    Wrap duck tape around your finger's, sticking side up...it should help with some sticky residue.

    • @TorontoJon
      @TorontoJon Před 2 lety

      Yeah, that's what I do too and if not duct tape, I use masking tape. A slightly damp microfiber cleaning cloth can also remove residue and clean up covers with no damage to the covers or artwork.

    Very nicely done in terms of a VHS collection.
    And above all else..... Thank you so very much for the trip down nostalgia lane.
    And Above all else... I still wish I kept a whole bunch of Disney VHS tapes I used to own in my childhood.
    As opposed to most of them being tossed away or being lost in the multiple moves I made throughout my life.
    But hey...... I'm finding more tapes like these in all the local thrift stores near me and I couldn't be more happy to see a bunch stores still carrying VHS tapes to this day.
    I just wish that there would be more video stores and less streaming services in 2024.
    Aside from that. A fine job done on the video. God bless and have a cool day.

    33:38 I have that 'On Vacation With Mickey Mouse and Friends' but on Beta and it has 'Mickey's Trailer' (one of the best Mickey, Goofy, and Donald Duck shorts) as well as a cartoon where Mickey, Minnie, and the gang are visiting Waikiki with Goofy surfing and Pluto getting up to some shenanigans with a feisty crab. :)

    32:11 I have some of those golden cover 'Life With Mickey' and 'Silly Symphonies' tapes but I bought them last year or so from eBay on Beta as a lot of five or six movies that were cheaper than hunting down the VHS tapes and I have a working Sony Beta Hi-Fi player, but in retrospect, I should have stuck with VHS. They were quite pricey back in the day when Disney was first releasing movies for home video and rentals.

    • @ToddEWalnuts

      There are at least a few more gold case VHS titles that I’ll have to purchase off eBay. Something to look forward to over the next year. I’ll have to hook up my VCR and start viewing these tapes.

    Lots of great Disney titles there, Todd, and I've always liked the clamshell cases as an extra touch of Disney luxury (when one finds them intact) compared to typical cardboard slipcases.
    I still have my original Disney VHS clamshell collection released between the late '80's and the '90's and I've scooped up plenty of Disney VHS, including black diamond tapes, as well as some movies that were still sealed for only 99 cents from local Value Village stores, Goodwill's, and Salvation Army Thrift Stores. :)

    • @ToddEWalnuts
      @ToddEWalnuts  Před 2 lety +1

      The clamshells are so nice. They look nice on the shelves too. They have a higher quality feel than a cardboard sleeve. The earlier releases feel even nicer to me than the later clamshell cases.

    17:16 I also have that INFAMOUS version of 'The Little Mermaid' black diamond edition VHS (and possibly the re-issue). I think I still have a store-bought poster too with the INFAMOUS phallic castle spires. That was one disgruntled Disney employee that designed the poster. Hahaha! :)

    Amazing video Todd. I like Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, The Little Mermaid, The Nightmare Before Christmas, 101 Dalmatians (the live action Glenn Close version), James and the Giant Peach, The Haunted Mansion, Aladdin, The Neverending Story VHS'. I would recommend you to add in your VHS collection the following family classic titles: The Secret Garden, A Little Princess, The Boy Who Could Fly, Peter Pan (2003), The Goonies, Gremlins 1+2 and Candleshoe. Also I would like to tell you that Shout Factory will release many goodies like Alligator (1980) on 4K, Alligator 2 (1991) on Blu-ray, The Howling (1980) on 4K and many other titles. Also it would be nice to see a video with the new Disney titles on Blu-ray mixed with your favorite Christmas films that you consider as traditional. It would be an ideal video for Christmas Eve. Many thanks, Todd. You are the best.

    13:34 'Fun and Fancy Free' is a lot of fun and the 'Mickey and the Beanstalk' sequence is the best of the lot with Mickey, Goofy, and Donald Duck at their finest. As I mentioned to you before, Todd, several years ago I watched Disney's 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' on VHS which I had projected onto my 120-inch pull-down projection screen while using my Canon LCD projector and it looked AMAZING! Even for a VHS, I was struck by how sharp it looked and how vivid the colours were.
    Sure, a DVD or Blu-ray has better resolution, but honestly, the VHS tape which I had owned since its original in-store release looked fantastic. I had no complaints at all and it held up really well after all those years.

      @@ToddEWalnuts I have a media room/man cave in my basement which I enjoyed for many years watching movies on Beta, VHS, DVD, laserdisc, and Blu-ray. I haven't really used the media room properly for a while (a few years at least) and mostly watch movies in my living room (a warmer room too), but I must definitely get back to enjoying a great makeshift home theatre experience.

    27:36 I think I have that original release of 'The Sword and the Stone' black diamond release with the more painterly cover showing the sword already pulled out of the Stone, but it's on Beta from back in the day when I had a Columbia House membership and bought a few Beta tapes at the time before the Beta-VHS War caused Beta to lose as a format. :)

    • @ToddEWalnuts
      @ToddEWalnuts  Před 2 lety

      I haven’t even thought about collecting these movies on Beta. I would love to collect them, but I better stick to VHS just for the lack of space. Maybe I’ll grab just a few of my favorites, but I still have a bunch of the VHS I need.

      @@ToddEWalnuts Plus, it's really hard to find working Beta VCR's these days. I bought a working Sony Beta Hi-Fi VCR a few years ago on eBay (not cheap; at least $100 to $150 back then in used condition), but I mostly see units on eBay being sold either untested or for parts only while one can still buy working VHS VCR's at local thrift stores. Beta machines are a gamble.

    12:28 It's funny, but I never really cared for 'Fantasia 2000' and I even avoided seeing it in theatres. The original 'Fantasia' was so much better while the sequel didn't really resonate with me even though I love music by George Gershwin, etc. It's hard to recapture lightning in a bottle as we've seen with so many past and upcoming reboot movies that just can't match the originals.

    • @ToddEWalnuts
      @ToddEWalnuts  Před 2 lety +1

      The original is so classic that it can never be touched. I went into “2000” knowing that it most likely couldn’t duplicate the magic that the original had. I still enjoyed it for what it was.

    15:46 I have both of the 'Jungle Book' VHS releases too. It's another one of my favourite Disney movies.
    I have only watched and listened to the original black diamond version, so I'd be curious to know if the re-release with the THX remastered soundtrack sounds a lot better. A lot of the reissues had THX sound remastering which I presume provides 5.1 surround sound or at least a more immersive sound experience. :)

    • @ToddEWalnuts

    12:14 'Fantasia' is one of my favourite Disney movies too and I've even got the soundtrack of classical music conducted by Leopold Stokowski on a double-CD set as well as a double-LP and triple-LP set, the latter of which had a psychedelic poster included (and the album is still sealed).
    The VHS tape itself has a cool holographic star pattern all over the label. Does yours have the same type of label, Todd, or is yours the plane label like I've seen with other 'Fantasia' VHS tapes I have found? It's an interesting variant anyway. :)
