Can't agree with this more. Something not mentioned is the amazing modding community for X3Ap. Its still going strong!
Litcube's Universe is the most fun I ever had in any space sim.
Hey, Shack! Love your X3AP series. It's what got me to play the game!
Where can I listen to the sojourn, I heard about it when he started it but I don’t know where to look
Modded X3AP, once you figure things out, is an amazingly efficient timesink.
This is what makes a great game IMO. You cannot expect even the big companies to keep making content for a game year after year but with good mod support the fans will.
"Prepare a Disco Immediately" needs to be a reoccurring catchphrase on this channel
I'll be a bit disappointed if it isn't said at some point in the sojourn.
czcams.com/video/fNFzfwLM72c/video.html
"Disco prepared! Permission to 'get funky' or 'fresh,' sir!"
"Adjusting reactor parameters for maximum grooviness, sir. Ready to boogy in t -5..."
Set phasers to FUNK!
Sidenote on the "Prepare a disco imediatly"
Disco in this universe is short for "Discoverer" which is the smallest Argon Ship there is.
Still hillarious.
Makes it even funnier when Star Trek Discovery was announced. I made a "Prepare a Disco Immediately" meme, and nobody got it. :(
SInce I played the German version, the Joke didn't translate, because Ban Danna actually says Discoverer in the German voiceover :)
And yes, disco means the same in German as implied.
@@EyMannMachHin Yeah the German voice acting is considerably better in many instances throughout the X series.
My favourite two are:
1) The X3 Terran Conflict Introduction.
The English VA is just rather monotone, while the German VA just puts in so much emotion into it. Rather similar to Campbell Lane who voiced the Bentusi from Homeworld come to think of it, and that is an enormous praise.
2) The Jump Launch Sequence of "X Beyond the Frontier".
Specifically the "Abort jump procedure!" ("Sprung abbrechen!"), where mission control panically screams into the mic to abort the jump at the beginning of the game. That VA gives 110%.
Sidenote: A nice little easter Egg is implemented into X4 Foundations.
If you hold shift and press F1, F2, F3 and F4 in sequence: You start Travel Mode, Scan Mode, Long Range Scan Mode and finally: You initiate Disco mode.
I wish they implemented the "Prepare a Disco immediately" voice line at the start of it, just as a clever nod to X2.
You’ve got to love being told a Khaak destroyer is now in the zone, first time it happened to me, I heard “Cock destroyer” I ended up laughing my way through the encounter
did you die tho?
I did the smart thing, I ran away like blazes.
Reminds me of the poor lady asking for a coke - with some spelling problems ;-) Just search for "i want coke" and laugh ;D
lool. same tbh. i legit had one in kingdom end of my reunion play through for over a year the first time i ever played that game.
There is a difference between the two. A Khaak Destroyer is a dangerous and potent warship, especially if you run into one relatively early. A Cock Destroyer is the triple breasted whore from Eroticon 6, not quite as dangerous physically but your bank accounts WILL suffer.
I'm still waiting for Spacedock Episodes about X-Universe ships.

Xenon 9i,aka a battleship made of developer malice towards their player base

I bought the original X: Beyond the Frontier back when you had to actually go into game stores to buy games instead of downloading them. It wasn't out on the shelves, so I had to ask for it at the counter, and then explain that it was, in fact, a space trading game rather than anything else the title might imply.
Likewise. Nostalgia rush...
Buying disks to play your game wasn't that long ago...
What did the title imply? I can't think of anything due to me knowing the X series since I was a kid.
@@tmicecave There was a type of games/movies that weren't on display and had to be asked for directly to buy them. And that the game was named "X" didn't help, i guess.
That type of media is usually freely availlable all over the internet today.
I have a sudden urge to prepare a disco immediately.
"learning curve" isnt exaggerated!
more like learning cliff
@@tomdunn1512 And you're blindfolded.
@@AJsarge1 And your shoes are tied together
@@ArcturusOTE and your hands and arms are tied behind your back
Took about 3 day to a week of playing the game to finally memorize all the hotkeys for navigating the menus for piloting, jumping, giving instructions to other ships in your massive fleet, it was a chore but manageable once you get the finger memory of what shortcut keys to hit in the menus.
The way I like to explain the X series (Particularly X2 and X3) is that it's basically singleplayer EVE. All the cool parts of exploration and building, still has a learning cliff as opposed to a learning curve, but none of the other players.
