- I talk to a local coin shop owner about coins shops and bullion dealers. If you are looking for a local coin shop near you or if you are wanting to know what coin shops to avoid then this is your video. Some coin dealers have massive red flags and should be avoided. On the flip side coin shops are excellent. If can be hard finding a coin store with good prices. The first thing to do is look for any bullion dealers in your area. Next go to these gold and silver dealers and talk to them. Be on the lookout for prices and also how the coin dealer is treating you. At Harry's Coin Shop in Oregon they always treat everyone with respect and dignity. Please share your favorite local coin shop in the comments below.

I think one of the amazing things about this shop is it was created as a life long dream. Harry isn’t here to make a pile of money. He wants to make money to pay his crew and keep his doors open. Amazing. I met him last week and he’s exactly like what you see on the video.

I'm from Redlands, CA and I used to go to a shop called Coop's Coins back in 2013-14 or so. It's a family-owned business. One woman who worked there blatantly said, "people who buy silver instead of gold are flat out stupid." I never went back.
I wish we had coin shops like this in Ireland. I've only ever been able to buy bullion online, there's just nowhere like this here unfortunately. Something I really like about the US, how there's an ability to built a rapport with the shop owner and see the merchandise in person, rather than it just being a sterile transaction. Looks so much more fun!

I hear all these stories about "my LCS wont deal with anything but gold eagles or buffalos" . Harry seems like he would give you a fair price on any gold coin and personally I think it boils down to expertise and Harrys shop has it in spades. I love that they actually LOVE coins it seems unlike many other shops.
100% on the prices. If you can’t tell me your price, it tells me you’re going to try to scam me. Imagine if Walmart had no prices and just made it up at the register.
I don't know how many places I've left because there are no prices. I get that maybe high end collectable coins are unpriced, but not pricing common and bullion coins is beyond frustrating. Thanks!
This is a hobby, its a lesiure time activity thats fun... that is EXACTLY what i tell people when they ask me why i am addicted to trading silver for silver or gold for silver or buying etc... its freakin fun!! I will shop at Harrys before i die...

Went into the store last Saturday for the first time.Had a great experience, picked up 10oz bar and $10 of junk silver.
I think of Harry as "The Professor." Adrien, Richard and whoever else is behind the counter are the grad students, ready to add depth and perspective. Always good information and insight that is easily explained and keeps the viewers wanting more.

I'm not sure this is a "red flag" but it is what causes me to drive a bit further than my local shop. I've been to a few different shops that will let me sort junk silver for specific dates. It's been a lot of fun setting my gf on some specific dates while I further discuss business with the shop owner. My local shop does not allow that. To much hassle I guess. BUT it does cause me to go to further away shops.
To be fair there could be people that have stolen coins this way. You’re digging around, it’s easy to pocket some coins. I get why that would be iffy unless you do a lot of business with them.
@@TheBajamin Yea that's certainly been my thoughts on it. Also I don't really have a relationship with the local shop yet could be part. I tend to buy when I go visit grandparents. Extra adventure I suppose. I should visit the local shop more often. But um... no sales tax on this stuff in other states I've been buying lol.
Bill's Coins in Jackson MS is my go-to every time. Great prices, great guys, even for being the only true coin shop in town.

Time out. Jackson MS has some good prices? I'm from seminary but travel country for work. In Tahoe now. Deal with the shops in Carson city. No personality in those shops. Feels like a funeral home. I'm almost to depressed to spend my cash with them

In Cincinnati my top are: Coins Plus downtown, Franklin Street, Main Street in Hyde Park and my most frequented is Queen City Rare Coin in Blue Ash - I’m extremely lucky to have multiple FANTASTIC local shops and would be proud to send customers to any of them

Watch for bait and switch tactics. A bullion dealer who agrees to one price and when you show up .10 minutes later, drastically changes the price is someone you never want to do business with. This happened to me.
Yeah I had a shop I walked into for the first time offer me a 580 dollar 5 dollar Indian head if I came back “next week”. Well gold went from 2250 to 2370, you think he was still gonna sell it for 580?
I highly doubt it. And that bothered me, he had no fractional gold. The shop I went to last weekend had options for anything and everything and even took my number down for platinum when they find some

Harry sure knows the customer psyche. He knows to be friendly and greet customers and he does have the price marked so you don't need to ask.
Just a general comment---when I read people's "reviews" online, I do not automatically believe everything some random stranger writes on line. I've worked with the public in many ways, and there are a lot of miserable human beings out there who carry their bad attitude inside them or like a chip on their shoulder---and they create negativity wherever they go. Whether it's a shop or a restaurant, whatever. So, take it all with a grain of salt. This is a really nice video, though---great idea to have this discussion. I liked what Harry said about remembering that it's a hobby or leisure activity that you can hopefully have fun with! I've had a blast learning about stacking and a tiny bit of numismatics over the past 3 or so years! Your channel has been part of that, thanks Silver D~!
I agree with your statement on not trusting what stranger's write; or say. Just look at how trolls operate, on YT.
However, because someone you've just met may seem to have a 'bad attitude,' it does not necessarily make them an immoral person, let alone one with criminal intent. There are those who aren't people persons, & don't relate well.
Just like there are con-men, who have real charisma, & can form perceived trust quickly. Trust should be earned, not given. Those are the ones that raise red flags with me.
I agree with Harry about the customer service & the experience being joyful, given it’s a fun hobby.

