- On this week's episode of Onboard Lifestyle, we forgo our sail to Santa Cruz Island and hit up Ventura to install our new Raymarine Quantum Q24C Radar. After sailing over a thousand nautical miles in what seems to be endless fog, we get this vital piece of equipment on basik. Just in time for fog to follow us. Come back next week to see where we head off to. See you then!

Safe journeys with new Quantum
I'm sure that Quantum will give you solace.
Getting new toys is ALWAYS fun.
Both of us are scared to death of heights and the swaying back and forth.....we have to get over that if we are going to buy a cat! Great job!
Lol, thanks guys! After a couple times up the mast, it's not so bad and you get used to it. 😊
I love it he has been lusting over this for a while LOL
Time to celebrate ... Compass is back on all fours... Emma is happy and hungry I'm sure ... And teal seems about as happy as when the new mast arrived.... And lynh is just as beautiful as ever.... Glad you have a radar that works .... Another neat addition for your beautiful cat.
What a great family thanks for sharing
Our pleasure! Thanks for following!
Anchor cleaning ala Rick Moore. Rick leaves his muddy anchor under water about 3 feet while the boat is under way then pulls it up once clean. From what I saw it worked but being a known sailor I don't know if that is a risky move. :-) Channel Islands here we come!!!
Compass, buddy, I am glad you are doing better. I know what that’s like. I’ve been fighting an infection for four weeks! Fever and chills. But Covid test is negative! So hang in there, I just wish we could cuddle up and get rid of these bugs. Thinking good thoughts. Chuck
Teal does the neatest wiring I've ever seen on a boat.
Compass little thing!! I'm glad he is ok..
Hey Guys I just joined the show and love it keep up the great work. Emma U are 1 of a kind I think lol I've never known a teen to love school 🤣👍
Compass is all head😂
Great video guys, stay safe.
Ive been following you guys for awhile. And i appreciate all of you 💙😎👍
Glad to see Compass feeling better soon he will barking and photo bombing your videos again lol !
Your videos never disappoint
*I was just there last month in the Ventura Marine area for a week of RR great local fresh food. Golfed at Olivas Golf it's awesome just down the street. Pelicans diving for schooling fish daily darn if I would have known you guys were there dinner at a restaurant for sure at the least!!!*
Congratulations on the new radar!
Linh, there a number of electric winch handles on the net at various price points which might ease the strain. Also you could just put Teal on diet.
You can always make a bolt shorter. May bee a good plan to keep a few of each diameter bolt in a very long size. You can always cut a new thread if you cut that off
There are many 1/2 inch right angle drills that would work. The girls could raise Teal without breaking a sweat. Harken makes the attachment that fits on the chuck of the drill. Easy Peasy! Good luck
Beautiful family .
Great job everyone! Especially muscles Emma and Linh! So glad Compass is back to his frisky self.
Watching Teal at work is such a pleasure. Teal is the platinum standard of boat mods!
Also, as always, so lovely to see your wonderful family working together on common goals, supporting each other as a family, every day.
Awesome Radar installation and configuration, and glad Compass is feeling better. Onboard Life is Good.
I’m glad the No#1 son is feeling better
Us too! He gave us a scare. This is the first time he's been sick.
Awesome job guys another enjoyable video.
Thanks for watching!
Life is better when you can see though the shadows. Maybe the fog was a reminder that it's never that far away. Good luck with the final hookup guys.be careful and stay the course.
I love the Quantum radar unit. Great job getting it installed and operational.
Excellent, great job, yes, add a electric winch to the project wish list……
Good job. Teal, for someone who has just about every tool imaginable (for a boat), I'm surprised you are making Linh and Emma hand-crank you up the mast. Tsk, tsk. My wife can get me up the mast without breaking a sweat, but she has a little help. We have a Milwaukee Angle drill with an adaptor for the winch spline. 28v, rechargeable and works like a charm. Give your girls a break!
Gee thanks, now I'm starving again!!
As always great video. Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant job as usual Teal. Did I spot a crafty shortcut? missing a mounting bolt out of the ray dome. Probably not needed anyway. I think you and the girls are a brilliant team. Loved the cable idea to get over feeding in a new one. That heat shrink stuff is great, I use it a lot for repairs. You can even get it with a glue lining for really waterproof repairs.