Finally, X gets the love, it deserves. You forgot to mention the huge modding community (supported by the dev team on the official forums) and the integrated script editor for modding (and cheating). I spend 10k+ hours playing all the games in the series. Alot of ships are inspired (stolen) from other franchises like the Argon Destroyer in X2 (based on the ship from the movie Starship Troopers)
X is one of the best series in SciFi games ever. Very hard to get into, but if you learn how to play the game, you will have alot of fun.
Things like outplaying the different factions/races, fighting the Xenon and Khaak, capturing enemy fighters, boarding and capturing enemy battleships, building your own space station complex to produce tradable items, get your own shipyard and building your own fleet, take over territories with your fleet, trying to keep your conquered Xenon sector from Xenon attacks, using the unfocused jumpdrive to find the lost Goner ship, and on and on and on. I could list millions of other things. If you never played the game, you are missing out.
TRADE, FIGHT, BUILD, THINK
Agreed, die modding community is spectacular. Flying around in an Atlantis escorted by Daedalus was quite the joy.
"play them on a casio calculator" - made my day :D
Not true though. Albion prelude can easily stress out a corei7 and 16GBs of RAM if you bring enough ships to one big touch-up!
Punch-up*. Thanks, auto correct...
I've been wanting you to do X-series ship design pretty much since I subscribed. Especially the TC/AP era but really any would be amazing
The Kingdoms End sector soundtrack was perfect
Wish there was a "Why You Should Play Freelancer". I still miss a game as easy to play and as nice as a space game as that one.
Try "Wing Commander Saga". A Standalone Freespace 2 mod. Well, it´s more then a mod. It´s a whole game and damn, it´s awesome. It´s a fantastic space fighting game. If you haven´t: Check it out :)
INB4 Star Citizen gang shows up XD
Everspace has a Nice Freelancer vibe in the way it plays
The mods for Freelancer were top-notch. I miss it.
I hear that another nice Freelancer look-alike is the new Rebel Galaxy: Outlaw, though I haven't played it personally. Currently it's only on the Epic Store, but it's coming to Steam in August IIRC.
I remember back over 12 years ago when i first got into the X games with X3:Reunion (Bala Gi Expansion) and losing myself in its vast universe. So much stuff my 13 year old brain had to try and understand like like trading and ship combat as the closest thing to it I had played up to that point was Tachyon: The Fringe. Never regretted a moment playing it or X3:Terran Conflict, fantastic games still worth playing even today.
I remember starting in X2. After a while I found myself flying around with my small fighter through far off systems buying and selling random stuff with a post-it note in front of my face where I scribbled down all the prices to get a feeling for what trade runs would be most profitable. Good times...
I still remember playing the demo for the original X game when it came out. One of the earliest dialog choices in the game was an alien saying something along the lines of. "maybe you should become a trader." I instantly chose the 'what!? Never!" response 'cause I was a dumb kid and thought he said traitor, as in betray the Terran people.
I think thats the Teladi (The Ferengi people) Captain that picks you up after your jump drive accident and gives you some basic gear and venture capital so you can go and earn more and be able to pay back the bill he writes you for rescuing you.
I always loved that approach. The Ferengi are always portrayed as greedy. But the Teladi you owe money that you don't have, just gives you start capital and says:"Go trade or start a business or whatever and whenever you earned enough, you come back and repay me with interest." As if he thinks to himself: "Well, i already made a loss here, so let's take a gamble that may possibly turn this into an opportunity. At least that's the only chance i'll see my money back."
Because the music is beyond beautiful.
That is all the reason I need XD
I know this video is old, but thought I'd add in my two cents worth. I actually was introduced to the X series from X: Rebirth. Yes, I'm aware it wasn't well received and many fans didn't like it. But, I did enjoy it and it prompted me to then buy X4: Foundations, which I'm currently loving and awaiting the latest DLC release "Tides of Avarice". It has also prompted me to purchase the full X Series of games. I've just started playing the first release, and while it is dated by today's standards, I really believe I would have been blown away had I played it at release. Kudos to the Egosoft team, I think they do a fantastic job with their games.
I've probably spent a few _thousand_ hours on this series, mostly spread across Terran Conflict and my heavily modified version of Albion Prelude. As you mentioned the learning curve is steep, and the gameplay can be a bit slow and grindy, but if one is into space sims of any kind I highly recommend giving the X-Universe a shot. The depth is amazing, and thanks to a very active modding community there's a mod for almost everything. And thank you for giving my favorite space sim series some attention. I would love to hear your comments on some of the ship designs and such further down the road.
