    Dear Dustin, this video has become very relevant for me. The reason for this is that I will be switching from Canon EF to Fuji X. I don't do this lightly, but the reason is beautiful: I am getting married and my wife and me share the hobby of photography. We looked into getting her a Canon 6D II or 5DIV together with the new Tamron 24-70 and 70-200 G2. But the overall weight, size and cost of all this equipment would be substantial. We travel, hike and bike a lot. So, we have decided to switch to Fuji and get two X-T2 with an extensive lens kit. We are very excited about the way Fuji implements the exposure control. But, letting go of the Canon EF mount is not easy. I had my first EF lens in 1988 when I was in High School in Japan. My current set up of 5DIV and 8EF lenses is completely built around your recommendations and I want to thank you for this excellent learning experience. I will miss the EF system most, when I will watch a future review of yours about an amazing new lens... In the field, when shooting, I will not miss the EF system, as I will be sharing this beautiful hobby with my love :) and nothing can beat that! I hope to see more future reviews of lenses for APS-C mirrorless cameras on your channel and maybe even some Fuji X related material. Thank you again and all the best! Dirk

    Hi Dustin, thanks for the effort put into reviewing these lens. Which would you endorse first, the Zeiss 32mm or the Sigma 30mm DCN? thanks

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Před 6 lety

      I own the Sigma 30mm f/1.4, and think it the stronger value of the two lenses. Hard for me to say that, as I'm a Zeiss fan, but that's my story.

  • @auxmike
    @auxmike Před 6 lety +2

    I have the 32mm lens. Excellent but VERY noisy focus motors. Also, it will leave black bars across the photos if you don’t have version v2 firmware installed. This requires mailing the lens back to Zeiss in NY.
    I just did the process as they turned it around in 2 days and the technician even phoned me to tell me it was done and on its way back!

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Před 6 lety +1

      Yes, the focus noise is louder than what I would like.

    I know this is 3 years old, but I am just now churning thru your detailed reviews, did Batis and Loxia first, how would you rank them?

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Před 3 lety +1

      I think the Loxia lenses have the best image quality, the Batis lenses are the most practical, and the Touit line is mostly overpriced and outdated.

    What would u suggest? Sony 35mm f1.8 oss or Zeis Toit 32mm f1.8 ?? I’m using it on a6400 and use for shooting wedding video ..in term of pricing , or maybe the AF itself

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Před rokem

      I would go with the Sony. I don't think the touit adds enough value to justify the higher price.

  • @neaorin

    I know this is an old video, but I was wondering whether the 12mm is worth it for vlogging on the Sony ZV-E10. I'd need an ultra wide because of the massive crop when using that camera's digital stabilization, and this is one of the few options I could find. If the AF motor is that noisy I could maybe work around that with a lav mic, but I need the AF to be reliable. Thanks

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Před 2 lety +1

      To me the Touit series is dated now and overpriced relative to performance. Check out the Samyang AF 12mm F2 (my review here: czcams.com/video/dlNMPyp5mwc/video.html) as a cheaper, more modern alternative.

    The lenses are nice. I've always been a fan of Zeiss. Maybe if I someday get a Fujifilm XT-3 I will entertain getting them. Sorry to digress, but everybody wants Canon to do IBIS. Do you think they will do it or at least bring digital in body stabilization to their DSLRs?

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Před 7 lety

      +Cactus Tweeter They are working that way with some recent bodies, at least for video, so I would say the answer is yes

    Hi there, cheers for the review! I have one major question you didnt answer or at least I must have missed it if you did and that is: Is your 12mm touit lens firmeware updated by Zeiss or not? In my opinion a 1000 Buck lens that isnt weather sealed really can't afford such crappy pulsing AF so I hope this was filmed with firmware version 1 before the update. I also dont see why steadyshot should impact the pulsing of the AF but nevermind. Cheers

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Před 6 lety +1

      Steady shot on a tripod is probably never a good idea, which is what I had inadvertently done. As for the firmware update - it was Zeiss that supplied me the loaner lenses, so I’m presuming firmware updates would have been dealt with.

    hello there. I have the touit 32 1.8 for fuji. I wanna ask you what you think the strenght of this lens is? f stops etc. And should I use the lens hood with this, as it is quite big. thank you very much ;)

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Před 3 lety

      The bokeh is pretty good and the lens is sharp when stopped down. If you are shooting indoors or in flat light, you can avoid using the hood. Definitely use it in bright light situations.

    If anyone doesnt know Touit is latin name for a genera of new world parrots. Someone at Zeiss is a serious birder to have named all the lens lineups after birds.

    I wonder how this line would compare with the native sony OSS primes. My own experience with the native sony e mount lenses has been on the whole good. Both focus and stabilization (full 5 axis) are better as well as DMF. Further there are regular software updates. Also sony has been designing its lenses keeping the calibration of the hybrid features of its cameras. Given the ibis and other manual focus improvements there is a huge range of manual focus lenses as well as the sigma line.

      Dustin Abbott not sure, you as a pro reviewer, probably know this better. maybe overall performance of the machine as camera, handling, controls, AF, noise, etc

    • @testthewest123
      @testthewest123 Před 7 lety

      Doesn't make much sense. The differences between mirrorless and DSLR far outweigh any difference in performance. So you need to know wheter you want an EVF or not. Wheter you want an IBIS or rather a longer batterylife (though I was surprised how long the batteries lasted on a trip, when you just turn the power off, as soon as you don't need the camera). And which color science you like better.

    • @gur262
      @gur262 Před 7 lety

      testthewest123 trying to make ibis about mirrorless? Not. Sony dslr had ibis too. Pentax has. Its great. And the battery life of those was fine

    • @testthewest123
      @testthewest123 Před 7 lety

      That's of course correct. But I was especially looking at the 80D, when I said DSLR. The reason being is the request of a comparison. If you leave Canon / Nikon by the wayside, you can have IBIS in DSLR,

  • @mavfan1
    @mavfan1 Před 7 lety +2

    Hi Dustin, Though it's made for full frame, you should consider testing the Sony 28mm F2 on the a6500. At under $400 US, is small and light enough to be used regularly on the APS-C bodies. In fact, at 155 grams it's lighter than any of the Touit lenses which range from 200g up to 270g
    Also, regarding rubber focusing rings on the Touit potentialy decaying, I have a lot of Konica Hexanon lenes from the early/mid 70s some versions which have rubberized focus rings that are in like-new condition 40+ years on. Can't say the same for my original GI Joe SCUBA suit!!! ;-P.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Před 7 lety

      +mavfan1 I'm not surprised to hear that. I think some people have imagined the potential for them decaying

    • @AgnostosGnostos
      @AgnostosGnostos Před 7 lety

      mavfan1 You are right. Good quality rubber can last very long. Cheap vulcanized latex unavoidably is oxidizing and deteriorates by time. I bet Zeiss is using high quality synthetic elastic materials for its focusing rings. After all Zeiss lenses are never cheap. The Touit series are real Zeiss lenses Made in Germany. The Sony Zeiss lenses are made only by Sony under Zeiss specifications in Japan or Thailand.
