Took my 3.8 on a 15 mile hike over a 2 day trip out of Seward last weekend. Still waiting for my chest holster to arrive, so I took the opportunity to play around between the full size grip sleeve and standard mag. When hiking I put my holster on my pack hipbelt with the 15rd mag and 11rd in a pocket w/ a NeoMag clip. At camp tried OWB concealed between 4-5:00 w/ the 11rd and 15rd in pocket. I was with some folks not used to being around firearms, so I appreciated the ease of it “disappearing” at camp and when back at the truck.
Yep. I have two of the full size mags for my 3.8, too, similar to your reason. But now that there's a 16 round version of the mag for the 4.5 10mm, Ima gonna have ta get me a couple of thems, too. :D And SA announced today that the have the 4.5 in OD Green. Even though I have the FDE 5.25 and the Black 4.5 first gen 10mm's I may have to pick that one up as well.
Me too bro I want the 3.8 but it doesn’t come in the OD Green so I’m gonna have to choose…but compact and the mag sleeve for the 15rd mag will suffice…I use a xgrip for my g30s and use the g21 mag fits my hand perfectly
@@snoopywl8880 no kidding that’s hardest part of hiking on Smokey mtns doing the long multi night hikes deep in the park, I prefer a 10mm when I got there normally carry micro 9mm and then either smallish 40, or .357sig for black bears. I’ve done the 10mm Glocks a couple times but just too big for G20 and 29 I had gave me fits with some full power ammo.
I've got the 3.8 inch version. It is a keeper for sure. For my full, duty sized 10mm pistols, I went with the Sig X-TEN and the S&W M&P Performance Center. Then, just for kicks, I have the 7 inch S&W 610. Good stuff Chukeley! 👍🏿
Chile, you know your guns. I just bought the 4.5 version and did not realize how big this handgun is. I have Glocks and carried the model 17 and model 19 on duty in Philly. I had no problems with both these weapons. I am a little disappointed with the size of the XD-m 10 MM. But, I haven’t shot it so I can’t wait to shoot it and see if this is the gun for me. 5.25. Go big, or go home. Gunner's Custom Holsters did my IWB kydex holster with room for a rail laser. I added a claw. They do all 3 barrel sizes. Just clarify in the notes if you have an optic.
Great video that answered a lot of questions. I want one with a safety, so this will do fine having the grip and trigger, the glock 20 of course is a no go. The rock island 1911 are great but weight is an issue and reliability. I wish that full size grip was a tad shorter, but like you said it's relative to what it's going to be used for. Thanks much!
I bought the 3.8” with the Hex and was thinking about jumping ship to the P320 or the XDM 4.5” since mine is strictly used for the woods. Now I’m thinking if I stick with the 3.8” and decided to EDC I could just use it. Maybe just get the 15 round mag for the 3.8 when in the woods.
I've heard good things about the 3.8, but with my large hands no compact feels right to me. I have the 4.5" and it feels perfect in the hand. The flared mag well gives me plenty leverage to control the snappy recoil. Also, 15 + 1 rounds of 10mm is really nice wether facing a murderous bear or man. To top it all off, I believe the 4.5" is suitable for concealed carry, although I am choosing a good vertical shoulder holster to do so (actually it will have a 35 degree can't.) I will use it for hunting and for concealed carry in jacket weather.
If you are going to have the tall grip might as well have the long barrel too. The grip is what makes it harder to conceal. Plus you can get the 15rd mags with the sleeve if you want the same as the longer 4.5 grip.
@@pt6998 I'm in a wheelchair so if the barrel is to long the gun will dig into my ribs when I lean forward to push my chair. That's why I'm thinking of this combo but you're right most of the time barrel length doesn't matter when concealing
I currently run the 3.8 Elite in an appendix IWB holster. I keep trying to convince myself that I can carry the 4.5 Elite the same way 🤣. Haven't pulled the trigger on the 4.5 yet. Just keep telling myself that grip will be hard to hide. If it could be concealed that 4.5 would be a beast to conceal. Better velocity and five more rounds then the 3.8.

