Fixing 2 Dead Honda ATC 200ES Big Red Starters!

- I got these Honda ATC 200ES, ATC200E, TRX200, ATC200M starters as part of the recent Mega ATV Deal. There are several ATVs in the hoard that need these starters, so, it is time to fix them. One is seized, the second does not spin when power is applied. Both turned out to be fairly easy fixes, they needed to be cleaned, the brushes unbound in their housings, bearings needed lubrication, and one needed an internal electrical repair.

Thank you for this video. In the last hour I pulled a 200E starter that was seized. The brushes looked new but there was bad rust in the body of the starter.

@@HarveySpooner hey Harvey just picked up a 1982 200e Big Red for free the plastics are all intacted but light on compression so I pulled the engine out and gonna slap some rings in it but It doesn't seem to be getting oil to the cam? Thoughts on this issue?

Low battery, moisture, and excessive cranking (overheating), are what usually kills a starter over time.

Question for anyone. Looks like the positive on the starter is shorted to ground. Mines doing that too. What causes this?

i have a starter the someone over torqued the positive terminal as well but i need to find a grommet mine is rotten to pieces. any ideas?

Harvey I have been watching for a good while. But I have a question. I have a Honda recon es that won’t shift and I hooked up a 12v battery to the shift motor and nothing happened and when I hook it up to the multimeter there’s no continuity. And the dash is flashing a 3 fault code please help
