Iceland's conditions for photography are difficult. And on today's vlog, my camera was launched off a cliff in a windstorm. Visit: www.squarespac... My Camera Gear: bit.ly/BvSGear
19 min video from Brendan. Saved it so I could watch uninterrupted, sat in my car by the beach. Always get fired up to grab my camera and head out after watching.
It's soooo good to see you doing what you do best. Great to see you travelling and vlogging about it. This is what I grew to love about your channel and you. Thanks, Brendan
The dynamic duo together again! ICELAND is ON my LIST, it looks fantastic, I've seen many VLOGs from there but watching yours is something special and the images are fantastic! I may have to book a flight from AUSTRALIA SOOOOOON! Cheers, looking forward to the next episode ( a fantastic substitute for being there)
Great video and enjoyed the honesty of your errors forgetting the ball head as it shows how the human element of our trade can really challenge you.We all have forgotten something on our trips and me included (several times).Look forward to the next video👍👍
Those aqua blues against the bright white snow are stunning! The landscape and your shots are breathtaking Brendan. My fingers lost feeling watching you guys out in that wind!
It's so great to see you back in Iceland again! I'm starting to think that Iceland knows when you come because it has to present some new challenges for you every time. I'm glad the camera survived!
Great to see you again! It’s been a long time since the last video. But wait! Where did the 2nd coffee shop and the roaster come from? Time for a personal video I think.
I think camera reviews should include a 'drop test'! If ever there was an advert for Canon cameras being able to withstand that sort of event and still work is it. OK the lens got damaged but sounds like it still worked.
I feel you, few years back I was in Snaefellsnes region, shooting the see. Went to my bag to grab something to clean the lens (It was VERY windy), while I was turning back to my camera, my tripod, my 5d4 and 1635 decided that it was time for them to take a flight. *luckily* the lens hood and the CPL filter took all the damages (also the body was severely bruised) I was able to finish my holidays with a working camera.
Question: how do you keep your hands and fingers warm and, more importantly, usable in -18°C cold? Winter photography is a huge challenge for me because my fingers freeze up almost instantly when exposed to cold. My best solution so far is touchscreen gloves inside woolen photography mittens, but even that isn't ideal. Also, anyone who thinks Canon RF bodies aren't tough enough for pros should hear your story and mine. 👍🏿
I live in Alaska and found the best option even in -30 is to have mittens can hold a hot hands that can fold out quickly to touch what you need. Those touch screen gloves have never worked for me!
@@KrisLuckPhoto Also in Alaska and use mittens with hothands. Just got back from Iceland with a pair of wool mittens I'm excited to take out this winter for aurora shooting
Hi Brendan. Love your videos, learning so much about photography. What dates was this trip ? We are planning a trip to Iceland (from Australia) and would like to do a driving trip but are concerned with the weather. Thanks, Shane
tough things these cameras. my GFX100 and 23mm lens fell off my tripod just the other day straight down onto tarmac. no damage - the L-bracket and filter holder bore the brunt. lucky though and a stark reminder that insurance is an absolute must.
For all the times we sit in the office peeking through our hands to see if your tripod falls in the water from putting your camera so close to the edge… the wind decides it wants your kit 😅 ping us a message Brendan!
Are you using the R6 or the EOS R? I currently have the Nikon z5 but I really like the flip out screen on the Canon and the color science as well. Thanks!
Do you have any updated tips for traveling I want to bring all the things but I also want to pack light ! Much love from Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦 I’m visiting Philippines in September and this is so fun seeing travel vlogs
Hi Brendan when was this shot... from the weather and sunrise times it seems jan feb... just so i know for when i plan my trip cheers... great video, love my r5
Great promotion for the durability of the R6. Are you sure the Barney Mode wasn't turned on in the Sony Camera🤔😂😂😂 Missing 2mm's, size really does matter lol Despite all the issues the images came out great, just goes to show you, it's not the lens that's important but it's the Camera Body 🤣🤣🤣 Great video👍😎
Just curious. What time of year was this? I’m going late September and hoping it’s not crazy like this. Minus the snow part but no wind so I can fly the drone
My camera dropped day 2 and broke the connection of the camera and lens when I was in havasau falls. I was so angry. All that work to get there and can’t shoot but that allowed me to just take in the beauty of the area without distractions
Unfortunately I lost my Nikon D850 and a 16-35 Nikkor to a rogue wave at Thor's Well on the Oregon Coast. I could very well have lost my life too as I was dragged backwards underwater over the reef and wrenched my back something aweful, crawled backed to the car and was in terrible pain for 2 months. Oh did I mention, the pandemic started about a week after the incident.
A year ago, I had just bought an R5 and a week later I was in Cape Cod, shooting in the surf. The water was shallow and the surf mild. I mounted the camera on the tripod a few inches above the water to shoot close-ups of some pebbles as the surf receded. You can see where this is going. A rogue wave came in, and I reflexively jumped back. Then I thought, "The camera!" and I tried to grab it. But I only got hold of the cable release, which made things worse. Between the wave and my pull on the cable, the whole setup toppled over sideways into the surf. I grabbed the camera out immediately, turned it off and popped the battery, wiped it all down as best I could, and rushed back to the hotel. On the way I stopped to buy 10lbs of rice and two plastic containers. At the hotel, I wiped everything down again, then put the camera and lens in separate containers full of rice, and prayed a lot. Three days later, back in NYC, I took the gear out and checked it. The camera worked!! Also, the cards weren't damaged. The 24-105 lens, different story. Luckily I had bought drop/spill coverage and Canon replaced the lens with a refurbished one. Both are just fine today.
I tripped on a step after taking meet and greet photos at a bar (no, I hadn't been drinking), I went down and my Canon 7D that had a Canon flash on top. The camera was under me, and the flash snapped off at the hotshoe. I was prone on the ground with everyone going "Are you OK??" but of course I was checking to make sure the camera was alright! I thought I was in trouble as my shutter wasn't releasing right away, but then figured out I still had flash settings. Camera, being the tank it is, was completely fine, as was the lens, but the flash sure took one for the team. I came out of it with a split lip, but a new Canon flash! Then I flung a Yonguo flash off the same 7D as I didn't have it secured, as those still had the twist connect, and I just didn't have it secure. All I was able to salvage from that were the Eneloops! LOL

What an awesome start to the trip. I wish I had filmed your camera falling off the cliff. Unlucky. Man that Sony footage looks like butter eh 🧈🇮🇸🧈🇮🇸
Love to see you back here Greg!
So glad to see the two of you working together again, my success for you both.

Glad to see you got the first winter video out before we go. See you in Iceland next week.

Amazing video, loved it all! The photos you took are phenomenal!

Amazing travels, absolutely love the Icelandic adventure
Great video and images as allways. Those images looks really great with these cold blues and sprinkled with earth tones. Color theory at it's best!

For somebody who has travelled a lot Brendon - you should know the difference between hail and sleet. That aint hail baby, that is sleet!
Believe me, there was hail. I'm an Alberta boy, I know a ball of hail when it hits me on the head.

How many heart attacks did you have getting your drone down before the weather arrived 😁

love the video BVS

Two coffee shops?