I have dropped 200+ hours into Albion Prelude and still have only a 10% completion rating
Now play Mayhem mod.
Keep in mind as well that many of Albion Prelude's plot missions, ESPECIALLY the Hub plot, are vastly shortened compared to the ones in the base game, Terran Conflict.
I've played X3AP for hundreds of hours since 2012. Now I don't have those hours anymore, being a father and all, but still love the series.
Love the X series. Played them from X-beyond and am one of the few people that is not hating on rebirth. Would love to see more vids on this franchise. Keep up the great work.
I actually loved Rebirth. Partly because it's the one X game that doesn't waste your time with that insufferable travel-distance *:* ship-speed ratio. Especially with the time accelleration dropping you out all the time, every time anything flies by or radios you. The last time i tried X2, i set my autopilot and went cooking an entire meal, only to return to the freighter still on route.
The time thing is the only major gripe i have with X. It would possiibly be my favourite game series otherwise, but the amount of time X games waste completely unneccessarily is just way past my threshold.
Me: I sleep
Spacedock:*uploads video*
Me: real sh*t?
Spacedock: is about x series
Me:*quickest like in history*
Thank you for taking up this Topic. I love the X Universe and have put a lot of time in several x-games. They are not perfect but if you manage to overcome the initial learning phase you will have a great time!
I would love to see more videos about the X-series!
Wow Spacedock. What a great shout out. Never heard of the X series until I bought X4 on a whim. Its amazing. Needs work, but is soooo good for a Sci fi fan!!
The X-Games also have an active modding community producing everything from utility scripts to ships and complete overhauls that are truly awesome.
I watched my older brother play X Beyond the Frontier as a kid.
I always loved how the first thing that happens after the jumpdrive malfunction that catapults you into the games world was the Teladi Navy fishing you out of space, patching your ship up and writing you a bill for the rescue. You literally start the game by trying to pay your debt to an offbrand Ferengi Captain to pay for him not letting you die. I always loved that absurdity.
But that was before i learned that they bill you for calling an Ambulance over there in the US. Now i think it's a pretty striking satire.
-FotG Admiral: Prepare a Disco immediate ........ -Terran Command: Damn the Federation of the Groove has returned, we barely survived our last encounter with them... Alert all stations!
Launch Squadrons Earth, Wind, and Fire immediately!
I got X from a coverdisc of "Computerbild" the IT-Spinoff of a german rightwingpropaganda-toiletpaper and i loved it. X2 held me really busy, but i had to fight with some of the controls.
I was playing Elite Dangerous today and I came across an NPC ship called "Sojourn". Yeah I spent a lot of Wozuras (weeks) playing the X games.
Hearing the game's music is just instant nostalgia for me. My first experience with the series is actually me watching my dad play with X2 and X3:Reunion, and then played the TC and AP on my own, it is an amazing game series. Honestly, I just love Betty's lines, and how she just reads everything you select so robotically.
My favorite part of this video was when you said you were busy working on the Sojourn. That's good to hear, I was starting to think the project had been abandoned.
Long time player of the X games series. Still love them warts and all; but specially the huge number of mods available.
edit: I'd love to see a faction ship comparison from X3 or even X4 once the "Split Vendetta" expansion is released.
im mixed on how they are handling expanding the universe with paid DLCs, on one hand it will help keep development going on a game that still in some aspects feels incomplete, on the other hand the game STILL feels incomplete almost 2 years after release...
also small. very small
I can't describe how great a x3ap ship breakdown series would be! Do your thing Spacedock! My fleet design in this game has been heavily inspired by my watching of your content with BSG/star trek.
Of the X games I've only played Rebirth, and I know it's gotten some hate - but oh man do I love it for the universe and design. I have a massive number of hours into it and it does make me want to go back and play X3.
That feeling when you very first manage to capture a big capitol ship after a massive slog of a battle is just soooo satisfying.
I for one would *love* to see some vids on the ship designs of the X3 arc. Or, perhaps a comparative one about each race - Terrans in particular, since when they show up, they're basically Big Man on Campus.
totally agree, have been hocked on the X series for over a decade now and it never gets old. not to mention that the modding community is very dedicated as well, some real gems out there
Yes! Finally some love for this amazing series! I've spent way too many hours flying around X3AP's systems in my Mamba Raider salvaging cargo from war zones, watching capital ships fighting... While my fleet of UTs went around making some sweet creditsss... Ah, the memories!
