Don't really have that much to say about this game.
Nightcrawler is awesome cause he can teleport through walls, otherwise it seems like a standard platformer. The sound effects are subpar for Genesis though. -

I remember being so young I thought this was hard as hell 😂
Right on I was 7 when it came out
Wait? It wasn’t hard as hell?
It was hard, but not impossible. I do remember beating this game, but it was not necessarily a fun experience. It was more frustrating, and not particularly satisfying. When you hit or killed things, it didn’t feel great. It just felt like, “oh yay I survived that”
It was and still is lol
It's hard as hell. Especially I'm the final level to GET to Magneto with full health
The soundtrack and all the noises just brings back sooooooo many memories. Will never forget the day moms randomly surprised me with this game.
I love it!
I legit came here just because the sounds! I remember my dad playin this when I was like 4 or 5! Good memories 👏🏾 👏🏾 😢
Playing this with my cousins and nextdoor neighbors in summer. Good times man. Life was simpler and more fun then
This was the console era I grew up on. The first system I ever owned was a Sega Genesis and I've been a dedicated gamer since. The sounds from this entire console generation is pure nostalgia
Nothing will ever compare to the farting sounds of this games soundtrack the sweet nostalgia
Can't believe I watched all of this.
Loved this game when I was a kid.
DemomanX614 Nostalgia runs deep in my friend
Folks wouldn't allow game stations in the house, so I had to play at my friends for brief periods. I never got to beat it.
That's probably why I live a life of crime today.
I love this game
Me too 💪👍
Always thought this game was so cool, yet so hard!
Everyone here pushing 40
I'll be 38 in June 😂 it was a privilege growing up in our era and then being alive today to play emulators and watch others play these games again.
Yup 41 here...had this game...and it was tough...lot of long nigts...lol
in 5 more months. :P Man, Michael Jackson was right when he said,"The Sega Genesis sound chip is just AWFUL!"
....Unless you're playing games by Japanese Devs that is. :P They didn't know what they were doing in NA more than half the time.
36 in June
Yup
They should really do a remake of this classic!
There’s a new wolverine game for PS5 coming out lol. There about the best we’re gonna get for now
yea... and not make it so damn hard haha
They will only succeed in making it WOKE
@@tonyyul703 tell me your not an x-men reader without telling me your an x-men reader *lol*
I have to say this is one of the hardest x men games ever. Who would have thought you have to "press" the reset button on the Mojo stage. It took me like 6 months to figure that out. On top of that, I think my dad told me to do that. Just imagine.
Took me 20 years, lol, thanks internet xD
X-Men 2 is way harder. This game is so hard though. It's a lot of stuff you have to know. You have to memorize which characters are good for each level. The Reset the Computer I was destroying it then went everywhere in the level to find where the exit was. Then I called the 1-900 number back in the day as I didn't buy magazines yet at that point in time. They said just press reset on your genesis. Then fighting Magneto that was really hard to figure out too.
@@tonyp9313 x men 2 I found extremely more easy then this
@@tonyp9313Crazy, right?? Like who - especially a kid - would take the risk of getting to the next to the last stage and press "reset" on the console to move to the next round, when it could reset the whole game?! It was a very physical console interaction game - like the cheat code: For the "infinite lives" cheat code involved removing and reinserting the joystick in the other port.
@@billedefoudre Same here. I could never figure it out on my own. It was the same for sonic 3 clicking up on the d pad at the casino stage on the spinning object, when the game never pointed to it previously
Damn I missed this game so much. This was definitely our generation of gaming
To me personally 16 bit was my favorite era.
Yes it was. I have so many memories of playing this with friends during the summer vacation from school growing up.
MAN! I actually beat this game but mojo's level took me forever to beat. I can remember I got to the end and had no idea how to "restart the computer." Finally one day, I hit reset button on my Sega to start over because I was so frustrated and I cleared the level. I will never forget how shocked I was you had to restart the Sega. Who the heck thought that was a good idea?
