it is LITERALLY impossible for Nintendo at this time and age to make another opening like this. Next Level games gave it a truly unique, goosebump-inducing feel that cannot be replicated. Battle League's animation is a little more comparable to the Gamecube opening and that's a bit of a downgrade (Still super hyped for the game), but what we had back then is just pure gold.

I'd argue the voice from New Super Mario Bros DS was way scarier. I was terrified when I was 5 and even now I think it holds up. It's an even more demonic louder version of Bowser's voice in SM64.
I can't help but think that this game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where there's nothing to do but play and spectate soccer grudge matches on fields surrounded by an electric fence.

I think it lost that tone because the fields now look way more like they are from the mario world, here they were fields that the same next level games created, maybe thats why, because if you just upscale charged to hd, it would look exactly like battle league

Came back here after watching the new trailer. This one is so high energy, we got Peach doing a backflip, DK slamming the ground, Toad doing an overhead, showing off the Stages in a fast paced montage. Then the new one doesn't show any stages, and the most movement we see is Yoshi doing a dribble, and everything looks like slowmotion somehow.
Because what DK and Peach are doing are their super moves that involve the item. Toad is doing his super kick which is basically hold b. After the Fire Cup, you learn to be gritty yet there is possibly something still missing my skill repertoire for this game. I've seen something the A.I. that I've never been able to do yet.
There is something so inspiring about Yoshi hustling at top speed, bombs exploding all around him, looking straight forward. Diddy Kong gets blown off of the freakin arena, Yoshi does. Not. Blink. He is on a mission.

Mario has that bugs bunny vibe more than the modern mickey one. Though this also the reason why toy companies who make toys in a bit more darker style can very well pull off the same thing with license toys coming from Nintendo properties. You'd expect it all be for children but in the end it's beyond that for which is why toy companies can put Nintendo characters in commercials with characters who are from franchises with dark themes being more exposed to sight rather than simply refencing it. For example the Hot Wheels AI commercial look at the atmosphere of the cgi scenes then Mario and Yoshi jump in.

Well it's not the first time. Luigi's mansion was meant to be a darker game. Mario was still seen as very childish and with the gaming public getting older at the time they wanted to make Mario broader. Even though they say the games are good some at Nintendo have said that Super Mario world and it's sequel Yoshi's island might have been mistakes as they are incredibly childlike.

Very True, the Battle League intro has a clean and floaty, almost toy-like feel to it. It lacks the the energy that Charged has, I can compare the art-style more to the Mario + Rabbids games than I can to the previous Mario Striker games.
Am I the only one who thinks this takes place after the apocalypse? The environment is fucked up, and the once happy-go-lucky characters of the Mario universe have hardened into cold, heartless people who don't seem to care about anybody but themselves. Think about it: the only reason the Mario characters need these godlike abilities is to survive the new, harsh world.

I actually think this cutscene is better than the new one. Also maybe make it a hockey game since that was what Strikers actually was meant to be. However late in development they decided to switch the sport since soccer has more appeal to people. However most of the mechanics didn't change.

It has been 15 years since the series came back. They have to appeal to the new audiance that have not played the series before. Plus I think this intense atmosphere from charged may be a bit too much for the younger kids

Dang, man. You can see the determination, adrenaline, intensity, and sheer willpower of the game or characters! Nothing matters (siblings, friendship, or girlfriend/boyfriend) except the intense emotions of pure winning!
More than willing to give Battle League a chance because the gameplay looks really fun and I can still see the love put i to it by the developers but god there is just nothing like Charged. What a fuckin experience this game was.

It’s mid, there’s effort but ultimately it fell flat because whoever’s in charge decided to drip-feed content rather than put it all in the game at launch like it should’ve been. Yet even now after 3 DLC releases the game still feels empty and void of content that it’s predecessors had. Gameplay is fun but it’s also very abusable and once you figure out what works it’s too easy to make the goalie look absolutely foolish. Out of 10 I would say 6.5, had unlimited potential but just didn’t hit what it needed it to be a worthy successor of Charged.

Man, this game's straight up hardcore! The music, the atmosphere, the "tough" feeling of it, not the soft, light-hearted, child-friendly theme of your typical Mario game. Looking back on it now, gives me chills! Even put a little more hair on my chest.

I actually think this cutscene is better than the new one.
Also maybe make it a hockey game since that was what Strikers actually was meant to be. However late in development they decided to switch the sport since soccer has more appeal to people. However most of the mechanics didn't change.

It has been 15 years since the series came back. They have to appeal to the new audiance that have not played the series before. Plus I think this intense atmosphere from charged may be a bit too much for the younger kids

Looking at this intro makes me realise how much of the mario strikers flavour is gone from battle league.
Tbh I see battle leauge as more tame and comic book like but the armor is like from charged
The soccer ball is a mashup of charged and og but the mega strike is more like the og
Battle leauge is more hardcore with the mechanics it has but it really confuses itself as it's casual but trying to be competitive but I like game but it's different but good

More than willing to give Battle League a chance because the gameplay looks really fun and I can still see the love put i to it by the developers but god there is just nothing like Charged. What a fuckin experience this game was.

It’s mid, there’s effort but ultimately it fell flat because whoever’s in charge decided to drip-feed content rather than put it all in the game at launch like it should’ve been. Yet even now after 3 DLC releases the game still feels empty and void of content that it’s predecessors had. Gameplay is fun but it’s also very abusable and once you figure out what works it’s too easy to make the goalie look absolutely foolish. Out of 10 I would say 6.5, had unlimited potential but just didn’t hit what it needed it to be a worthy successor of Charged.
This game is so badass. Mario Strikers 3 for NX please!!! (With 1000% more badassness!)

One of the greatest intro for a game ever. I love this game so much man, together with Mario Kart 8 my favorite Mario sports game after the godly 3D Mario platformers. Shame we didn't get any Mario Football for the WiiU so hopefully we'll get one for the NX.
