I watched EVA for the first time last month and immediately wanted to watch TTGL as a palate cleanser. Hadn't seen it since I was 16 and GOD DAMN it's better than I remember. Shit is some of the most inspirational anime I've ever seen and honestly it's like the exact antithesis of EVA.