Hey....maybe best ever video production..."Someone", is making nice changes..TY
YAY! Compass
Good video, as always. Like.
good job
Nice job on the radar install guys, team effort. Glad Compass is doing better too. Fair winds and following seas Basik.
Outstanding. 😉
So glad to see Compass doing better. Another one off the list and as always a job well done. I really look forward to seeing your videos. Keep up the good work.
Finally you can feel so much more safe & secure when the weather closes in! As for your trip out to the Channel Islands, what will you be planning on doing? Can you actually go ashore on any of them?
That's nice how they come up with a Wi-Fi radar and good for a little distance out away from the shore I don't know about far out in the ocean but that would be nice to have two different setups nice video I enjoyed watching that I learned a little bit of something off of that video enjoy your sailing trips everybody be safe and God bless watching from Roseville California USA Ray Garrett
Basik just gets better everyday. Those other cats can't compare! My first sail ever was from Santa Barbara to the Channel Islands. Great memories. Have fun!
Nicely done.
You guys never fail to impress me with your energy, enthusiasm, and problem solving skills. It's so rewarding to be along for this journey. Thank you team basik!!!! You make Fridays brighter:)
Kind of ironic that the hardest part of installing a "wireless" radome was connecting up the wires. Thanks for the great videos!
Ty too much lmao. Much needed these days
Nice work and a fantastic new addition, so cool to be able to see all that! I have to say that I was looking in the background at Compass and watched him playing with the tennis ball, thank god he’s feeling better! We lived in Ventura when I was a kid, I have the best memories, mom would drop us off at the pier with a small lunch and $2.00, saw a lot of stuff on the pier and played on the beach all day! Thanks so much for your wonderful episode!
It has to be driving him crazy to use old wire. Seeing Emma straightening her stacks of books, think maybe she's kin to her Dad much.
Fabulous ‼️
Teal: Well, that wasn't too bad.
Linh and Emma: Says the guy who just sits there while we hoisted him up and down four times today.
Hey now...I climbed a little!
@@tealgoben1781 That's true. With all the coast hugging you all have been doing are the engines still running cool. I wonder if you are getting more crud in your heat exchangers. Would you be putting a " Blaster Purging " down as a semi annual maintenance drill when running close to the shore?
Ha Ha , somewhere around 12:35 I noticed "pointing the blame finger". Hummmm! I gave it some consideration and I have to take sides with Teal. Here's why, Linh, you know that Teal needs direct supervision. You brought this up in the past, remember? See, wasn't this easy? Teal, you need to give Linh a big hug and kiss because she's such a great wife and life is better. God Bless
great work!
just watched this one would have been fun to go down to the harbor and say hi. Best sailboat fab and sailing channel I watch!
Bravo ..👏🏻👏🏻
Teal has mad skills!
SO happy to see Compass coming around!
Us too! He gave us quite a scare.
Interesting video
Awesome installation as usual. Cannot wait to see it in action. Good to see Compass back in action as well.
Can't sail without a Compass! Glad he's on the mend! Can you give us a comparison of the performance of the old Furuno with the new Raytheon? Nice installation! Can you do that in 40º in a driving rain and 30kts of wind? Neither can I! I am so looking forward to your time in the Gulf of California.
I’m installing this same unit today in Tasmania, australia 🇦🇺
Quantum leap saw quantum leap conquered!! Nice job OL crew!! Safe sailing!! Glad little puppers is doing better!! :) Electric winch for hosting up T!! hehe yeah i know how ya feel T my wife would have a tough time hosting me up too.. LOL um you can always pass us those tacos hehe looked delicious!!
Nice work as always! A tip: if you stagger the connections in a multi-wire splice you won't have a 'gopher-in-a-snake' under the shrink wrap. Hi Compass!
nice radar unit
Now that you have the extra solar, can you add an electric winch or two? Also can you get one of those ladders that you raise in the mast track to climb the ladder, then the person on the winch is working the safety line and not having to lift the weight? Last, go online and find something on how to tune and set up your radar. Most people have the gain turned up way to far and it mucks up the display and makes it hard to pick out targets and the finer features on the shore line.
Or she can eat a bit more spinach 😉
I was surprised that Teal didn't use some kind of surgical camera to inspect where the mast blockage was occurring.Maybe remove a bolt and poke the camera through the bolt hole?
