    Thanks for the time and effort you put into your reviews.
    I’ve watched your videos on the high end tactical scopes several times. It’s helped me decide what my next purchase will be. ZCO Is my pick. It will replace my S&B 3-20 Ultra Short on my Cadex Guardian. But I’m still waffling on which one. I guess it will depend on which one is in stock when mid April comes. For my use either will do. I like the idea of the 420 since it’s smaller. And most of my shooting will be at 600 yards or less. But more magnification in the 527 is nice.

      I do not have that scope here any more, so I can't really do a live through the scope thing. I am thinking of discussing the merits of a few commonly available precision reticle, so that may be a good time to do some analysis of the MPCT3x. It is a good reticle overall, and it is clearly successful, but it does not work particularly well for the way I shoot. That may be worth a discussion.

    Great video! Do you feel that the AMG for the money could keep up optically and mechanically with the 56mm scopes for a PRS rifle?

    • @DarkLordOfOptics
      @DarkLordOfOptics  Před 4 lety +2

      AMG would do quite well on a PRS rifle. The exit pupil difference would be felt a little above 18x or so, but that is largely it.

      @@DarkLordOfOptics Thankyou. I do enjoy your reviews because you possess a knack for presenting the fine detail about each scope &, since I have no way of obtaining any such information except via reviews, the more information those reviews contain, the better.
      As I am presently in the market for a tier one scope, I would value your opinion on the S & B ultra bright scopes. Since I use my scopes mainly for night shooting under spotlight, I much prefer 56mm objectives &, a very generous eyepiece. Because I shoot from the confines of a vehicle at night, the exit pupil of a scope becomes a major consideration, as does depth of field with respect to focus adjustment.

    What are your thoughts on the NF ATACR F1 5-25 / 7-35 compared to the other high end scopes in your testing? I was also curious how the Gen 2 razor stacked up to the Mark 5 or other scopes in that category. Really enjoy your videos. Currently own a 5-25 PM II DT with the H59

    • @DarkLordOfOptics
      @DarkLordOfOptics  Před 4 lety +3

      7-35 ATACR is a very nice scope, but since they raised the price I am not sure it is worth it. Unless your S&B gives you trouble for some reason, don't change. Stepping up from that would mean going to Tangent Theta or ZCO or one of the two new March scopes coming out. Between mark 5 and Razor Gen 2, it is kind of a difficult call. I like both, but for different reasons. I probably slightly prefer Mark 5 overall, but I will reserve judgement until the new tree reticle comes out.

    ILYA, I’ve been trying to find the “perfect” lighter weight long rage hunting scope for some time now. I like FFP but also have concern with reticle visibility on the low end. I’d like a little more then 15x on the top end or I would’ve already bought the TT 315M or H. I’d like 3x on the low end or I would have already bought the AMG. I haven’t had a chance to look at the March F 3-24x52 this scope seems about perfect my only concern is what I understand is a shallow depth of field and sensitive parallax. I have a 5-25 S&B which leaves me disappointed every time I look at hunting scopes or at least what I’m looking for in a hunting scope as the glass in the S&B has moved my benchmark quite a bit.
    So my question is considering my criteria what do you think would suit my needs, have really good or close to alpha class glass, and perfect mechanical performance. Scopes I’m considering (if there are others I should consider please advise) March F 3-24x52, Vortex AMG, NX8 3-20 or 4-32. Thanks again for your feedback, really appreciate what you do.

    • @DarkLordOfOptics
      @DarkLordOfOptics  Před 4 lety +1

      You should really look at March 3-24x52 carefully if you want more than 15x. It is a very good crossover scope. Toward the end of the year, March will have a new 4.5-28x52 scope out that should be a step up with its High Master optical system and wide angle eyepiece.

      I just got the pm2 3-20x50 on sale for my hunting rifle and it is superb. Also have the m7xi and it is very capable on driven game as well. If you hunt bigger game I would say the pm2 is a tad better, fov is about 30% better on 3x vs the m7xi 4x. For me the higher mag the m7 gives is only suitable for spotting and the 20x the pm2 gives is sufficient. You generally will shoot between 10-16, higher than this you will easily lose sight of the animal during recoil and cant spot your shot. The thing I would change for the pm2 is give it a daytime bright lighting like the m7xi has, since when shooting driven moose I usually use the lighting. On the msr and msr-2 reticles only the center cross illuminates so it works like a 4x red dot and the reticle does not wash out. Without a light, it will in heavy forest. M7xi with msr-2 cost me 2705€, and the pm2 was on sale for 2490€ with the msr reticle. Normal price was 3150€. For that price, I would rather go with the m7xi with a spuhr isms or hunting mount and get a red dot ontop of the rings. You can get all of that for the price of the pm2 undiscounted and the package will be all around better. Higher mag range and also a real red dot for close shots.

