If you have some lenses which you don`t use as often and you want to keep them safe and sound it will be an issue if you don`t know what to do.But in this video I will share a few tips about this topic. First of all you have to use silica gel . It is not really expensive and it is really good for this issue.
    So let`s see in this short video how to avoid fungus and haze in your lenses.

    Excellent topic. Superb presentation. I learnt about Silica Gel from my dad. He even stored leather cases in an air-tight plastic bag with silica gel in porous cloth or paper mini-bags.

    Hi! Thanks for the video, I also live in Ireland, where do you recommend to get lenses cleaned/fungus removed? I have an issue with a fujinon lens that I didn't notice until I went to sell it

    What if I already live in a pretty dry area of the world? I just leave the lens on the camera because my camera doesn’t have a sensor cap thing to not keep it exposed same with my lens on the back element but I do have a normal lens cap on the front element. It’s also a manual lens with a slr. Is that ok?

    I'm fortunate that I have access to silica gel bags at my place of work which I use for many applications. My lenses are stored in flight cases and high impact pelican type cases, each has a couple of small bags of silica gel under the pluck foam. My other use...stick one in each shoe/sneaker after wearing them to absorb sweat lol It rains quite a lot here in the UK too but I wouldn't describe our weather as humid. I've not had any issues regards fungus or haze and I have some pretty old lenses in my collection. Co incidentally one of my silica gel bags burst in my small camera bag today. The camera and lenses are fine however, those tiny gel balls get everywhere though! 😊

      dunnymonster yeah once it happened with me as well that I didn't close tight enough the lead and the little Silica gel balls got in every part of my bag. Pretty annoying 😂😂😂

    I store in airtight transparent boxes with cat litter in original bag open and in socks (but this produce dust so maybe it's not a good idea.
    The infected lenses ,I keep separate with cat litter in socks and a jam glass pot with copper sulfate open.

    Many thanks for this Atilla, I am used to storing my lenses in a bucket in the back garden and I always had a problem with fungus, rust and bird crap. Now I know better! I will cover them in silicone.
    PS You will never get a job for the Irish Tourist Office.

    I use air tight transparent box and Pelican case with about 150-175 gram orange silica bags.In the box lenses are not covered with the lens cap.Also using from time to time UV-C lamp for 10 minutes to kill anything organic in and on the glass.

    • @BlueSkyPhotography

    Is it okay to keep lens in direct sunlight?

  • @bitmastermac
    @bitmastermac Před 6 lety

    I’m in midwest US without ac. I worry about my full load of Zeiss lenses and have been considering a dehydrating cabinet.

    • @BlueSkyPhotography
      @BlueSkyPhotography  Před 6 lety +1

      Captain Zouave that's a good idea as well but it is more expensive than this one. My friend had the same and he stopped using it and now he just uses Silica gel. But definitely using a dehidrating cabinet is very effective.

    • @bitmastermac
      @bitmastermac Před 6 lety

      Blue Sky Photography Why did he stop using it? I use silica packs for my firearms stored in zipped Mylar bags. A photo friend uses silica cans (sold for gun safes) in a 2-door cabinet of lenses, but I think I’d rather set it and forget it.
      Ever get that Zeiss 25?

    • @BlueSkyPhotography
      @BlueSkyPhotography  Před 6 lety +1

      Captain Zouave he stopped using it because the electricity cost. It uses a lot of electricity. Silica gel is cheaper at long run and it's effective enough.
      I didn't get the 25mm Zeiss yet because I'm hesitating between the FujiFilm 16mm f1.4 which is an excellent lens, and the Zeiss 25mm f2. I don't have money to buy both so I have to decide which camera am I using most.

    • @bitmastermac
      @bitmastermac Před 6 lety +1

      Blue Sky Photography yeah, the electric cost is what scares me also, and there isn’t an outlet where I’d want to put the box. I never thought it would be so costly as to stop using it. Damn. (Thanks for answering!)
      I’ve got both lenses. The Fuji 16 focuses closer and tons of fun on the small body, but unscientifically, the Zeiss is a better lens (maybe only because of the larger 5d4 sensor). You can’t go wrong with either, and you’re right- it depends which body you use more. I bet you wish we were neighbors so you’d have access to my kit,😀

    • @BlueSkyPhotography
      @BlueSkyPhotography  Před 6 lety

      Captain Zouave ohhh boy. If you would live in Ireland, I would travel to you just to get the possibility of trying both lenses 😂😂😂. Well I will have to decide at the end of the day.
      Is it true that the Fuji 16mm is sharper???

      My question is this. I have a lens with fungus in it. I also have a new camera without fungus. If I put my lens with the fungus on to the camera body......can the camera get infected with fungus as well ? Or can the. Camera get fungus from the lens while in the box I keep them in.
      Thanks.

    • @BlueSkyPhotography
      @BlueSkyPhotography  Před 5 lety

      @@africo9104 theoretically it can. But I am not really sure in reality. I never used any lens with fungus. I gave it to the service center to clean it out.

    • @africo9104
      @africo9104 Před 5 lety

      Ok, you say none of your lenses have fungus or if, they are sent to a service centre. But if you look at lens fungus on CZcams, many of the experts say that sometimes even the service centres leave a fungus spore behind that can slowly grow again. So my idea for asking is that maybe I should leave that particular lens in another place so it doesn’t contaminate the other lenses or camera body.
      Mabey some of your viewers can reply to this question.
