  • The Reverend David Stanton discusses the life of Martin Luther King Jr, who was a leading voice in the civil rights movement in the United States. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 and he was murdered four years later.
A statue of Martin Luther King Jr can be found above Westminster Abbey's Great West Door. This statue is one of the Abbey's ten modern martyrs of the 20th-century. The modern martyrs represent Christians who gave up their lives for their beliefs.
This sermon is part of the Noble Army of Martyrs series, which marks the 25th anniversary of statues' installation. The sermons will focus on the lives of those depicted, their ongoing resonance, and legacy for the Church.

He denied Christ's divinity. Should he be proclaimed a Christian martyr in a foreign land if he did not hold that Christ was God?

MLK's speech is a rip off from an old speech given by an old black preacher.
