  • On this week's episode of Onboard Lifestyle, we forgo our sail to Santa Cruz Island and hit up Ventura to install our new Raymarine Quantum Q24C Radar. After sailing over a thousand nautical miles in what seems to be endless fog, we get this vital piece of equipment on basik. Just in time for fog to follow us. Come back next week to see where we head off to. See you then!

    Anchor cleaning ala Rick Moore. Rick leaves his muddy anchor under water about 3 feet while the boat is under way then pulls it up once clean. From what I saw it worked but being a known sailor I don't know if that is a risky move. :-) Channel Islands here we come!!!

    Good job. Teal, for someone who has just about every tool imaginable (for a boat), I'm surprised you are making Linh and Emma hand-crank you up the mast. Tsk, tsk. My wife can get me up the mast without breaking a sweat, but she has a little help. We have a Milwaukee Angle drill with an adaptor for the winch spline. 28v, rechargeable and works like a charm. • @MarkLawrenceKiefer
    @MarkLawrenceKiefer Před 2 lety +2

    Now that you have the extra solar, can you add an electric winch or two? Also can you get one of those ladders that you raise in the mast track to climb the ladder, then the person on the winch is working the safety line and not having to lift the weight? Last, go online and find something on how to tune and set up your radar. Most people have the gain turned up way to far and it mucks up the display and makes it hard to pick out targets and the finer features on the shore line.

  • @AndyWJP

    For climbing the mast, I use ascender foot loops with an ascender attached to a secondary spinnaker halyard. The boson’s chair is attached to the main spinnaker halyard and run back to a winch. The process is simple… stand up in the foot loops, your partner takes up the slack on the main spinnaker halyard and repeat. It can be slow, but no one is exhausted.

    • @kkots
      @kkots Před 2 lety

      This whole vid is a little too casual for me. Going up the mast with no safety line back up is inviting trouble. If either of those two people at the deck forget to cleat off the halyard line or it slips off the self tailer or stopper you're screwed. Not a good practice but to each their own.