Love the thumbnail! Lol
I swear I am much bigger than that random. 🤪
I'd like to see you go around South America and then go to the South Pacific and beyond.
For climbing the mast, I use ascender foot loops with an ascender attached to a secondary spinnaker halyard. The boson’s chair is attached to the main spinnaker halyard and run back to a winch. The process is simple… stand up in the foot loops, your partner takes up the slack on the main spinnaker halyard and repeat. It can be slow, but no one is exhausted.
This whole vid is a little too casual for me. Going up the mast with no safety line back up is inviting trouble. If either of those two people at the deck forget to cleat off the halyard line or it slips off the self tailer or stopper you're screwed. Not a good practice but to each their own.
It was good to see everyone this week & Compass doing better while finishing his medicine. Loved seeing the beautiful sunset in the background during dinner. Look forward to sailing into the Sea of Cortez, & understanding the importance of the new radar, how it enhances the SVBasik. 🍂🍁HAPPY FALL SVBASIK CREW!🍁🍂
They say it can pick out a kayak so I wonder if it can display a floating tree trunk or lobster pot! Whatever its a nice piece of equipment to have. Not smelly either!
great video guys :-)
Thanks so much!
You're rocking that chapeau on the way to the bolt store, Linh!
She loves her hats!
Righty tighty..... lefty loosy
As a kid in the 70's, it was rare to see cats at the marina. It seemed such a European thing. Now, they are very common.
Happy for your little Compass. And the radar. 🇨🇦.
When I have to splice some wires together I try and stagger the splices so that the overall size/diameter of the splice stays the same as the existing cable. It makes it a little longer.
love the videos and the family teamwork. hope to see you out on the water someday.
I feel pretty good about you feelin pretty good mate. Good onya great family, the four of you are lookin pretty good.
Radar for Teal, Sail.rite for Lihn
Seems fair....
Cheers guys
Cheers Trev!
Glad to hear compass is doing well what a awesome family happy voyage 😇
Thanks so much!
Glad to hear that you are planning on unstepping the mast and running new power and data cable for the radar at some point in the future. WiFi is nice and convenient, but I'd hate to have it as my primary means of connection to something important! Good to see Compass acting more like himself again
Well that radar will come in handy, it's super important to know what's out in front of you. That thing only pulls 17 watts? That's pretty amazing. The Channel Islands will be a blast - looking forward to seeing that!
Spiffy radar, as Mads would offer😜
glad that compass is feeling better, you Teal are always so considerate of the ladies. 1/2 inch cordless angle drill would make it easy for the girls to winch you up the mast
He's a pretty sweet guy. 😊
That raymarine radar here in South Africa 3500 dollars. Great show
Maybe a winchrite for the ladies Teal, instead of a sailrite 😉
Awesome project as usual. Did you bind and gag Teal below deck while you two config'd the wireless? Because there's no way he would willingly let someone else do do the techy stuff! Lol!
I am unsure if I would have taken the risk you did, with so many Cats around you to have a dog on board, not in the best of health, that is a risk. Good to see you all. Much love.😆😁😀
I look so forward to Friday’s glad you guys are getting some stuff done poor compass I’m glad he’s feeling better I thought about it Emma you’re pretty smart I think you’re gonna be like a veterinarian or may be a pharmacist but I went back some of your back videos and I saw you and your dad doing some pie girl you’re smart good thing your mom‘s got a brain on her huh and boy can she cook You guys be safe looking forward to next week
Dewalt, right angle drill motor with a winch insert. Not cheap but much easier to go up and down the mast.
Hurrah for radar! Super install! Now, Teal, what about that water maker install? Also, there is an open request for another power winch😁✅
Hey Teal ! Ryobi makes a 18v heat gun… it works great !
You need an M28 Cordless right angle drill kit with a winch bit
10:25 Oh that braided wire if fun stuff isn't it...
You need an inspection camera to see the wire runs in the mast.
Can you tell me what cabinet latches y'all use aboard? I love the way your door over that fuse block cabinet looks and would like to do something similar our our boat. Thanks 😊
Yeah you did it 👏🏽👏🏽👍👍👏🏽👏🏽👍👍🍷🍷🍷
