The Fraymakers early access came out way too early in my opinion. Sure it's good to let people try it out but there is pretty much nothing do now and especially during the launch

I’d argue the genre isn’t really a competitive market. Since (besides smash) platform fighters are so niche, most people who buy them are probably very into them so are probably interested in getting whatever seems interesting, rather than one over the other

i agree, the point isn't that people will choose rivals 2 over fraymakers - it's about what the differences between the two shows us about fray

I hope after the characther after watcher the devs focus on adding more single player/offline content so we can have more to do while we wait for the final 3 characthers

Honestly I find a big problem with Fraymakers for me which ties into the difficulty with style, is that it's custom content, something that was a big advertised feature, is generally very lacking and/or low quality. I imagine the art style is very intimidating to try to match, but Rivals 1 Workshop benefitted with developers interacting with the modding community

dude freymakers is fun, but rivals 2 is on another league lol , cant even compare both because one is a lot better

idk if Fraymakers will ever blossom like other titles have. SSF2 bloomed because it was free, anyone could play it. Fraymakers is asking for $30 USD for a rather small workshop compared to Rivals of Aether which is asking the same price has years of content available and is still getting more user content. Yeah, the art style hindered it, but the poor online performance is the real reason I have not returned to Fraymakers and don't plan to until I have somebody I know tell me it's as good as other games out there.
For a game that advertises itself to be made for content, its art style is anything but welcoming to work in having worked in it myself. For a game advertised to have rollback netcode, it certainly doesn't look or feel like it.
I hope the community can grow and stick with it, but I sadly thing its time in the sun is long over.

I honesty think the devs at fraymakers should go apply to smack studio.
That engine is very suitable for an Indie fighter.
As it stays now they are going for high budget indy fighter which is a paradox in the first place.

I will always believe in slap city supremacy because only in slap city can you play as a guy named business casual man who can boost his attacks using money and shoot himself as an arrow

At this point, fraymakers is just taking too long to develop. By the time fraymakers is fully finished and polished, rivals 2 will already have many more characters, updates, cosmetics, features, etc. The fraymakers devs should have kept the game on the low before releasing. Especially since 2d animation is a very back braking process that, imo, is not worth the work and budget compared to refining a 3d model animating the model. It still allows for amazing visuals, and has more room for cool aditions and reworks.

I actually bought this game the day it went early access on steam and I remember complaining that it was very hard to find online games especially here in germany and that there wasnt much online stuff to do. Now that I remembered that this game exists (finally), I think the main problem was that they announced everything a bit too early. Everything had to be pushed back a lot (as far as I remember) and early access also came out way too early because once you play like 5 games and get kind of good with every character, theres nothing to do exept "haha funny workshop man".

Well if actual content within the game can't be pumped out fast then they could make something up in the meantime, something to get people engaged with the game on a superficial level at the very least

I just don’t really see the argument of Fraymakers being “too high quality” to keep up with Rival’s more productive output. Both Rivals 1 and 2 have a more or equally consistent and high quality art style. I believe the discrepancy between the player numbers is attributed more to gameplay differences and online functionality. It’s hard to argue in favor for Fraymakers in any of the most important aspects of game design in general

its generally faster to animate in 3d than it is in 2d, so rivals 2 will make their characters faster.
rivals 2 also has a larger dev team than team fray

I honestly think rivals 2 looks way better graphically. The bold outlines and flashy impact effects are super visually appealing. Not saying fraymakers looks bad though by any means.

I agree that Fraymakers has complex animations, but don't really agree that it looks nice. I find the artstyle kind of ugly and unappealing, honestly, and I think it also actively harms the market they're going for. They want it to be an easily moddable game, but with huge sprites with a massive animation workload and a particular style, it's going to be much more difficult for people to make modded content that matches the basegame stylistically. Rivals of Aether's much smaller sprites kind of give it a leg up in that regard, they're more basic so there's more wiggle room for modded characters to look stylistically accurate and making a single frame of animation doesn't take nearly as long, not to mention the years of already existing modded content Rivals 1 has over Fraymakers.
What makes me so disinterested in Fraymakers is how little it has to offer, but not just in terms of how many characters to have. It has little to offer that I can't get elsewhere. I'm still baffled by the choice to include two platform fighter characters in the base roster instead of indie characters who aren't already playable in the genre. If I wanted to play as Orcane or Fishbunjin I'd just play Rivals of Aether or Slap City. If I wanted to play as Welltaro or a myriad of the characters who are stuck just being assists in Fraymakers, there's Rivals mods for that already. There's just nothing appealing about it that I don't already own in my Steam library.

no disrespect, but it would’ve been better if they put the efforts in 3D. The animation is nice but the art style does nothing for me

I don't think content is the problem. I don't play it because the online is a travesty.
