    Can you do a comparison of the mungyo extra fine and handmade pastel?

      Mike has not filmed a side by side comparison of the Mungyo Extra Fine Soft and Mungyo Gallery Handmade Soft Pastels, but you can view a video showing off the virtues of the Mungyo Gallery Handmade Soft Pastels here:mediabus.jerrysartarama.com/products/ProductDemos/pastels/PD-Mungyo-GalleryHandmadeSoftPastels.mp4 The main difference is that the Mungyo Gallery Handmade Soft Pastels are made with more pigments, kaolin clay, and less binder than machine-made pastels. Since these pastels are entirely handmade, less binder is required to hold the pigment together, making for a much softer pastel with tremendous blending capabilities. The pigments themselves are of superior quality, with the highest lightfastness ratings, ensuring your artwork remains brilliant over time. As an added bonus, Gallery Handmade pastels match perfectly with Mungyo's line of Gallery Extra-Fine Soft Pastels. This opens up a world of layering possibilities by using the softer Handmade pastels over the somewhat harder, machine-made Extra-Fine pastels. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

    What the difference between Extra-Fine Soft Pastel and Artists' Soft Pastel Squares?

    • @JerrysartaramaArtSupply
      @JerrysartaramaArtSupply  Před 3 lety

      Dear Shea- There are many types of pastels, and all give very different performances and are designed for different purposes. Soft pastels are traditionally a combination of pure pigment, kaolin clay, and gum Arabic, where soft pastel squares are slightly firmer and pressed into a form, to give you tighter rendering control within using the end for drawing or outlining when working. Jerry’s Artarama has an educational show called Jerry’s LIVE that covers different topics, and did a show on all types of pastels and what the differences are, as well as an after party where they talk about using the pastels and try different brands to compare them. Here is a link to those two shows, for more pastel education! JL10: The Pastel: From Hard To Soft, To Oil
