  • We decided to get an older jet ski. I've never worked on one before. To my surprise, no shops want to work on them. I decided to dig in and figure it out. In this video I show you how to adjust the carb to get older jet skis working again. Most of the time, the carbs need working on. This Polaris SLTH was in really good condition, it just shut off over 25 mph. If you have any tips, drop them in the comment box.

    I’m having a similar issue on my Seadoo ski, I’m going to try adjusting the highs & lows on the carb & then testing it out again, definitely has been a hassle but you get what you paid for, definitely expect to work on your skis if they’re old

    I have been working on two-stroke jet skis for 20 years if you know what you're doing they are just as reliable and a lot cheaper to repair it than 4-stroke jet skis and I will tell you you better do a fuel pressure check on that ski or you will fry the motor over just a gas cap seal

      Hi, just checking what the easy way to do a fuel pressure check is?

    • @shannonwilliams601
      @shannonwilliams601 Před 2 lety +1

      @@SykOps what you want to do is take the main fuel line off that goes to the carburetors where the fuel comes in then take a air compressor with a hose that has just a air nozzle where you can push it and it produces air out the end then put it against the hose and force air back into the gas tank until you see the tank slightly start to balloon up then hold your thumb over the fuel line so air cannot Escape or fuel cannot come back and make sure your fuel on and off valve is on then in a quiet place listen for any air seeping from the gas cap from a air tank valve from the threads that the gas cap screws onto that bolt to the h u l l all of those areas and make sure that you're holding air pressure because if you're not it will run lean and blow your engine also check the two straws that go down into the gas tank you will have a on and Reserve to make sure there are no holes in those as well

    • @SykOps
      @SykOps Před 2 lety +1

      @@shannonwilliams601 thanks for the quick response I’ll test that today! I did a top
      End rebuild and carb rebuild. I believe running lean caused it to melt the piston in the first place so I want to make sure that doesn’t happen again. It is having a bit of a rough idle right now and I can’t seem to adjust it out on the carb so it very well could have a leak around the gas tank. Anything else I should do to make sure it doesn’t run lean? Thanks!

    I will tell you on that motor it's called the red domestic motor the wiring that they used from the factory for the wiring harness the gauge is too small and it heats up from the heat from the stator and it fries the wiring harness and the CDI and Polaris was doing a warranty when those first came out then they stopped doing it and there was a lot of them that never got done so then they started selling the kits on Ebay you can find them for a while for $500 it came with the stator the wiring harness and a new CDI so it's not a matter of if it's a matter of when and what will happen is you will start to cut out once the ski warms up and that's because the stator is heating up and cutting electrical to the computer and people think it's the carburetors every time if you want to know if yours has the upgrade you can either tell by looking at the gauge of The Wire that goes into the front of the motor or you can turn the black CDI box over that's inside the aluminum box that sits on top of the battery and it will have a number written with a yellow or white marker pin

      I believe I have this engine in my 1996 Polaris Hurricane 700. It starts right up and seems to run just fine, but it seems like its missing the top 1,000 RPM. Once it gets up to the top it starts to pop and sputter a bit. It's slower than my friends jet skis, which have the same or smaller engines. I think it would keep up with theirs just fine if it revved up all the way. I was wondering if these symptoms could be caused by the problem you described above.

    • @shannonwilliams601
      @shannonwilliams601 Před 2 lety

      @@mushroompotato6547 yes that's typical of the red motor because of the electronics in it you have to find a upgrade kit which has the CDI the stator and the entire wiring harness
