Given Pizza Tower’s release, and how big Peppino’s moveset there is, and how several of the games fighters double as assists, I’m hoping Peppino eventually becomes a full fledged fighter. He’s got lots of potential!
well, the power of these assists is yet to be determined, considering their niche use will be nullified by the fact that there will be potentially infinite characters due to the power of *_GOOD WORKSHOP SUPPORT_*
The power of these assists is yet to be determined, because the game is only in tester build where there are still huge changes to balance happening. We’re not even in public early access yet and you’re talking about how workshop characters will mess with assist balance? Lol
Fellow tester here, Tankman being that low feels weird. He's basically a knowledge check assist where if you know your character's best setup into him, you get to delete a stock or two for free each match. I don't use him much since I prefer using the OTHER instakill assist in this game (Kid main represent), but I know people have already found consistent setups into him and that's terrifying. Likewise, I don't think Kragg or Rhythm Doctor are that good. Kragg tries to do a lot of things, but ends up being really easy to play around, and Rhythm Doctor requires a lot of setup for a frankly mediocre reward - that spiking hitbox just isn't strong enough to justify the work needed to land it offstage. I'd rank them both pretty low myself and hope to see some buffs for them soon. Right now I wouldn't rank CommanderVideo above anyone since projectiles aren't really relevant currently, but if they ever add a character who's basically just projectiles I could see him being a decent counterpick.
Tankman is fair, but with competition like Kid, i still personally don't think he's that good. Admittedly, I'm not sure how much the setups are affected by DI, so if it's truly just "guaranteed lose a stock every time he's up" the 1-2 extra stocks he can steal will be nice. Whether he's worth being triple the cost of a lot of other assists though, i really don't think so. Rhythm Doctor i could definitely see being lower, I value it's versatility (and i probably should have mentioned it's disruption potential, since once you hit it it will always interrupt the opponent again), but I can definitely see it not being that desirable. With how weak recovery can be in this game, i wouldn't count it out personally, though. Maybe with more time i'll change on Kragg, but I value it's versatility quite a bit. For onstage interactions it's certainly not that good, but adding a recovery mixup that also doubles as a niche kill setup i think tends to be worth it. Commander Video I probably should have put lower, initially he actually WAS my worst character, but with how easy it was to keep him up (and how valuable he can be against Orcane's setups), i felt that for the one matchup he's good in he deserved to at least be higher. I probably should have just left him on the fence of the two bottom tiers, though.
For those in the comments, While i still stand by my reasoning, I have heard a decent devil's advocate position for Niko. Niko's attack buff is actually quite significant, meaning that if you can get a setup, a lot of moves will start killing around 60% or so. Also, Niko's damage buff actually applies to their charge, meaning they're the only assist in the game that can charge themself. I still do personally stand by the fact that I think the fact they only really work while you're already winning is a dealbreaker, but don't feel discouraged to try them out if you want!
@@zzuxon That would definitely be interesting, and probably bump it up a few tiers for me. Honestly, I really just think even if there was something basic like an initial hit it would go a long way. Again, my main issue is that even the worst assists like Orcane create new situations that can sway the game in your favor. Anything that would let Niko change the course of the match other than just "you kill earlier" would go a long way.
It's fun to think how these assists could work with Smash Bros characters. For instance, I think Little Mac could benefit greatly from Veridian's assist.
So as a Mac main, I feel like it could help, depending just how far horizontally it takes him. Me personally, I think Kragg's assist could be better option as it restores jump and side b if burned and lets you reposition, with added benefit of being able to actually edgeguard using his smash attacks/tilts. Either way assists would 100% help him and could even bump him up a tier.
Hey, tankman would be SUPER cool if there was some little animation with the tank's nose raising up super fast, knocking grounded enemies into the supposed big shot. That would DEFINITELY put it up to par with these other assists. Can't wait for fray to come out ugh the anticipation is killing me 😭
Im getting flashbacks from Kragg combos where someone scoops up the enemy from the bottom of the stage all the way to the top then kill with down smash
I have a great idea for an assist, a Fall Guy. When summoned, the Fall Guy will run forward, when it makes contact with an opponent the Fall Guy will grab them and hold them in place, allowing for free follow ups. Not sure how expensive it would be, an unblockable grab that holds an opponent in place sounds really good, maybe 120%?
As a Fancy Pants loyalist, I think the value he and the other killpower assists bring is more than you might think. I'm not entirely sure about the whole cast since I haven't really played as anyone but Orcane, but the killpower of most characters doesn't seem terribly impressive. Meanwhile Fancy Pants Man and a few others can take stocks at around 80 if you can set them up properly. It evens out that weakness, at least for some characters.
I'm quite glad that the main character from my favorite game of all time is the best right now but, yeah seems a bit busted rn No seriously please play chicory its an amazing game.
I’ve only just started to pay actual atttention to Fraymakers. It took me a whole 30 seconds to realize Kid is the kid from I Wanna Be The Guy, I Wanna Kill The Guy, that series.
I think that niko could be a good tool for certain combos if people lab them out enough, but i do agree they are a kind of the winners win more kind of assist. maybe they could give them an additional effect such as opponents also rack up percent if they spend time in it, but just percent and not stun like fox lazer. that way niko could also be used as and area denial tool as well to force opponents away from parts of the stage
I believe Fancy Pants is a huge waste of potential honestly. He and his games are known for style, flow, and... fanciness. Yet here he's just a guy that slashes once. Personally, I can see his charging spin attack being a good replacement. He stands still just for a moment to charge, then rolls forward, bouncing on enemies it hits, until he either touches the ground, or falls offstage. Maybe you can even control him by hitting him.
I do find your opinions of some of these entertaining. Fancy Pants: You can just edge guard yourself. Bard: You can edge guard with this and it is a positive. You're building a lot of opinions on a very early build with limited experience and a limited player pool. For example an easy to wiff poison attack that might do 30% is definitely powerful... when no one knows how to read it. It is like Little Mac's KO Punch or Cloud's Finishing Touch.
first off, that's kind of the point? a lot of this is subject to change, but it's interesting to see how things are at this stage. things will get nerfed or changed, and none of this will really reflect the final build. Also, the difference between Bard and Fancy pants is that Fancy pants *exclusively* helps you with edgeguarding. which isn't bad, but that's really all he does, and it's not great on it's own. With bard, it's an assist that basically does everything mediocre, so yes it CAN edgeguard, but it also makes you safer, allows you to play offstage, extends combos, and even guarantees a hit in situations you would otherwise miss. it's not that edgeguarding isn't a positive, it's just that it's a very small one when compared to the assists that play the game for you. also, while it's fair that the Silent you can play around, two things: 1. it's not just 30%, it deals more damage every time you hit the opponent after. you will very frequently get 100+% off of this assist. 2. Finishing touch is frame 12. Little Mac's KO punch is frame 9. Silent is frame 2. there are plenty of situations to make a read and get this move off.
Nuu what did they do to Niko. My favorite kiddo. Maybe Niko needs to give reduced hit speed and speed boost or massive regeneration. Niko isn't canonically someone who would give more damage unless we go to the Molotov side.
