Charles Dutoit, with a doubt one of the greatest conductors. I had a few opportunities to see him conduct the Philadelphia Orchestra when he was the head conductor. Although, a great performance by the orchestra, Dutoit is working with a smaller orchestra, unlike what Tchaikovsky liked, a full orchestra with as many instruments as there were available. In this rendition of Tchaikovsky's violin concerto, the violin is able to show its virtues. Dutoit does a great job of brining the orchestra to levels of sonority as if it was a full orchestra, but in the end what matters is the quality of the soloist (in this case), and I think Steinbacher as always is absolute strong and renders great concert.

Lovely rendition. Just one detail: I would tell her that the e' in the main theme of the finale (7th tone of the fast melody) should be played more audibly, this tone is too indistinct in her performance. I love this rendition otherwise because of the profound and unpretentious lyricism and beautiful tone of her playing.

@@zarjakriznikunilj Rosemarie is right. I developed the same habit as a radio talk show host. I hated talking into the mic. So I did most of my talking to callers with my eyes closed. My college students hated my habit when it migrated with me to my classes and ditto for face to face conversations. I don't know if it will migrate as her as it did with me. I'm 76 now haven't faced a mic in decades but I haven't yet broken this habits even in my personal exchanges.