I got mine just in case I run up on a frog, I mean, Dogman.😂 I don't know why I thought that was funny. I had a to close for comfort run in with a Bigfoot half my 53 year old lifetime ago. If he's real, then who to say a Dogman isn't too? 220 grain 10mm at 1200 fps will deal with him. I'll have my Bull Pup 12 gauge with me to. Ain't no freaks of nature running me off my camping spot. I camp on Gamland AFTER hunting season. Yeah! I sneek it, but that's what's so fun about it. Personally, I just carry a Ruger EC9s when I conceal carry. Well, that's in the winter. In summer, I just tote a NAA 22 Mag in my front pocket. It's better than a sharp stick! I don't go in the woods in the summer. It's hotter than piss in NC! I get my kicks on my Bad Motorscooter during the summer. I have carried my XDM 45 concealed. I didn't mind it to bad. I sure liked looking over at it laying beside of me when I was in my sleeping bag. I freaking love a Springfield! @@ChukesOutdoorAdventures . It's been my EDC since I got it. I carry 3 extra magazines with underwood extreme penatrators and hard cast in my truck just in case I decide to take a hike or go in the woods spare of the moment.
I have a 3.8 and it will not feed the red underwood harped cast ammo. It will pull from magazines but fails to go int battery almost every time. Then you have to beat the brakes off of it to extract the stuck round.
I have only shot a 4.5" 45 acp XD RE size if bear is the issue 4.5" full grip is a min . for city carry I found the SIG M11-A1 3.9" has a better grip than a G19 & you can get extended mags that are very good . Also DA/SA is much better . I would go with G20 with 200 gr XTP or JSPs . I don't own a 10mm SIG that would likely be my 2nt or tied for 1st place for bear . Not sure the best SIG ... it would be DA/SA
Chuke, props brother, love the channel, but when releasing the slide on an empty mag don’t let it fly free, use off hand to slow the slide. Bad for it to use the slide release with no round for it to seat. Keep ‘em coming brother.

Sportsman's in Anchorage had the OD green 4.5" in stock and picked one up today. Love my compact, but the I had to get the 4.5". Especially with the 3 free mags and range bag thing going on right now.
It's hard to imagine being out in the mountains and wilderness and only wanting a compact😂 makes no sense to me you would think you'd want at least a 4.5 or longer. More rounds also. If you're using the 15-round magazine on the 3.8 that's about the same grip height and what's the point then might as well have the original grip.

I haven't bought one because I'm not a big fan of grip safeties and also my 29 locks into my hand a lot better. Could there be that one time when you couldn't for some reason get hold of and depress that grip safety?
For you lefties, these are fully ambidextrous. Something I wish content creators would at least take 2 seconds to address or at least flip the gun over like he did for a hot second.
Got to hold one of the 4.5" at the shop the other day. Not a fan! Doesn't feel nearly as good as the original XDM 10mm in my hand. Not liking the long XDM Elite grips at all. They don't push your hand up into the grip like the old ones do. Like the feel of the SIG better. But, the G40 is still my favorite. Feels best in my hands of all of them.
I say buy neither! The XDM's are so incredibly ugly. I don't know how anyone could carry such an ugly pistol. I wouldn't be caught dead with such an ugly pistol. Buy a Glock 10mm instead. Glock's are so beautiful and proven reliable.
The one that say Grip zones are a little hideous looking but as a Glock owner I would have no proof buying one of these elite pistols. They definitely aren't for everyone..

I got the xd elite 4.5" 10mm auto with a talon grip and suppressor hight sights and holosun 407c x2 green for hunting

Looks like crossbreed holster makes them with laser/light options as well, seems like it’s limited to crimson trace or TLR-6

Sounds like out of spec ammunition or barrel. I got the same gun and ammo and shoots perfect. Underwood might have put out a bad batch.

I’ve shot 200gr hard cast and underwood hot loads out of a 3.8 osp. Sure a bit more snap but with proper grip not a big deal.

I say buy neither! The XDM's are so incredibly ugly. I don't know how anyone could carry such an ugly pistol. I wouldn't be caught dead with such an ugly pistol. Buy a Glock 10mm instead. Glock's are so beautiful and proven reliable.
I love the look , have a g23 , 27 too . beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess

The one that say Grip zones are a little hideous looking but as a Glock owner I would have no proof buying one of these elite pistols. They definitely aren't for everyone..
Dude, there s no denying the reliability of most all glocks but let's not negate the fact that they are extremely hideous..