No way, you accidentally worked that out - too funny
@@Stridewise actually, same. I was a little kid and didn't understand the dialog and could barely read. I remember also getting frustrated and hit reset as well
I also restarted the sega because i didn't know what to do
Same thing happened when i was a kid. I just hit the reset button out of frustration.
I had the same reaction on the reset feature 😂
That Magneto bass 0:35 is so soothing it gives me chills, I love it.
For its time frame of release, this was the best X-MEN around period!
Factz
Except mutant apocalypse snes was better and xmen arcade. But I like this game too.
Na, Mutant Apocalypse was way better. But this game was fun.
@@Jmillz181 no not really that's your personal opinion not factual.
@@JRMAV1 it's subjective in reality
I was obsessed with this game as a kid. I can remember the feel of playing every character. I was obsessed with the aesthetics of it as well.
same cool game period
That soundtrack though, so epic!
I thought it was just me
That genesis could crank some shit
The only game that you have to press reset on your SEGA to proceed to the final stage. This is Kojima level of creativity but why is no one talking about it?? its criminal!
Wow... That's phenomenal creativity!
I wanted to love this game when I was a kid, but it always frustrated me.
heck yeah it was
YTCensorsMe Poop could never get passed Apocalypse so don’t feel bad
Same. I was always stuck at Apocalypse.
Yup apocalypse always got me too lol
hated this game....i rented it so many times and could never beat it. i always wanted to play with cyclops and wolvie....should've just spammed night crawler like this guy did
Whoever was cooking with Professor X’s philosophical monologue at the end deserves a raise.
I’m not gon lie this is probably still the best X-men game that has come out and it’s so old lol Gambit always been my favorite 💪🏾🔥
Damn those whistling bird/bees in the savage land level lol
I loved this game--sick cover, but it was hard and I was mad that I couldn't play as Storm, Rogue or Iceman!
Sick cover, shitty fucking game.
The music for the select screen is so bad ass and when it shows magneto sending that signal to earth. I want this played at my funeral lol
that string of binary coming out of the satellite in the beginning intro translates to "DEVELOPMENT IS HARD". i slowed it down and copied it and put it in chatgpt. it had been bugging me for 30 years because i knew it had to say something...
Massive nostalgia trip, I recall playing this 😀
This had really great graphics for that era. And sound and atmosphere.
'83 so I was 10. As Damien said... all the noises are still in my head. Especially the sound when the bad guys pop from hitting them.
This is the supreme tip with Nightcrawler: If you bamf without moving around you barely decrease the power bar with two amazing advantages: you become untouchable yet deadly for any enemies that touch you (including bosses). i.e. in the level 12:22 you can idle -bamf in front of the gate of the ship; enemies will die as they come out and you wont be affected by cruise speed.
This tip saves enough power to shortcut throughout the levels.
Yeah Nightcrawler was definitely the best character to play as
@@Stridewise Amen. He could jump-attack diagonally, capable of being untouchable yet able to cause damage plus, he was able to teleport across walls. Enough to break the game!
@@cuacomekiki yeah those diagonal kicks were boss too. Wolverine had to have his claws out to do moves like that
The end of Mojo's level pissed me off so much as a kid.
Yep,
It's actually a fourth wall break.
same here
@@SorenDaein Blew my mind when I figured it out.
Same... that damn reset button 😠😂
I loved this game! It was the best comic book video game out at the time. It's amazing how far video games have come.
I'll say Spiderman maximum carnage
@@tjofwakanda8027 Spiderman vs the kingpin
agreed it has come a long way.........
Thank you for playing this. It’s nice to see the game from start to finish since I could never beat it as a kid. Brought back so many childhood memories of my cousin & I playing this & just getting wrecked all the time by stage two. I’m probably going to give it another shot now that I’m older.
This game brings back some great times with bros and childhood friends Haha CLASSIC!
