    Hi! I've been watching several of your videos over the last month or two. I'm that new to the world of succulents. I'm not a gardener, but I've always like to have living plants around my house. What I want to say is throughout your presentations describing your methods, I like how you make a lot of simple yet practical recommendations on techniques that get the job done and are very resourceful to this beginner. Without a lot of rambling or meandering, you explain concisely why you follow your practices which makes the ideas stick a lot better. So many folks on CZcams (not all of course) meander and go on tangents while I'm thinking "please hurry up and get to the point." Some fluff is ok of course. So I regard your content as very high quality and appreciate the time you take to share your ideas. I know it's a lot of work. I have subscribed to your channel and your mailing list. Best regards, Mike.

I moved them under my desk where it’s shaded and cooler, but I’m wondering how crucial it is to keeping the temp between 60-70 F. Like, will my seeds die because they’ve been in the warmer temp?

One thing I'm having a hard time finding info on is how often they should be watered in the early stages and how much time they should be spending under the lights per day. Are you able to give some input on that?

    Tip for people trying to "sterilize" their soil: you can get a turkey roasting bag and boil the bags of your mixed up soil.
    A meat thermometer would help, but not necessary since it doesnt have to be perfect. Im not positive about sterilizing the soil, if thats necessary or even good, but you can for sure pasteurize it as a base measure. I've never cared to for seeds, since if they die from any old dirt then they werent strong enough anyway, but im about to foray into rare cacti and succulent seed growing so i planned on boiling a huge bag of soil in one of those stock pots

    This makes me think I have way too many seeds lol. Ive been gathering seeds from all sorts of succulents from outside and I have a vial about 1cm diameter filled up to 2cm with fine mixed seeds and about 0.5cm of moonstone seeds in another vial. So I've got hundreds of tiny seeds although some of them weren't in good condition. Now that I've messed around with gathering seeds I gotta figure out how to plant them all.

  • @RefurbishedPrototype
    @RefurbishedPrototype Před 11 měsíci

    Okay. So how did I find you? Well....
    I love chilies and I'm growing sever kinds. I thought it would be beneficial to have a varity of flowers around to lure in insects to help polinate, so I started growing flowers too. I came across a few succulents that looked nice for the house while I was at it, so I got some of those too, but I didn't realize that they can take 2 years to get to that golf-ball-sized bud you showed.
    Obviously, I've got more going on than I intended, so my question is this; is there an all-in-one gravel/base that I can get in a smaller amount to get my succulents going and get back to flowers and chilies?
    Sorry for the long-winded question. Just wanted you to get a fell for the lack of time with work, kids and getting in over my head with a runaway patio garden.
    Great information. Great video.

    Do you know if fluorescent or LED lights are better to get the stressed colors? thanks

    • @AngelsGrove
      @AngelsGrove  Před 3 lety

      I don’t know which would be stronger but I think the stress level comes down more to time of light and closeness. The closer the light is to the plant and the longer amount of time it is on, is when you will probably see more stressed succulents. I recommend a white light regardless though in comparison to the pure because you can actually enjoy the beautiful colors whereas the purple grow lights don’t really showoff the color of the plant. Hope that helps! Also, my grow lights are LeD

    In nature wouldn't succulent seeds blow around and land somewhere random. This would mean that the sun is likely going to be hitting these seeds and such. The sun is alot stronger than any grow light I have seen. I wouldn't think grow lights can burn the seeds. Just a thought.

      I don’t because I just purchased mine at Menards or Lowe’s. But it was just a paver sand or play sand, and just make sure it isn’t treated with herbicides.

    Can you tell me how often you water your seeds and are they in the light 24 hours a day or like 8 hours. Also what color are you using on your grow light. Mine have 3 colors i think they are blue red and white.

    I planted some laui seeds. How long took yours to germinate?

    • @AngelsGrove
      @AngelsGrove  Před 3 lety +1

      I want to say my Lauiis took about 2 weeks. But it all depends on the moisture and heat in your place.

    Hi Jess, I just recently ordered some Lithops seeds that I'm quite excited for! I was just wondering how long I can hold on to the seeds without doing anything to them as I currently don't have a space for where I can keep them during the growing process as I currently have so many leaf propagations going at the moment.

    • @AngelsGrove
      @AngelsGrove  Před 3 lety +1

      The sooner the better but I bet they would maintain a pretty good germination rate for about a year

    • @missylee5
      @missylee5 Před 2 lety +1

      @Emma Lee Lithops seeds can actually hold for up to 10 years and have a much better germination rate after a few months vs fresh seeds. Some varieties like Optica Rubra need to be sown within 1-2 years, but most you are able to keep for many years and still have good germination rates.

    Hello 👋
    I have a question regarding growing succulents from leaf rather. I accidentally, cut the very tip of the leaf and wonder if anybody here has ever experimented growing succs roots with a damaged leaf, any ideas?

    • @oldkingcrow777
      @oldkingcrow777 Před rokem

      For anyone who sees this later, you aren't going to be able to from a cut leaf. You *could* but it would require tissue culturing which is a science and your average garderner/noob will not be able to.
      To propagate succulents from leaves (even aloe vera) you need to have some of the stem tissue intact. That little white nub is where the roots will form from

    Will silica sand work?

    • @castleviewfarms7247
      @castleviewfarms7247 Před rokem

      I’ve used silica sand and it worked great. I actually like it better than paver sand due to the uniformity of the pieces.
