  • 3News' Mike Polk Jr. went on an odyssey to track down what became of Cedar Point's beloved Demon Drop. A six hour drive later, he found himself in Allentown, Pa.
Popular rides have come and gone over the years at Cedar Point, but have you ever wondered what happens to a roller coaster once it leaves the park?
Well, sometimes they are demolished, but sometimes those rides are simply sent to other amusement parks to live on and delight new crowds of fun-seekers.
Now, I spent a ton of time at Cedar Point growing up, and in the mid-1980s, there was a particular thrill ride that openly dared Northeast Ohio children to rush to The Amazement Park and experience sheer terror firsthand, should we be so brave.
Debuting in 1983, the Demon Drop was a 10-story, free fall, drop tower ride that stood sentry right at the front of the park, welcoming visitors and quickly establishing itself as one of Cedar Point's signature rides. It thrilled riders for over 20 years, during which time Cedar Point kept growing (as it tends to do).

If Coaster Studios sees this, he's guaranteed to comment "It's not a coaster!"

This brings back so many memories. As a kid, this ride scared the daylights out of me. It took a couple trips to the park for me to get brave enough to ride the Drop. Nice to see that it's still alive and kicking.

I worked at Cedar Point in the summer of '87. I must of ridden that ride 50 - 60 times that summer. I lost only one quarter from my knee. It was my favorite ride at that time and still would be if I can ride again!

When I was growing up in the 80's, my buddies and I would go to the park. However, we went a little differently than most. We were given $10 and dropped at the ferry in downtown Sandusky. The rule was, we had to save enough money to get the ferry home. If the parents had to battle the traffic and pick us up at the point, it was game over. The ferry was $2.50 round trip. We would arrive at the ferry dock at CP with $8.75. Lunch could be had for $5. That left $2.50 for the arcade or sweets and $1.25 for the ferry ride home. However, we'd get off the ferry and immediately blow every last cent in the arcade. We'd then spend the day riding Demon Drop with our little hands digging in the crack of the sear while riding to get money to get home. Over and over again! The ball pit at King/Kid Arthur's court was also a great spot to find change (and bio hazards, ha!).

I will never ride it, terrible ride, and unenjoyable, I see it when I was there ten years ago, Possessed is better, Power Tower at Cedar Point, Dominator at Dorney Park, Drop Tower at Kings Dominion, Kings Island, and Carowinds is better than that. Very painful ride.
