  • We're the emergency supply people - so what do we put in our own kits? Zenia invites us into her home and walks through her own go-bags and shelter in place kit.

I landed on your CZcams by accident and I am not a person who has a bugout bag, but it struck me that many of the items in the go bag were just thrown in as you obtained them but did not pack them as you would have done if you had gone backpacking, A can of water but no cup and your toothpaste given pride of place in the outside, Did you have a whistle tied to the outside of the backpack ?

Thank you for your great comments. :)
Since this is Zenia's kit, we asked her to respond:
"I did not pull them out in the video, but the pot/pan set includes cups and bowls, so happily that is covered. I try to put the small, fiddly items in the smaller pockets on the outside of the bag so that it's easy to find them without digging through the main bag, which is why I chose to keep my hygeine supplies, hand warmers, chargers, etc there. Many of the items were thrown in as I obtained them, as I try to add to the kit every year, but as mentioned, I'm not as diligent as I should be about going through the supplies to organize and check for expiry dates.
To me, it's better to have the supplies unorganized, than to not have the supplies - and if the extra work of repacking would put me off adding to the kit, then I'll skip it! But that's just me. The whistle is a great idea - I'll add that to my list. Outside of one trip, I'm not a backpacker, so I'm always open to tips and tricks."
