      Thanks so much! As a child I used to play. "teacher teacher" 🤣 and then taught at a school for 7 years, and now coach jewellery designers, so one could say I enjoy it! ☺️

    Wonderful video...Thank you! Great to have someone who's not already familiar with the process. Helps to identify the areas we'll all need guidance on.

    Hiya Megan,
    Good video, thank you. A few minor points, when Sjaan was sawing, the saw was far from upright, in fact significantly sloped forward. But far more critical her hair was free near the Dremel, you must have your hair pulled back and secured for anything like drilling as it is so easy for the ends to be caught in the drill and pulled from your scalp, in fact 'Be Scalped'! A few years before I did my apprenticeship that very accident befell one of the apprentices. We had to wear cloth hats with a hair net at the back for long hair. It was the 70s' and male long hair was 'Cool', mind I still have a ponytail.
    Stay safe, Steve...

      Hi Steve, Sjaan is quite tall and my table is set up for my height and I don't have an adjustable chair so it was a bit hard for her to straighten the blade. I did keep encouraging her to try though. But for her first time, I think she managed to cut pretty well. And the hair, yes I usually always get students to tie their hair up. Nobody wants to get scalped 😰 Hope you are doing well, Megan

    Hi Megan, great video, I like to see how others teach (well) - as it's a huge part of the students success. I have a quick question: why do you have her use a needle file (the very hardest to keep on an edge and usually gives not as smooth transitions), instead of using the largest (flat hand file) you have, but in a fine cut? Larger area on a file gives much smoother lines, less falling off, more control = more success - and wayyy easier. If you feel otherwise, I'm very interested to understand your reasons. Thanks so much. Totally loving this video. You have such great natural light going on!

    • @megan.collins
      @megan.collins  Před 2 lety

      Hello hello, thanks for watching. 😉 I use the needle file with beginners because it takes off less metal so I find it safer for the first time so that the student can shape it as they like slowly rather than taking off a big chunk in the wrong way when they are still learning how to use the file properly. And I only have a course big file. 😉

    Hiya Megan,
    Good video, thank you. Two points if I may? The saw was sloping forward when Sjaan was using it. Her hair was very near the Dremel when she was drilling, having your hair pulled out, or 'Scalped' would not be
    good. An apprentice a few years before I did my training did that very thing and was left half bald. We had to wear cloth hats with a hairnet in the back as longhair was fairly common back then in the 70s', I've still got a ponytail.
    Stay safe, Steve...

    Are the small sanding sticks made or sold like that?

      You can but them like that, but they wear out quickly, so I just cut the sandpaper and add more of my own. 😉
