Me too. IF you were a rider who wore Harley boots (I am, I do) and you come off and break an ankle, both you and the EMS will be thankful there is a zip. BUT. These Harley boots you test here are not really 'safety' riding boots. The left boot has no gear shift patch over the big toe, and even a lot of the Chinese boots have these. The outside ankle has no bone protector. The ones I have do not have that mesh liner (and Harley boots do not have those safety features I mentioned), and the sole is a vibram like sole. The boot is way better made (in Vietnam, not China) than the pair you show here, and for the $100 I paid in the Winter clearance sale at my local dealer, the value is OK.

The zipper makes sense on boots designed for actual motorcycle use, as having laces that could come undone while riding could lead to them getting tangled with the bike. But nothing in the breakdown of the boot indicated any actual safety or motorcycle specific features, like additional ankle, toe or heel protection, or even a thicker patch of leather for the shifter on the left boot. This boot was obviously not made for riding, and it's about as safe as a leather vest.

They are currently at about a year of wear, and I still have a little life in the soles but they have definitely seen some use, 2 months as a metallurgy inturn in Nevada(lots of walking and plenty of rock crushing), 3 months loading trailers for Walmart(I developed a mild wool allergy during this time and started wearing bamboo liner socks to prevent direct contact), a month working at Wendy's (not hard on the boots, but it was a lot of standing and they prevented foot pain) as well as an additional 6 months loading trailers for UPS. My biggest issues with the are the terrible quality of the speed hooks, the fact that they weren't initially wide enough for my feet(I have wide feet, and the leather did stretch after I saturated it with oil) and the fact that the leather is falling apart at the edge of the steel toe(it was a bit thin to start with and has become somewhat week from fatigue) and i wore through the leather on the toes (this isn't unheard of for steel toe, and covered it in epoxy to prevent rust). Based on a smartwatch I occasionally borrow I average somewhere between 10 and 20 miles of walking per day when loading trailers. Once i got past the brake in period these boots have been very comfortable (with the exception of when I tried Dr Scholl's gel insoles) I currently use some homemade insoles in them but have found that cheap foam insoles are also pretty comfortable if they are changed out about once every 1 to 2 months.

Harley is good at making obnoxious, heavy bikes for a dying market. I was interested to see how their electric bikes would be, that was a joke. Not surprised these weren't up to the challenge either. Regardless, I'm still excited to watch your build series.

I really thought they were going to be a lot more expensive than $150 since Harley loves huge margins but I guess for the quality they're already pricy.
I have some quality Harley stuff that lasted me a long time but shoes are a whole different beast from hoodies and wallets, and I usually don't expect non-shoe brands to get them right. Still doesn't excuse the crappy product though.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Harley! 😒
I almost fell for this whole marketing charade, when I was a younger novice rider I bought a whole bunch of cute HD labeled leather clothing for riding (jackets, pants and a pair of gloves) thinking that because it had Harley Davidson slapped onto it that it was appropriate for motorcycle riding.
Couldn’t be further from the truth!
Virtually all of Harley’s leather clothing is nothing but fashion leather marketed to bikers, not appropriate riding leather.
My pants and jackets all have polyester lining (traps sweat) rather than mesh which allows air flow, no ventilation, no built-in armor or pockets to add it and the leather is so pliable that it can be folded and put into a drawer.
Not too mention the needless metal studs and spikes that could easily hurt you in the event of going down or crashing.
Contrast that with my vintage armored Vanson leather jacket, where I can’t even fully bend the arm the leather is so thick.
There’s really nothing that distinguishes most of HD’s clothing from any other fashion brand, apart from the dangerous aspect of inexperienced people thinking it will stand up in a slide just because of a company logo.

If their boot was quality, it'd be like their bikes in having repair or maintenance done at a deal for 4x the price.