Not me. "Reset the Computer." Bigist Trolling in a video game EVER!
Played this game when I was a kid and never understood why I couldn't progress further after defeating Mojo. Kept trying for months and one day it got on my nerve and I slammed the reset button hard.
"Oh..."
I could never get that far as a kid even as a adult 😢
My Dad figured it out.
He came in to see what I was shouting at the tv about. He told me to do it. Then got frustrated and pressed reset for me n left 😂
The Nostalgia!
Definitely..I bet your about 35 or 36
@@bossedup957 I hope this person is.
Did anybody else notice the satellite at the beginning was shooting out binary code?
I noticed that!
Yes
It's the virus in their training simulator I think
Say less.
I wonder if the code is an Easter egg?
Another thing I never knew is that you could ride on the back of the green pterodactyl in the Savage Land to get over the part with the platforms easier. Have to be fast to catch him, though.
Dude props to you for finishing this game. This game got me cause my reset button didn’t work i couldnt go on to the next level. It was nice watch you play. You killed the villains so easy
THIS was my GAME. This and Tiny Toons All Stars.
Yes to both! I have a Tiny Toons All Stars rom on my laptop.
The basketball game? Holy shit. I completely forgot about that. I loved plucky duck.
Damn I totally forgot about that game!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Sorry for the late responses. I have 2 accounts but yeah, TTAS was a very underrated gem. I'm going to download it's rom right now as a matter of fact.
everytime i would kill a boss when i played this as my first game ever as a kid, it always sounded like a toilet flushing whenever you would defeat a boss lol. And now that i have grown it still sounds like that LOL
😁
🤣🤣🤣
Take some back. Back in 2003 my aunt took me to GameStop, this is when they sold the retro games as well, she told me to pick out a system and a few games so I picked out a Genesis with X-Men, Virtual Fighter 2, Lion King and Phantom 2040. This X-Men game here provided me with tons of entertainment.
This game came across my mind just a few minutes ago, and i came here looking for a gameplay. I was just a kid when I first played this lol. i remember having a hard time tryna figure out how to finish this game. I'm 29 years old now. Jesus time flies so fast
Holds Wolverine back until the end fight with Magneto.....😩-Bruh...
Oh man. All the memories flooding in. And mixed emotions of frustration and joy. We had this on the SEGA genesis.
And that “squishy” sound when you hit an enemy. Lol
thank you for letting me vicariously beat this game through you! its almost been 30 years!
I used to rent this game and play it with my mom. We never played above Amateur, so we never got past the lighthouse. Thanks for sharing this!
This game is so dope makes me relive so many moments as a kid; especially discovering you gotta press restart after beating mojo. Ah the memories...
I only just now learned that reading the comments and I'm definitely going to die mad about it
I came for the sound track
I was enjoying the music, my girlfriend shouted from next door, 'are you using the printer?'
@@JONZORKUKEN lmaooooooo😂😂😂😂😂
Plus the sound effects!
Jonathan Fear 😭😭😭 too funny man
I came for the beer and the bitches
A Friday night in the dark with that soft glow of the television. True relaxation.
Actually pulled this out and fired it up with my oldest brother. (He’s 40 I’m 30) brought us back to when he showed this to me as a kid. He still knew the code to skip to magneto......
these sound fx bring me back!! so crisp lol
ralph malph forreal I seriously want to use some of them as text tones lol
It sounds like at least half of them were reused in the Spider-Man game based on the animated series.
This is the Best 90's Console X-Men Game
Nah the sequel to this way WAY better. Much tighter controls. Better graphics, better mutant power mechanics
no X-men Mutant apocalypse and X-men 2 are better than this game.
@@jn6305 I agree. The gameplay is better and the game was easier!
I love that Nightcrawler can telefrag people. It makes my heart happy.
I'm not really sure what that says about my heart, but whatever.
I never beat this video game.
