This movie was one of the reasons I never took a drink. I always thought that I could be an alcoholic, but I would never be one if I never took that first drink. Days of Wine and Roses is a powerful movie.

I watched this, two days clean in park view rehab in liverpool, i sobbed right through it! Im now seven yrs clean and sober! A powerful yet underrated movie! Jack and lee are amazing x

I wasn't aware that it was underrated. Lee Remick and Jack Lemmon both received Academy award nominations and the title song won the Oscar for Best Original song. It was also a box-office smash. Perhaps what has happened is that millennials have been bad-mouthing it.

This film was so sad. Jack Lemmon was outstanding. So used to seeing him in comedies, but he shone in this role.
He was a great actor!
He is very versatile in his acting, a fine actor .. I remember seeing him as a drag on Some Like it Hot 😂 he's a hoot..
He was always my favorite actor. He could do it all.
In the mid 80's I walked into AA for the first time in my life and within minutes, this movie came to mind. I only lasted 18 months and it took me 30 years of serious destruction before returning back home!! Currently I am working on six days, five months and eight years of recovery. Thanks to the fellowship and my endless willingness of surrendering. Thank God for our founders Bill W. and Dr. Bob
Everyone knows what a true superstar actor Jack Lemmon was, but Lee Remick is so very underrated...she was superb......
She was excellent in this too. I believe she was nominated for best actress but lost.

Jack Lemmon was one of my mom’s favorite actors; in 1968 she saw him in the LAX terminal and always said how sweet he was when she introduced herself and asked him for his autograph.
When movies were truly truly great because of a great script and great actors. The greater timeless classics.

My stepfather was an air force veteran flying C-97's as a flight engineer. When he retired from the military he became a very successful night club entertainer. He developed an acute drinking habit eventually becoming an alcoholic. I remember him coming home at night and in a drunken rage beating our family up including my mom. This was in Hawaii and I surfed almost every day and sunburned my nose. One time in his drunken fit he punched me in the face tearing the skin off my nose. Life with him in those days was like living in Hell. My mom convinced him to go to AA and he finally gave up drinking. From his veterans benefits he received money to go back to college. My mom who had college credits from her younger days went back to school with him and they both earned their masters degrees. He went on to be a federal counselor to help people in the military who had drinking problems and was extremely successful at that. If it had not been for my mother I am quite sure he would have died from alcoholism. To me he was kind of like a revenant overcoming himself! I have completely forgiven him for those Hellish times in my youth and love him dearly. To everyone who is an alcoholic I say there is hope and believe in yourself. You can do it.

I also we thru that. My dad was a E-9, went thelru hell in our military family in the 1970s and 80s. The isolation of that life, with alcoholism, was hell on earth
Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick were both absolutely amazing in this very poignant and tense film about the dangers of alcoholism and it's effects on relationships and families. They couldn't have cast a better pair of actors for these particular roles.
Everyone in AA should have to watch this movie. It's a perfect representation of being an alcoholic.

@gblueslover2 It's because I know all this and how bad alcohol is that I choose to never make drinking a part of my life. I followed the drinking age rule completely when I was underage and I passed 21 without going out to drink as is the "custom" for young people. Now I am 25 and in my entire life, I have only had a few glasses of Champagne, a sip of whiskey... The latter tastes like piss so I would never want it anyway.
@@acdragonrider I never had a problem with alcohol, always thought it was overrated. I have the occasional beers here and there, I don't like the taste mind you but even then I drink to get a buzz and is typically underwhelming, just gets me slightly more comfortable in social settings but not much.
Movies such as this are and should be a required viewing in AA meetings.
I don't know... as an alcoholic, this movie made me nauseous. Leaving Las Vegas, forget it. It's basically a morbid incentive to drink yourself to death. The only movie I would recommend to inspire sobriety is 1945's The Lost Weekend.
One of the saddest movies ever. I'm lucky enough to not have any addictions. What I drink in a years' time wouldn't get a fly high. Life in itself is tough enough without being an addict to any substance. All people should watch this masterpiece.

Jack Lemmon was a phenomenal actor. Both his performance and Lee Remicks in this movie was outstanding. Such a tragic movie that is still relatable today.
When her father confronts him that it was his fault she became an alcoholic was heartbreaking.. Felt it. Great Movie Great acting by both. R.I.P Jack and Lee.

I remember my uncle getting out of rehab and watching this with my granny and grandad 30 years ago I remember the scene of him and the Glass House fast forward 10 years later and I was in rehab watching the same film been going to Alcoholics Anonymous for over 20 years a day at a time life is good
' A masterful well played out and thought of cinematic. This reel makes you blink twice if you have the time to peep it. Its a flawless tale they whole way through that good humor piece of candy, lee remick, jack lemon make this reel totally real!!!
Remembering my girlfriend, Liz, who died November 2021, cirrhosis of the liver. Fought a 30-plus year battle with the bottle, in and out of rehab. Kid finally didn't make it. She was a beautiful, blonde, kind person who for one reason or another just could not or would not stay sober.

Unlike The Lost Weekend, the ending in this film is pitch perfect. Anyone can fall at anytime.
I disagree on The Lost Weekend. Having to quit drinking just because you have to is the worst possible incentive to a drunk. You need to substitute drinking for a new high, a new adventure. The main character in Lost Weekend was a cultured man and presumably talented, so he found a purpose greater than just his own preservation.
Jack Lemmon was an awesome dramatic actor.
I have only seen this movie one time. I want to watch it again and I know one day I will. This movie falls into a small category of films that are great but also very painful. Elephant man, and Johnny Got His Gun are on that list. This scene here captures so much. I was barely able to watch the 2 minutes, as it made me remember why I keep threatening to watch it again, but have yet to do so.
What a powerful scene and tremendous movie. I've seen this twice and I've cried because !!!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!! he gets clean and she won't and so he leaves her. And it broke my heart that she loved the booze more than a chance to be with him. Proud of him though. This scene is real for anyone who's been through addiction of any variety. NOTHING will change until you have this clear-eyed moment.
What I did not like about the movie was that Joe started her drinking. She didn't want it. Very sad.
@@m.e.d.7997 Yes, he did. That WAS sad. I saw this movie decades ago and didn't remember the beginning. I gleaned from the comments is that he'd started her on it. A superb film and what makes it so is because it is so true to life.
@@GinaGreenlee What made her addiction to alcohol worse was the fact that she was also a chocolate addict. And when Joe had decided to make Kirsten's first drink a chocolate Brandy Alexander, then it was all downhill from there.

Love this Movie - Jack Lemmon
Lee Remick was immensely talented. This was her best movie. Too bad kidney cancer killed her at age 55. She looked and seemed healthy, but then something must have happened in the 1980s.

A brilliantly acted movie ......as someone who likes a drink I can see how easy it would be to get on that slippery slope of alcoholism .
In the past I have stopped drinking for a while because I can see the amount I drink increases. When I drink now I drink for the taste not the affect.
A heavy topic for many people but this movie really does portray the seriousness and sadness of a nasty addiction.

A movie with a strong message. Liquid courage is not good for have real courage. Looking in the mirror and tell yourself what you see? I lost a lot of relatives, friends from this drinking. Still goes on today!

Im so thankful that I have never had a drinking problem , I've had plenty of friends and family who have ,it's sad , I know they don't want to be addicted to alcohol ,I don't think anyone does ,they just made a habit of it and it hooked them .I pray for all who struggle with alcohol ,that God will set you free

Some of my friends got sober and some didn't, decades ago. Some died because of it.
He was determined to get sober and stay sober but the plan to meet daddy and get back on his feet got in the way.
