IVAN left a comment with a detailed response to my video. Here it is:
Hi Jake. Thank you for the excellent review of my knife. My English is frankly weak, but I think I heard and understood your comments. And I am ready to answer them.
    1. The teeth in front of the lower front part of the handle are not for grip, but to signal your finger that you can't go any further. Because otherwise you will cut yourself. The knife does not have a physical handle limiter, as it often interferes with work rather than helps. That’s why these teeth are provided; when you touch them with your finger, you must understand that it is dangerous to go further, further there is a sharp blade.
    2. The index finger is not subject to significant load during rough work. Since the main load is distributed between the notch in the palm between the thumb and index finger and the little finger. The index finger itself mainly performs the work of controlling the blade. This is a delicate job that does not create significant stress on the finger, but requires the most precise positioning of it on the handle. This is what these two recesses on the sides of the handle are made for.
    3. The teeth on the back of the handle are needed for comfortable removal of the knife from the sheath with wet or oily hands.
    4. Regarding the screws: the nut really should not have a slot for a screwdriver. In my design, the nut is completely under the handle and the screws are screwed into it from both sides. But the designer at the factory kept my design visually, but changed the design of the hardware.
    5. As for the sheath, I designed the sheath that is on Ostap Khel’s knife in the shot. And these scabbards were designed by RSK specialists and I can’t say that I’m very pleased with them. This is not a sheath but more of a case for carrying a knife. That's why for the next fixed knife from RSK I asked a friend of mine to design the sheath and this sheath turned out to be absolutely gorgeous. I hope RSK will make them at the same level as my friend Anzor Akhabadze. He has his own CZcams channel.
If you have any more questions regarding my knives, I will be happy to answer.
    Sincerely, Ivan D. Braginets.

Thank you very much Ivan. I appreciate the responses. I will PIN your Comment at the top, hopefully more people will see it that way.
I look forward to seeing the sheath on your next knife with RSK, I hope they make it exactly the way you want it made.

I agree, I wish they would have come out with an alternative sheath like the type they are more known for and let the consumer make the choice.

Agree with all your assessments, especially regarding the handle. Three thoughts. You could make (or likely buy) a leather sheath that would work just like most bushcraft sheaths; pure friction retention against the handle so no worries about the guard snapping into kydex. It really needs a sharp spine. I know some solid bushcrafters who prefer the crowned spine like that, so it’s really a matter of opinion. Not just for scraping a ferro rod, but for scraping wood to make tinder or to scrape a wood surface smooth. Lastly, not a fan of the zero-degree Scandi. Way too fragile of an edge. That’s fine if you’re working with fir or pine, but any hardwood is going to destroy that edge. I always know when someone is blathering about a “true Scandi” edge that they’ve never actually used a knife. True Scandi is a made up term that comes from nowhere. A tiny micro-bevel on that edge will make it bomb proof.

      @CanadianCuttingEdge  Před 3 měsíci

      Thanks John!
The benefits of a section of sharp spine is very real. I find that only a small percentage of bushcraft knives have such a spine. Thankfully it isn't very difficult to put a sharp section on a knife after you buy it with either a grinder of some sort or ever so slowly manually with a file.
There are case uses when I like a micro-bevel and others when I don't, I am glad they gave us the choice to put one on if we want.

I don't mind hearing Bandit in the background, but I can't hear what you are saying because it sets off my four dogs. 😂
Good review, nice knife, iffy sheath. And, the tip does the hokey pokey 😅
All the best your way Jake!

Hello, I ordered mine in blue too, it arrives this week to my country Chile, I'm sorry I can't use your purchase links since they wouldn't arrive, I love the design of the knife Mr. Ivan I want you to know, I will do my review in Spanish as soon as my shipment arrives, I can make a simple leather sheath by friction and I will show it in my review, the one it has does not do justice to this beautiful knife ... and I agree with all aspects of the design, it can't have a guard because it hinders work in the reverse position (it happens to many knives, the flipper is annoying) I have two Brother Scandi but in D2 and I like the 14c28N Sandvick better, I will compare them ... I also don't do batoning for that I have a small Viking axe type tomahook ... cordial greetings from Chile

Thanks for that great comment. Expecially about using the knife in reverse postion, I should hav ementioned that.
I wish you a wonderful week.

What a predicament, I don’t care much for the sheath of the Pathfinder nor the grip of the Zenith. I’ll look into the folder. Like comedian Jim Gaffigan says, he’s not outdoorsy either.😁

Jim is definitely a NYC boy, I like to think I am a bit more country than he is. :)
Grip feel is very important for long term happiness with a knife, never compromise.

Turns out it was not Ivan's idea to do the sheath that way, it was RSK's idea. He says he is the one who designed the sheath for the Zenith.