There's a humble bundle deal right now where you can get ten of the games in this series for less than twenty dollars. I've been trying to find videos on the series to justify a purchase, and this one has been the most helpful so far. Would have liked to have seen more info on the series though.
If you enjoyed X³-AP you have GOT to try it with "Litcube's Universe".
Also I love that series to death, more vids would be great
So... are we going to see ship reviews of classic ships from the X-Series in the near future? I'm actually interested to see how you judge how some designs changed vastly in between games. Like for example the Argon Titan that was this rip-off of the Starship Troopers battleship in X2 and changed into a much more compact design in X3. I always found that pretty odd, what with the lore texts pretending like it's the same ship while X3 still has the Easter Egg of old wrecks of Titans floating through space looking like the X2 version.
i know this is old but i want to explain the design stuff anyways
The ships are NOT the same lore-wise.
Every X-game takes place years after the game before and thus technological improvements have been made in the universe.
The Titan wrecks you see in X3 are from the 2nd gen titans, which fought in various older conflicts and the khaak invasion while the ones flying around in the game are from the 3rd gen model.
Other ships are similar. The X-universe undergoes constant technological improvements along the timeline of events and thats why, lore wise, ships change so much. In reality it's probably just because of the massive hardware-improvements between X, X2 and X3 that caused the developers to drastically change designs because the better hardware allowed it.
Pfft can you imagine him reviewing the X2 pirate ships?
In the german manual, the editorial instructs you to "Say goodbye to family and social contacts, as you will not be available for the foreseeable future". That kinda sums them up imo.
For anyone interested in playing the X games, the first title to offer a proper space flight introduction is X3 Terran Conflict, my recommendation would be to play THAT tutorial before playing the storywise previous X3 Reunion and THEN play X3 Terran Conflict.
The first game of the series has only one player ship, it´s add-on and X2, 3 and 4 feature a large amount of various ships available to pilot.
Agreed great franchise! My oldest and most prominent experience of X3 Reunion was that somehow a khaak destroyer had literally set up home in kingdom end (top left corner in case i got the name wrong) making the entire sector largely uninhabitable. Over a year i played that game until the bonus pack came out and i was able to destroy the ship using a nova, afterburner and hammerhead missile from significant range. To this day i dont even know why it was there
X2 was a good starter. it's average difficulty and forcing you to learn to fly was just perfect for me at the time. Then came Reunion and it was a bliss. Terran Conflict even with it's bugs at the time was a paradise and that one game is still going on today. The longest game campaign i have had.
The X series was an integral part of my gaming childhood. (BTW. in german as I am ...well german) Specifically the first game , which had me bedazzled with its atmosphere of isolation as this stranded test pilot. Not gonna lie though, my big brothers first playthrough of the first game was riddled with incompetence and very....very...slow progress. Granted, he was maybe 13 at the time and I was about 8 (and therefore of little help) . I realised just how slow this initial playthrough truly had been when I did a playthrough some 10 to 12 years later and basically sped through it in a matter of maybe two weeks ( while still having a social and work life). Also , that soundtrack still slaps, no question.
I was wondering whether X was your thing! Thanks for your support of our sometimes fledgling community
The X series are my most favoured space games and I too started with X2. And then I just kept playing. Each part has it´s own greats and bads. But what never changed is the extremly satisfying moment when you earned enough to build your own space station.
I do miss the skull pirate ships design from X2 in the later games. And yes modding for the X games should have been mentioned as it makes XR and X4 really playable!
Thanks for introducing the games here and getting it a bit more recognized.
X2 was what also got me hooked. Great games, nice story, amazing modding community. The ship designs are great too, some remind me of Star Ship Troopers others are completely individual. You should definitely do some episodes on the ships and how they change across the series of games!!
Thanks for putting this out, completely agree this series needs more love. Been playing since X3 before all the terran stuff so got in just in time to get hooked and then pulled way under when the terrans rejoined the universe. What a series.
X2 the Threat was my first space sim game and that got me into FreeSpace 1 and 2 and Freelancer, have all the X games but 4 right now and love the story in the games and plays great even to this day. As for X3 Reunion think its more for closing out X2 the Threat series just with update graphics. Im sad that some of the ships designs from X2 didnt stay with the series after X3 loved the ships in X2
Reminds me of that star trek flash game, which was always one of my favourite games.
Glad to see this recommendation,
One of my favorite bits about this is that a bulk of the footage is from X², which I overall consider to be a pinnacle.