Grew up with this game, took me years to realize that when it’s says reset the computer, it meant the Sega Genesis 😁
When your parents told you "wait till you get older" and here you are. 😩
That introduction though... Nostalgia at its finest... I was 7yrs old when this came out and I'm 33 now. Man am I old.
Dude I'm 38 I was 12.... It was the first game I beat on my own, great memories
@@reeldirtiestudios Your better than me. I couldn't make it past the third level 😂😂😂
@@casanovaclown dude... If I tried to beat it again today I wouldnt make it past the jungle hahaha my old brain is slow now haha
@@reeldirtiestudios 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was 4 or 5. Can't pass the Mojo level due to not knowing about the soft reset thing.
22:22- Isn't this, hands down, one of the top greatest beats in video game music history?
FACTUAL INDEED
no
No @ 13:18 is
This dude made it look so easy.
It's a bot
Didn’t beat this game until a thing called savestates came out
Then you didn't beat it.
he did
15:51 Nightcrawler is _clearly_ flustered. He knows Deathbird was a serious problem for the X-Men in the past, yet he questioned why Lilandra wouldn't simply ask the professor to send him to help her.
Damn so nostalgic. Someone please tell me I’m not the only one that when I listen to “starboy” by The Weeknd , the beat reminds me of this game lol
My favorite character to play was Wolverine. I’m unsure if it’s a hidden move or a glitch but if you use up his power bar and try to use it again, he’ll sometime go into a berserk rage where he simply stand and attack left and right with his claw and continuously lose health. Or use his diving claw attack with no power and he’ll go into the same berserk state but continuously have the diving attack animation but will slide on the floor. I initially say hidden move because it’s accurate to the comics how Wolverine can go berserk and he’s pretty much unstoppable in that state until he’s worn out.
Sale en el manual
OH, HELL YESSSS!!!! Mojo's level pissed me off to almost the point of no return, but I still love and treasure this game.
I remember renting this game multiple times at Blockbuster lol those were the good ol days
Amazing game with amazing music. I miss the 90s
Nightcrawler and gambit were my go-to's
I still love this game. One of my first games when it originally came out. Got it for my fifth birthday with the genesis console along with Sonic one. I could only beat it if I had nightcrawler though
That damn intro song.. all of em.. core memory unlocked.. me and my brother would play this night and day
Interesting deep-cut boss-fights. Nice to see Wolverine correctly tabled as 5'3".
guaranteed every1 in these comments is around 35 yrs old rn.
Older. 😂
@@bobert877 🤣
33 lol
If you gave this a thumbs down then you are not old enough to appreciate how much gaming has evolved. This brings back memories of missed homework assignments and book reports from staying up late at night to play this.😁😁😁😁
This brings back so many memories
8:51 As a kid when this music would start I really felt like a badass like Gambit. 😎
That’s why Magneto has a helmet on. The music bumping bro lmao
The soundtrack and game are so underrated.
I remember this game having sooo many tricks.
A shortcut pterodactyl in 1st lvl
Nightcrawler static tp for ship section of 2nd one.
Pause screen to see crumbled zone at beginning of 3rd + nightcrawler tp to apocalypse.
It's all super funky to learn about.
Rocked this plenty on my Sega Genesis once upon a time.. classic nostalgia.
Me too man! Great frustrating times!
Agreed. Frustratingly awesome. They put Gambit in a game, I buy it simple as that.
30:15 blew my mind as a kid. It's still pretty impressive today.
Tip: Juggernaut can only be damaged when he is standing, and it has to be a jumping attack on the head. Loved watching this, one of my favorite games on the Genesis
Tip: you can skip him and Sabretooth by using Iceman to create a walkway above the screen he spawns on.
Same, cant tell you how many times I played this and sonic 2 on my genesis. Early 90s and elementary school
Man I was obsessed with this game as a kid. My step dad bought it from a small video rental place because it was impossible to find and I'd rented it so much! 😂
I was stuck on that feckin shuttle for AGES because I didn't realise you had to kill a number of soldiers! 😂 I'd spend hours as wolverine dodging rocks, trying to heal!
