I made it after noticing that none of the others have a pedal mechanism for turning. After making the video, I made a new seat so that the child sits a bit closer to the handles. The "bell crank" mechanism for loading the bucket allows the bucket to be filled by pulling on the right lever which is more realistic and more intuitive than pushing. The bucket is a bit big and gets too heavy when completely filled so I added a small nitrogen cylinder to push it up. This is what is happening at the start of the video when the child is just sitting there and the boom is slowly rising. The pedal system is a boat trailer screw jack turned upside down and a second crank welded on the opposite side. Under the seat are two gears and a chain which are recessed into the thick wooden seat to keep little fingers safe!
The mechanism is a boat trailer jack turned upside down with a second crank (homemade) welded onto the end of the factory made crank. Bicycle pedals were added. The trailer jack is the type with two beveled gears inside which just happen to be the right ratio to turn the shaft the right speed. Two gears and a chain are recessed in the wooden seat.
Looks like a liability night mare with the scissor points for a kids fingers to be cut off..... I bet every lawyer in the country is watching and waiting for this.....
This is awesome!! I have twins on the way and I and very interested in building one myself. May have to pick your brain a bit when I get to building
Does the extra pivot points for the bucket give you more leverage?
