I agree... I have been ill the last 2 weeks, but self isolated because of watching Dr. Campbell's videos here from the beginning. I tested negative for influenza and was told I just have "some random cold virus." Because of Dr. John, I have not spread this in the community. Whether it's just a cold or COVID-19 does not matter... getting sick with anything right now puts people at risk, and if they have a cold then they are weakened if they catch COVID-19. These videos have no doubt already saved people from possible illness or perhaps even death.

He, and the others who we were exposed to, are not qualified to test for the virus because according to the government, the virus is not locally transmitted. How will the government EVER acknowledge local transmission is occurring when they wont grant citizens realistic qualifications to test??? I have heard first-hand from other nurses in the community that patients are being turned away from the hospitals after having clear symptoms because they have not traveled to China, have not had physical contact with someone who has tested positive, and do not need to be in the ICU. I'm Italian, I live in italy.
Death rate here it's high for two reason:
Nr. 1 : we are not testing so aggressively, only ppl wich have symptoms are now tested.
Often when the dedicated number it's called even if you have symptoms if you didn't had contact with other infected or yellow / red zones they don't do the test.
Nr.2: we have the oldest or one of the oldest population in the world, in fact only people carrying other diseases or illness dies but usually they are in the mid 70's or 80's (no case below 60 yr without underlying issues have been reported yet).
Psychosis it's a thing here, that's for sure but other than that I would say that we have just been unlucky since first cases were probably imported by Germany or China and having a very old population the virus has a lot of chance to spread.
Also a lot of ppl keep thinking that's a flu type disease, they don't understand that if, or to say the least when, ICU beds would be full toll rate will jump up for elderly.

It also might have helped if this hadn't happened:
In 2018, the White House focused on eliminating funding to Obama-era disease security programs. In March of that year, Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer, whose job it was to lead the U.S. response in the event of a pandemic, abruptly left the administration and his global health security team was disbanded.
That same year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was forced to slash its efforts to prevent global disease outbreak by 80% as its funding for the program began to run out.
Also cut was the Complex Crises Fund, a $30 million emergency response pool that was at the secretary of state’s disposal to deploy disease experts and others in the event of a crisis. (The fund was created by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.)
So the whole world is paying for trump's obsession to destroy anything the Obama administration put into place. Sad.

Here in the pacific, in New Zealand we have just had a case of someone with the virus who attended a music concert in Auckland. The health brigade is now trying to get all those who were at this concert in the area this person was seated to report or self isolate. Again its a case of reactive, talk of shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted!
But, seriously we are concerned about our pacific neighbors, the small isolated island nations, Samoa, Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga and more. And some of these islands have travel, air and sea with China, the US and Australia who have been hit. The cruise ships stop there. Samoa was one of these nations that was hit very hard by the the Spanish Flu in 1918.

And it seems, there is a difference between China, South Korea, Singapore and Europe. In Europe the governments seem to accept 60 to 80% of the people will get the virus and containment is only to make infections delay. In Asia maybe the government really try to isolate and contain. They did not give up so fast.

Schools in most of the US are likely to stay open (other than maybe closing for cleaning) because few parents in the US have paid leave so if they stay home with their kids they don’t get paid. So when there is no school parents tend to either leave their kids at home alone (and they go hang out together just like they would at school) or send them to daycare or have one parent watch loads of kids. So the thought is if the kids are going to hang out and interact anyway it may as well be at school.

All this talk about the travel ban from China buying time, why didn't they have thousands of test kits ready? Why didn't they work with labs to find a quick, easy, and inexpensive test? Government bureaucrats at their best!!!

I have never left a comment before but when you said that someone in my country criticized you for commenting that the CDC had dropped the ball in the United States, I had to say something. You have been very honest and respectful of each country when you speak, and that is more than I could say of many of us. I love my country but am appalled at how those in charge are handling this pandemic and failing in their responsibilities. I, for one, would rather have honesty and transparency even if the prognosis is undesirable. I want to sincerely thank you for keeping us informed so diligently (which is considerably more than our government and press are doing here in the good ol’ USA), and hope that the few faultfinders have not darkened your view of the rest of us. Please do not allow the naysayers to cause you to change the way you are educating the rest of us.

I don't wish this on ANYONE. Especially the homeless who should be looked at with kindness and offered the most assistance. The homeless just need homes and help, not to be eliminated. I have no doubt that the homelessness issue with this virus is going to be horrific but whatever happened to treating others the way you wish to be treated?

    • @leonardpersin9694

Angel _ you're pretty clueless then, the homeless people will spread it like wildfire and contaminate everything and everyone..they'll also start dying on the streets instead of seeking medical assistance. Give it about 4 weeks when it hits skid row and San Francisco and then revisit this comment section.

May be, Social Security fund is broke, or rather robbed to pay for something else. But think the bigger picture is...the US is 70% service industry. If people stop going out to eat, stop shopping, stop traveling/vacations, stop sport events, stop doing Starbucks, et al, the entire country will come to standstill and corporate profits will collapse. US is only about money and corrupt politics. People be dammed.