    Hello, I'm building a 1000 yard competition rifle. It's a extremely accurate rifle capable of 1" groups @1000 yards. I'm looking for a scope that will see through haze and possibly minimize mirage as much as possible. I need to be able to focus on a 1" tall X for bullseye and not cover it up with the retical. I need extremely sharp image. I'm hearing lots of things from many different scopes. What would be your choice. Delta striker 5×50 sounds good but how does it compare? I currently use a 36x Leopold which isnt bad, but mirage is a issue with it and image is just not as clear as it needs to be. Good things about it is the fine retical and light weight. Imagine is sharp enough that I can see the bullseye X on the 4 corners when in the middle. Many shooters are saying that a March isnt as clear of an image as let's say a Nightforce competition, but it's better than a Vortex golden eagle 60x. If you where picking a scope, without completley breaking the bank what would it be? Thank you!!!

    • @DarkLordOfOptics
      @DarkLordOfOptics  Před 3 lety +1

      Depending on where you live, seeing a 1" X at 1000 yards is really difficult simply because the atmospheric conditions usually do not allow it. If everything else falls into place, the best scope for this type of shooting is indeed March High master 10-60x56. I am not sure who told you that Nightforce Competition is better, but they are wrong. Delta Stryker 5-50x56 is very good and definitely competitive with the Nightforce, but neither is in the same league as March High master. Mirage is a natural phenomenon and it will be there with any scope. The higher the quality of the scope, the better you can see with or without mirage.
      As far as shooting 1" groups at 1000 yards goes, that would be quite an accomplishment, given that the current world record is a 1.058" group at 1000 yards, set a couple of years ago if I remember correctly.

    • @joeldubose5762
      @joeldubose5762 Před 3 lety +1

      The record was set by Mike at our shooting range. I purchased the same rifle, that has been proving more and more that sub 2" is available capable.
      I started with a trainer rifle , that I personally reworked from a factory rpr. I commonly shoot a sub 2" group. That took a great deal of effort, however because of the attention to details it's something that I can do.
      As for the High master, I've been looking at it, wondering why the mfg discontinued it? What will this mean for a time of repair? I have been looking at many scopes and just cant seem to get in the price range that I'm looking for. I need to keep a budget under or around $2000 maybe $2500 if it's better for the price.

      @@joeldubose5762 The High Master scopes have not been discontinued. Not sure where you got that. Quite opposite, March is adding additional models that use the High Master optical system. Either way, if you are looking in the $2k range, High Master scopes are well out of that price range. I'd be looking at Delta 5-50x56 or Sightron SV 10-50x60

    • @joeldubose5762
      @joeldubose5762 Před 3 lety

      When I logged into planet optics, the only place that I can purchase them there's a note attached that the High master scopes are discontinued. I'm guessing that they might be making changes to the scope. If I had to guess its would be in the turrets. Markings from zero stop and where you're at on number of rotations is not good. After your suggestion, I went to make that purchase. The Delta striker and the sightron ssV was another choice that was more budget friendly. However as per your video comparison they both had slight differences that arent perfect. The glass in the Delta sounds like it's better, but your comment about parallax on the sightron is fully noted for shooting paper at 1000 yards. I'm watching your video if I could only have just one as we speak. Maybe it will give further insight into how much I would be giving up by going to one of the two that you just mentioned.

    Hi DLo. You mentioned the schmidt pm2 3-20x50 very briefely. If You should choise between the that and the pm2 5-25x56 wich Would You go for. ? And why? I dont like the tunneling on the 5-25. Because i fear that it Would be close to impossible to use on a Hunt. But on the other hand i fear that i lose too much magnification on the Long range if i go with the 3-20. I really hope You Will share your thoughts. Thanks in advance, btw i am danish, but i hope You can read and understand my poor spelling.☺️
    Best regards Jakob

      This really depends on the application. For hunting, I would definitely lean toward the 3-20x50. For precision shooting, toward the 5-25x56. The magnification difference is not that big of a deal, but the 5-25x56 is a fair bit more forgiving to be behind on higher magnifications and has better image quality overall, especially contrast and depth of field.

      Thank you very much for the answer. I went for the 5-25;) i decided that i could Always buy a good , more dedicatet hunting scope later on. Maybe a 3-12 og somerhing like that. For that purpose, do you recommend adjustable parallax for hunting? Og would you go for 100m fixed?

      @DarkLordOfOptics  Před 4 lety

      @@vonstjerne That depends on what kind of hunting you do and the scope. Generally, I tend to lean toward simpler scopes for hunting, but if it goes much beyond 10x in magnification, sidefocus is a good thing to have.

      @@DarkLordOfOptics Does a short scope like Schmidt Bender ultrashort make depth of field shallower? The shorter the scope the shallower the depth of field? Idon't really know anything about how optics work. Thanks

      @@ryaniam22 Generally, shorter scopes tend to have shorter depth of field. However, that can be mitigated by better optical design to a good degree. Within the same product range by the same manufacturer, a shorter scope will generally have shallower depth of field than a longer one on the same magnification. However, when comparing between different brands and very different designs, it can go either way.