X3 TC and AP are the high points of the series. The modding community should be recognized for doing amazing work that has lasted the test of time. Litcube, Joubarbe and Xenonarchitect7 deserve specific praise for their modded works, Litcubes Universe (LU), Litcubes Universe Mayhem (LU:M) and Star Wars Litcubes Universe (SWLU) respectively.
The Teladi Company commends you for your precious help, which allowed us to generate a lot of profits.
Thanks for introducing me to this game!! My new obsession
You may have just convinced me to pick this up, the biggest stopping point that I got held up on was the learning/time sink but if X4 streamlines that process even a bit I think I might have the time for it
I've been a fan for years. Thanks for giving it exposure!
I absolutely LOVE the X Series of games! I don't remember how exactly I came to know about it, but I started with X: Beyond the Frontier, and then got X: Tension shortly after I got *close* to the end of X: Beyond the Frontier's story. From there, I got X2: The Threat, and then X3. Aaaaannnnnnnd now I'm reinstalling X3....
So... It is single player EVE online? :D
That's the exact description I faced when I got into the series.
It is, but with better music
As soon as he started describing it I thought the same thing , So it's like EVE online but single player .
It has been called "Eve offline" by some, for years. Though the x series came first.
only much better
Love the X-Series. In high school my best friend and I would spend hours on the old x3tc wiki comparing weapon and ship stats, and we both played both Albion prelude and Terran Conflict. It was the first space combat game I got into, and it still holds a place in my heart. I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on them! Ive already forwarded this video to my hs friend, so he can reminisce as well. We actually just had a call recently discussing his opinions on x4, as he just picked it up.
I love the variety and quantity of ships and terran conflict but I love the base building in X4. I cannot wait till all the races return and have many more sectors to explore. Maybe a longer storyline too.
I was wondering about the Sojourn, glad to know its still going.
Hi Spacedock. Really like your content and I started out with X2 as a kid, so I am interested to get back into it as an adult to better understand what the heck I was doing :))
If you would start looking into ships from the X universe and make breakdowns on them it would help me to decide which factions and ships to go for :D
I remember getting X2 from a magazine and playing it for days. It was an amazing game and not much demanding.
Big fan of the X series here, very enthusiastic for the upcoming expansion for X4.
Would enjoy to see some videos based on the series.

"Covenant-esque"
You now have my undivided attention.
I have been a fan of the series since x3 reunion. Like you said it is a massive time-sink, but one well worth it. There are some amazing mods for this game series too. I came across the game-series when someone was arguing for pc superiority when it came to gaming. And honestly it's a strong argument in his favor.
Love it !
I have stumbled on this channel by a related Expanse video.
Every time i get to a clip from here i always go back and play three games :
X4
Avorion
Empyrion: Galactic Survival
If you are into ship building ( eheheh "if" ) i would say try Empyrion its addictive as hell !
A X-series of ship overviews would be great, not only the ships but jumpgates and stations.
I’m actually loving rebirth . With all the fixes and mods it’s a amazing game. Especially in VR once you mod it up
I love the X series, I've been playing them for years. Some videos on the X ships I for one would greatly enjoy. Love playing Albion Prelude and setting up a narcotics complex in the unclaimed sector between Paranid and Yaki space. Fill a few mammoths with weed and booze and then jump them into Company Pride (I think) and buy all the shares and them jump them out and sell. Proffitsssssssssss!
I just bought the first two parts of this game. I'm going to try it out based on your review of the game. If I like it, I will let you know and then I will look at adding the other expansion packs as I learn the game.
I also started with X2 back then, as a teenager without proper english knowledge. And needless to stay, it took me about a year to master the basics.
Wonderful series.
I also stumbled upon this series via X2. When they released the Superbox, I was finally able to deleve into the earlier titles, since they were difficult to find.
Gaaah! I just started my X universe up again after playing it on low settings when it came out ages ago - jumped back into albion prelude although i think i should have gone to terran conflict first.
Love your episodes, a large reason why i restarted was because i miss having a universe with 40+ ship types and i only saw this vid now!
Please do a few eps on some of the more unique ships if the fans agree; i wouldnt mind an exhaustive ep on each one hehe. Keep up the great work
Nice to see this get some attention.
I bought Beyond the Frontier when it came out in the 90s. I will admit that I never played through any of the X games completely though. The economy was always a bit much for me. Still, X3 was really nice. BTW, there is a fantastic reimagined Battlestar Galactica mod for it, where the modeled everything from Vipers to Battlestars.
