write this comment because #1, I know you read them and take all of your subscribers seriously (except for the haters) and #2, when I order a truck from you in the future, I don't want the ugly/plain/cheap looking exhaust tip on mine and hopefully you have improved this part of your masterpiece. Please weld on a nice size custom looking exhaust tips on all of your trucks, including other model FJs and BRs. Thank you in advance!!!
Great seeing the face to the voice after all these years. Another beautiful cruiser made better then stock. I can't ask how much a stage 3 is because I know I can't afford it. But it would definitely be worth every penny to me. Someday I will make it happen. thanks for doing what you do. 👍
Rockin' work my man! I've been a Vehicle Builder since starting my Apprenticeship in 1994 (mostly building 6x6 Chassis's and custom Bodyworks), and I haven't seen such exquisite work in over 20 years. I absolutely love it, especially the 80 series ya did for Joe Rogan. Awesome rigs! I'm off to check ya website for more.
This was definetly different mr ward. I will say I miss the ride along. Get to here more engine and exhaust notes. All the moving shots if parts working up and down. You get my drift. BUT if safety is a big concern hey man you do what ya gotta do. A shame housing is creeping in on your lovely space! Warm regards. Joe in Ga
Damn, somebody must of loved Land Cruisers/80 series so much they spent the cash on this. 99.999999999% of people on the road wouldn't know what this is and how much work went into it.
I think you hipster Ed the hell out of an icon, golf clap please what the hell do u care as long as your making a buck. Take it to your McMansion and it’s temp controlled garage. Sellout
I'm surprised to see no cup holders. Toyota did not put any in the 80s, except a shot glass holder on the driver side of the console. My biggest complaint of both of my 80s....except when I only want to do one shot at a time....
Crybaby, if you have an old school Toyota truck you stick your beer between your legs and try not to spill any. I had a 1987 and cup holders were nonexistent.
@@samadrid6321 yep. I've had 10 trucks and Cruisers, starting with an '85 pickup. All of them have been offroad. Current Taco has 13 cupholders, so you can carry 1 water, along with your 12pack. I just don't do the newer models.
totally sick. i called you once a long time ago about my 97 after seeing the FJ you did for someone in Lubbock, TX (green and DOPE). obviously never did it, but some day....
I really enjoy the videos you are making! As a long time 80 series owner, I am so happy someone is taking the great car that it is, and modernizing it! two questions: Steering: I am sure you revealed what kind of steering box you use on the 80 in one of the videos, but could you please repeat what brand you use? Body: If you do find rust (liko so many of us living in the salt infested parts of the world do) Do you simly replace all panels, or do you repair. What parts do you use? My dealer is not able to help me with anything. Thank you again for your hard work!
Hola! Muy lindos vídeos! Sigan a si!! Hermoso trabajo! Tengo una hilux srv 4x4 dc 2003, Ojalá pueda ir haciéndole cosas como ustedes! Saludos desde Argentina
James M slotted are ok, but avoid drilled unless racing a car. More prone to crack propagation from the holes, and they just fill with crud and bake hard.

My new absolute dream truck. Nice job, Jonathan / TLC.
Wayne Wiersma prety fucking Agree
Too bad he ruined it with that unreliable gm garbage under the hood.
Levi Rueckert seriously
A 5.7 L Toy V8 would be awesome in this bad boy
Absolutely my favourite iteration of the Land Cruiser - modern but still with a retro feel. This is gorgeously done JW.

Sweet FJ80 this format is amazing, but I'm always looking for the locker switch everytime LOL!

agreed, I used these on gas pipeline work in the north-west of West Australia and would gladly have one as a daily driver and off-road vehicle.
Another beautiful 80series! Absolutely love these rigs! Keep up the amazing work!
LIke the new format.. Especially the drone shots. Inspiration for my stock 1996 TLC. Thanks.
Thank you... You'll be the first person I call when I got the lotto!
I don't believe you lol
Those back seats look waaayyyyy much better and comfy than the bench type original seating! wonderful work!
WOW WOW WOW. Fantastic build!
80 Series has got to be one of the best Toyota ever mad. Those things are worshiped here in Aussie.

Here in the Philippines land cruiser is the most expensive suv. Awesome beast
Jonathan Ward, great work as always. love the brands, love the design!
If your cup o tea, a perfect example to aspire to. Nice work Jonathan
can you imagine THIS being your job? hanging out with these guys and building these dope rides???
Love the new format Jonathan
Another spectacular vehicle... Better than new...
That's the most beautiful truck I've seen in a long time! Thank you for sharing!

Everything you touch turns to masterpiece.
This looks better than half of the so called SUVs out today...y'all did that!
Imagine replacing a Toyota engine with a General Motors one
Should’ve chucked a V6 TDI in it
Should have used the factory 4.2 TDI

Such an amazing truck I can only hope mine will look half this clean one day. Just needs lockers and less smashable exhaust
Absolutely beautiful in every detail
We need this level of restomod company in Australia.
Fantastic unlimited cost build . Thank you.

Love it. Beautiful workmanship.
Great product! As always, I look forward to your videos, TLC and Icon4x4.

We've reached a point in time where we can consider a '96, a restomod...
lolol

you know you're getting old when you laugh when you hear "back in the day" and they're referring to the 90's
You can get classic car insurance for early 2000s minivans now ...
This vehicle is so manly. And I love it.

That's almost a brand new!! great job!
Someone please send him a 3rd gen 4runner, would love to see the tlc treatment there. keep up the good work!
Great truck. Love the roof rack
Initial D but Takumi has to deliver tofu to Africa...

Wow... This is Magnificent! Bravo....
Love what Jonathan does!
I like this style of video.
My dream offroad truck👍
so stealth and so perfect. nice work!
Hi Jonathan,Love the Cruiser
what a clean cruiser
love it! yet another excellent resto job by you guys. I will be calling you sometime in the next couple years to do one for me.
Oh and sweet truck! I would love to hammer the throttle in one someday!
BEAUTIFUL!! Only way the majority of the world could have something so nice is to win the lottery (120k, ouch)
Beautiful! As soon as I win that lotto I'll be ordering one up!!!🤣
digging that watch band

Lovely.
Holy ass! That is a very sexy truck and the LS3 is my favorite! 👍👍
very good job
As usual, great attention to detail. Love the LS3 transplant. It's got power and looks amazing.
So, so much nicer than stock. I've got a '95 FZJ80. Out of curiosity, how much does this kind of rig cost?
6 figures
Not less than 300k ...
Same as my 97 LX only very, very different...well and more swell.
I need that TLC!
Great machine!! Shouldn't the white letters of the goodrich be visible on the exterior of the wheel? Cheers!
Nice truck great job.just dont like the 2 tone black would have preferred an all white truck.top class work.
Very nice tlc good job
So beautiful!
I love my 4.5
excellent truck!
Tastefully done bravo
well done as usual!
Love it, Jonathan... do you all do any 100 series?
cool chevy
Don't knock McMansion owners. They are the ones who can afford Icons!
I prefer seeing you drive the thing.
Sweet truck!