Getting the goggles in Muri Island stumped me too.
But I absolutely remember getting to the reset part and it just clicking... 'maybe I should reset this?'
A few years later the same thought process helped in MGS when you were told to look on the back of the case for Meryl's Codec frequency.
Sure Xmen 2 was flashier and you could play as Magneto and Psylocke... But it had NONE of the charm this one had. Wolverine Adamantium rage was a piss poor game that was waaaaaay too hard. Cool roster of characters though.
Remember the weird cheat system in this game? You had to stand under panels and press buttons etc
This game was so flippin hard. I always died in the outer space part where your being pushed back. Never got through the mojo level either.
I loved this game and Xmen 2!
I finished this so many times as a child. Lol. It's weird seeing it now and hearing the soundtrack, and still be able to remember the melody. It's a weird experience.
Thanks for uploading, great memories.
This was the game I got a Genesis for.
Check fridge, Nothing to eat. Check pantry, nothing to eat. Lower standards, repeat.
This game was brutal. I still haven't beaten it without the cheat code.
nice work!
Because it fucking sucked
When Professor X said “You” must be the one to reset the computer, I didn’t know it was supposed to be me! Lol. When the moment came, as an anxious kid, I was hoping I didn’t put all my efforts to shit when I pressed that Reset button. But when I did…YOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Lmao. That was the most satisfying thing. From the numbers popping up, to seeing the intro to Astroid M, to having full energy and mutant powers. And then flying off in the Blackbird 😁😆😆 So damn satisfying. Would love to have that moment again 🤙🏽
Imagine if the made an updated version of this game for ps4/Xbox. That would be awesome
Dude if you play contra, they just released a anniversary collection. Im hoping they do th same with this
Remember the x men arcade version...
sadly as all Licenced games, it would have to require Disney to rerelease it
@@torres1995LJ Better than this, because it was actually fun lol
It would be insane 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
This game was hard af back in the day.
Best X-men game to date!
I still have the original game in borderline perfect condition. I am just getting my kids into video games and can’t wait to play with them
I bought it because Storm was on the cover. Imagine how pissed I was when I realized I couldn't play as Storm or even Rogue. I threw it away. No joke. lol
When i was 7, I rented this from blockbuster and I couldn't even get past the first room into the savage land level and gave up LMAO
I couldn't get pass the second stage lol
I used to love this game! Being able to transform into another character! Also my first introduction to nightcawler. Oh man this is bringing back so many memories. Lol
Omg This Brings Me Back so many Memories. I have beaten this game more than once lol
This game was ridiculously hard the first time I played it. Even more than 10 years later it still was rough. The sentinel stage is brutal and I don't think I ever made it further than that. Damn Gambit can't crouch attack for anything without taking a hit.
Yeah, that Sentinel stage was brutal. It took many tries before finally beating the stage. Then a new headache emerged on the following stage. I eventually beat the game, but it came with much stress. Lol
The only thing I didn't care for was being forced to play it on hard difficulty in order to beat the game.
This was my go-to rental when the new releases were either already rented by someone else or appeared untrustworthy of spending my one-game-per-weekend rental allowance.
😭This game brings back memories.... My childhood, me and my cousin
The sound track still rocks. I was watching this and I could feel the muscle memory. As soon as you got to saber tooth I got confused why you didn't use ice man to skip him.
This was my game back in the mid 90's I never could bet it though, It was to difficult, no cheats on sega and no walk through like on youtube.
jason4275 there actually was a cheat code. That was the only way I was able to beat it.
Well played. I gotta give it to SEGA on this one over SNES'X-MEN series of games. Funny thing is that the music and sound is like SEGA's Spider Man Vs. The Kingpin 👍. Ah the days
The graphics, music, gameplay clean. Welcome back to 1993
I remember getting this game for Christmas. Man…so cool.