Also, there is pretty good VR version of X Rebirth for anyone who has a headset (also on Steam). I wish they'd make a VR version of X4 and apparently the devs are huge VR fans but they said they simply lack the resources to do this at the moment.
Loved Reunion and what I got through of TC. Wish I had more time and setup to play these games still :(
Oh yes indeed, the background music really hit me hard within seconds when I first tried the demo of X3:Reunion a couple of years ago, I took the next opportunity to buy the X Superbox. Most unfortunately I only played the games very little, but I still listen to some pieces of the soundtrack on a regular basis.
Oh, do one for Nexus, The Jupiter Incident. You've mentioned the game before. That was a true gem.
I was really tempted to give this a go at some point but i never got around to installing it. I've always enjoyed the Descent:Freespace series and Elite Dangerous and this looks like a great middle ground with a LOT more player consequence
YES. Please do an X-Series ship design rundown.
Albion Prelude's become one of my two go-to space sims on my macbook, actually. (The other being the freeware Vega Strike.) And despite the learning curve, I do love the game and the franchise. Would love to see more X Universe stuff here on Spacedock, as well.
My macbook updated to catalina :(
My first contact with the X universe was with X3 Reunion, then Terran Conflict and a little bit of Albion Prelude. I was disappointed by X Rebirth and skipped it entirely but appreciated it as a stepping stone, if you will, towards the future of the series. Preordered X4 when it was announced but have just barely played because I'd purchased Elite along with it. Also, I like to use HOTAS and found it a bit clanky at the time, even compared to X3.
I'll definitely go back to it and would love to see you publish more videos on the ships or even lore in general.
Daniel I know you mentioned it before, but I’d love you to do one of these on Homeworld, still one of my favorite space games ever
Definitely discuss the ships of this series!
@Spacedock you should really read the honor harington books by David Webber. The series is a space opera that utilizes newtonian physics with surprisingly little "science magic" like FTL drives. The series is very well done and feels very grounded.
You would probably like the variety of government systems in it as well.
@Spacedock - If you haven't yet, check out the Xtended mod for X3: Terran Conflict/Albion Prelude. Very, very cool conversion, which stays lore-friendly, with an all new map, factions ships, stations, etc. You'd love it.
I played the heck out of X2 back in the day. Really enjoyed the concept of building up a fleet, and the difference ship designs of the other races. Now I'm all about Star Citizen.
Also an X-Vet from the X2 days. The modding community on the Egosoft forums are fantastic too. Massive amounts of extra free content there for a game that you can sink 100's of hours into in vanilla. $'s per hour of gameplay on this game are tiny.
Thanks for this coming up on my feed. The last one that I played was X2. There is little more entertaining than using a Destroyer with maxed shields like a fighter in a dogfight, and just ramming the little bastards.
Initially I used Boron destroyers for the purpose, then realized that Split destroyers were actually faster and more maneuverable than most of the fighters that were harassing me; and I could chase them down.
Thanks for the tip. Wont check out the game, but I'll explore the music for my TTRPG!
My absolute favorite game series, I would love to her more about the ships, stations, universe, races,... 😁
I played X3:TC. Well, actually I just flew around exploring stuff and maybe doing a side mssion or two because I was waaay too young to get into that game completely. I think it's a testament to the game when I enjoyed playing it without ever doing the main mission.
I wouldn't mind seeing some craft from X on the channel. Maybe do top best and top worst episodes, or even focus on some specific ships?
I love the X series, but I always feel like it's ambitions are just too beyond the scope of the team they put behind it. Don't get me wrong, when it works, it's *great*, but I wouldn't trust my favorite hero ship (The Teladi Kestrel, basically a missile with a cockpit) in the hands of the AI autopilot because their autopilot AI just isn't built to deal with the speed that light interceptors and scouts can manage.
Man you would love that small game Starsector, which is basically a top down X game with awesome tactical battles, fleet management, colonization, all the jazz. All done by one single dev i believe. but so deep, so massively deep. and the ship designs, albeit beeing topdown pixel art is grandious.
This series recently got mentioned to me in the Elite Dangerous Hull Seals' community. I think I'll check it out after two glowing endorsements of it.
Now could we get a Spacedock look at the Freespace series and its fantastic modding community?
Hey same, you're probably the first youtuber I've seen that actually does X universe. I knew you were cool
Edit: Hey, you also started on X2 like I did. Something about that game was a real home run.
My dad had this game in his cd shelf a decade ago, never tried to installing it before