I go to Allen's coin shop in Westerville Ohio. They are busy sometimes and you might have to wait in line. But they have a great selection.

Lucky enough to live within a 5 min drive of Harry’s - as a new collector, hands down always have a fantastic experience with every visit.
As a consumer, I think it’s better to bargain over the phone. In my personal experience I have often gotten better rates because I inquire first before I visit, when i am already in the shop I found that dealers are less inclined to give better rates because you are already in their store. But if you ask them over the phone they may be inclined to give you better deals to get you into their store.

Harry is the best. I look at shops on Google street view and call ahead to see if they have friendly voices. I ask if they carry Morgan Dollars -- and if they say they only handle "rare coins" or "only bullion," i don't bother. In the shop a welcome greeting is important to me as a woman because all too many coin, hobby, and comics shops ignore female customers. As Harry says, product prices give people confidence that the dealer is fair to everyone. Finally, i like to pick out my own junk silver, and some shops won't allow that.
I like Harry's suggestion about coin shows...but in today's market, you're never too isolated to not find a good dealer over the net (like Harry, and others)!
Problem is, deal with a shop over the net, there is a record. Sometimes, cash is king.
I like Harry's shop. If I lived in that area, that's the shop I would go to. Hands Down.👍👍

Yes. I definitely like pricing on everything. Don't think I've ever been in a LCS that has prices on PM'S.
All of them are really nice picks. But the potential of project that elegantly combine blockchain and AI is Amazons ARH50X and should not be overlooked, I guess. Among them, this truly tackle real-world problems and have vibrant ecosystems, like Aiwork.
So what about cities that only have 1 coin shop and the shop knows this. My 1 shop tends to have his prices very high. They also have the attitude as if they dont necessarily need your business. I hate the idea of having to drive 100's of miles to find a good shop.

Great video guys. My trusted LCS is Cash for Gold in Fort Gratiot Michigan. Jeff's great. My not so local LCS is the Gold Cove 10 mile and Gratiot in East point Michigan. The older owner comes down on price. His teenage kids...not so much. Their great though ✌️
Having the prices readily available makes buyers more comfortable. They don't need to feel like having the uncomfortable exchange about maybe not being able to afford it at that time.
The last coin shop I visited was Harry's. He was great to deal with, and I will be back.

In Denver, Rocky Mountain Coins is an awesome coin shop. Also in Denver there is a big coin show that they have twice a year.
Agreed, no price tags reminds me of something my dad used to tell me... if you have to ask, you can't afford it... if you want it, get it... price doesn't really matter. lol
My LCS is 50 miles away in Elizabethtown KY. Heartland Coins, great place to go but with work and life in general it is hard to get to a lot of times when I want to. So you guys that have a trustworthy one near by, Be glad.

I live in Tennessee and I buy from The Coin Purse in Nashville. Friendly, knowledgeable, good selection and price. If I'm ever back in Portland though, I'll definitely come visit Harry.

Edelman's Coin Shop outside of Philadelphia (Jenkintown) is a great place. Good prices when selling and good prices when buying. Lots of great inventory and knowledgeable.
Smitty's in the Finger Lakes region upstate NY. Good selection and real world prices. Always has boxes of the whole range of junk silver and plenty of cool numismatic items to browse. Their limited hours are tough to get a hang of but keeps me from going too often!

Great video, I would normally drive 45 minutes to a coin shop I’ve been going to for the last 3 months. My issue is this dealer keeps his kilo silver bars in his safe and will not tell you nothing about the bar, you buy it and he goes in the back and grab it. I would like to see what I’m buying. Going to call Harry’s and place an order this Friday. Such a awesome looking shop… thanks again for the video…
I never mind waiting when I'm in a business to do something important. Actually I use it to my advantage to see how things go with attitudes, etc, etc. This will give me an advantage for when I go to the counter, as i will be more prepared.

My husband and I are retiring this year with over $7,000,000 in tax deferred investments. up until 3 years ago we were 100% in the S&P. During bear markets we had a perfect plan. We got an investment manager in our corner and didn’t look at our portfolio for nearly a year.
Same here, 75% of my portfolio is in the red and I really don’t know how long I can stomach the losses. I’m beginning to reach a breaking point.

7:55 This applies to gun shops too. I saw a neat .22 Ruger pistol and didn’t see a price tag. I asked and they had to look it up. $600+. Nope.

My only LCS has to buzz me in, open lobby with the owner behind thick glass. Nothing on display and you have to know what you want and ask what they have, and then ask for the price. Very fair older gentleman that knows his stuff and has decent prices, it’s just not as nice to have to ask what they have if you want to see new things. Wish I had a local shop like Harry’s.
Try Kansas. Everything out in the open. And a few times I've had shops just pull out the trays for me to look through while they help other customers.

I got my start stacking at Phil's Coins in Wichita Kansas many years ago. One of the things I really like about Phil is that all the employees are armed and they will escort you out to your car if you've made a large purchase. That was very reassuring to me and my elderly mother when we went there 1 day and bought quite a bit.
Phil helped me out also when I was starting out 25 years ago!
