Brava ! Leontyne Price remains the "best" Vissi d'Arte for ever ! Maria Callas was certainly the most dramatic Tosca on stage (and also "for ever") , but (to my opinion) never "one" soprano has been singing this aria as Miss Price did !
It is absolutely the whole perfection ! Even on her very fisrt years Callas never sang this aria so beautifully as Price did !

You can literally see her technique.
Relaxed open throat always, uses her lips to shape vowels, she takes deep breaths and then releases in a very controlled way. Its like shes an instrument

I just bought the Decca Legends 1962 Tosca with Price - Di Stefano -Taddei and Herbert von Karajan and the Wiener Philharmoniker--wonderful, just wonderful. How can we have access to such good and great music and not have our small kids and young people better engaged in it, too?

The Republicans took away funds so black commnities especially wouldn't have introductions to classes, instruments and ensemble instruction . America has little culture .I can't even find the old classical music radio stations. Now with youtube everything even nelected black and female composers can be heard by everyone ! Right rises everyday regardles s of tRump,McCarthy and et. al. !

I agree. That's actually my all time favourite recording of Vissi d'arte. Although it sounds like it was recorded separately to the rest of the opera.

This is very beautiful. But I prefer her 1960 studio recording with Karajan. She is magnificent in that recording.
I own that cd and highly recommend it.
She soars only the Berlin P. orchestra. I love that the engineers from that set makes the acoustics sound LIVE by not over miking the cast.
Price is one of the all time great divas that makes the last 60 years Opera's greatest Golden Age.

Obviously a gorgeous voice ... but she is only making great sounds there (with some unnecessary scooping by the way) but what about drama and musicianship ?... I adore Miss Price but this is definitely not her best testimony
