    I appreciate the nuanced take here. Now that university subreddits are filled with "what laptop for computer science?" type questions again, this really goes to show that the right tool for the job heavily depends on what kind of coding you're doing, ranging from being totally cool with a 10 year old MacBook Pro for your first few C/C++/Java/Python kind of courses, to needing a beefy Nvidia GPU with Cuda cores to train ML models, or anything in between. Though, I can't help but shake the feeling that if you aren't super sure about how your needs may evolve, the base 14" could be the safer bet...?

    This is the laptop I'm planning on getting for spring semester, to get me used to another OS and have a designated school/work laptop so I don't start stressing when using my gaming laptop for relaxing. Knowing the small SSD amount becomes a problem from many reviews, it enforces my plan to get much more storage space and also more RAM. From the sound of this review and others, it sounds like it'll be the best laptop for my current goals. Great content like always!

    • @essayedgar
      @essayedgar Před rokem +3

      If you’re gonna upgrade both RAM and storage you should look into the base 14” M2 MacBook Pro as well, as you’ll be nearing that price. I ended up getting a MacBook Air M2 with 16GB/256GB bc I already have a PC and I’ll only use the laptop for studying (Computer Science) purposes so I don’t need a lot of storage

    • @essayedgar
      @essayedgar Před rokem +1

      And also bc Apple storage upgrades are such a scam - you can buy a tiny external 1TB NVMe for a quarter of the price. But if you truly need that much storage for work, I could see it getting annoying to lug around with you

    • @ezioahmet4192
      @ezioahmet4192 Před rokem

      @@essayedgar I already bought the M2 Air, 16GB RAM, upgraded to 1TB of storage. Same for going to school for Comp Science, and I also have a Windows gaming laptop already too. I'm also using the Mac to use as a secondary backup for any of my important stuff, since I take both my Windows laptop and my Mac everywhere with me. I was able to turn the Mac into a dedicated school/work computer, so I can do any networking or programming stuff in my free time without having to worry about needing an external SSD. And the reason I didn't get the 14 inch Mac is because the price was higher than I was wanting to pay at base level, whereas the Air upgraded was cheaper

    • @essayedgar
      @essayedgar Před rokem +1

      @@ezioahmet4192 Ah I see. Hope you enjoy your laptop, sounds like it works well for you! I also have a decent spare Windows laptop and a beefy Windows PC to Remote Desktop into if need be. That coupled with the fact that you can use software like Parallels to run Windows 11 ARM means the MacBook Air is a really good choice for us CS students :)

    its been quite some time since I've started developing mobile applications using react native (expo) and flutter. React native (expo) is a clear winner when it comes to resource consumption. Flutter is so resource heavy and requires both cooling and resources (RAM & CPU). Its important to note that this doesn't mean that react native is better. heavy development process doesn't mean bad results, as a matter of fact. flutter performs better in many sides.

I do coding as well + little photo and video side. I'm wondering about the heat, since there is no fan inside. Is it something to "worry about" in long term? I believe M3 handles it even better. Currently thinking.. should I Go M3 Air or Pro. As well depends how many ports they give. I mean that is hot but compared to my intel Mac Pro running VSC that is super impressive. If I didn’t have a fan on my Mac would be way hotter, just a thought about how well the silicone does handle heat!

    Currently I mostly work on React but maybe in the future i might go to mobile app dev. My main concern was related to throotling in airs as the temp rises. Is that really a big issue or it rarely happens?

    with your proficiency at describing, i can see you creating a new channel to teach people in other domains(Machine learning, Coding).
    It would be nice to have your perspective on that.

    I will be running all kinds of programming languages starting from cybersecurity, web development, app development, cloud computing, software development, etc. I would need appropriate high performing apps for that so would the MacBook still be a good choice? Or should I go for windows?

    im afraid about the thermals, are they really that bad constantly? makes my kinda scared tbh. i do like the looks of the mba over the mbp a lot more. it looks way better in my opinion, but that doesnt justify the thermals. if the thermals dont damadge the laptop overtime then thats okay i guess.
