There is also a special rapid train to Otsuki on the Chuo line. From there you get on the Fujikyuko line to Kawaguchiko. It's a bit slower than the Fuji Excursion but only costs 2500 Yen from Shinjuku.

It seems the pass is 2600 Yen, so it might be convenient if you stay a night and get around for two days. I found it a little difficult to do a lot in a day as the bus doesn't come frequently. Just for your information, Shimoyoshida to Fujisan station was 230 Yen, bus to Oshino Hakkai 400 Yen, bus to Fujikyu Highland 510 Yen, and train to Kawaguchiko 180 Yen, so it cost total 1320 Yen for the local transportation in addition to the round trip from Tokyo. Hello Kenchan! As I'm Thai I think that the pagoda and most places around Kawaguchiko are very famous spots for Thai travelers to see Mt. Fuji. Almost everyone I know that have traveled to Japan visited these spots and they all really love it, some even go back to visit Mt.Fuji and lake Kawaguchi several times! I guess these spots are like must-go places for Thai people other than Tokyo, even so I'm still quite surprised to see that they have Thai language there as well lol.
I'm also planning my trip to Japan right now and probably gonna visit all these places in the video as well, thanks to you Kenchan! Hello, you can see Mt.Fuji either from ropeway or one side of Lake Ashinoko. If you like to see the full shape of Fuji, getting out of the Hakone Caldera and go closer would be good. You might be able to go Kawaguchiko in the morning, take bus to Gotemba, change to bus to Hakone and get off at Togendai. Take ropeway and mountain railways back to Tokyo, is possible. Not much time in each place, but you can enjoy various views. Not recommended with suitcase though.

Yes, you can take their free shuttle bus to Gotemba station which leaves every 15 minutes from near the Gap store. From Gotemba station, you can take JR Gotemba line to Matsuda and change to Odakyu line (non-JR), or go to the last stop called Kozu, and change to JR Tokaido Line. They have a direct limited express train by Odakyu (not JR) to Shinjuku everyday at 12:48, 17:23, but those are the only direct train to Tokyo in the afternoon. Thank you for watching. :)

I am coming in May 02,
planning to stay in Kawaguchi for a day, as I think a day trip from Tokyo will not give enough time
Starting my day at Chureito pagoda, go to lake Kawaghuchi and Yamanaka to take some beautiful photos.
I will buy JR green pass, and use Suica card to pay for local train/bus.
Your video is very nice, will plenty of information. Thanks
    Cheers from Saskatoon, Canada

I’m hoping to do a day trip from Tokyo with my parents to see my Fuji in early April , but I’m worried that we’ll miss a chance to get glimpse of the mountain. I’ve read that morning is the best time to get a chance to see her, so would you recommend we stay a night before?

Also the limited express that stops at Otsuki doesn't go all the way to Shiojiri, so you need to change to another limited express at Kofu. But that is possible. Hi Keith san, yes you can bring your luggages on highway bus. They keep your bags in trunk when you get on the bus.
