    I met Delta in 1998 when she came to Atlanta on a book tour. She had written her autobiography. She was absolutely stunning in person. Even under the harsh florescent lighting of a bookstore, her skin was absolutely flawless, and her eyes sparkled like blue topaz. She was so sweet and excited and appreciative that people "actually showed up to see her" (her words). She posed for 2 pictures with me, and I still have them framed on display in my home. When Delta Burke takes a photo with you, she wraps both arms around you and gets really close. She was a complete delight.

    • @erikandrus4387
      @erikandrus4387 Před 2 lety +5

      @@iseley I agree with you. It was the talents of each of the ladies that Linda as creator drew from when "Designing Women" began to germinate in her mind. I think Delta Burke was the breakthrough star for many reasons - she was pithy, great comedic timing, yet as stunning as Vivian Leigh (and GWTW was still a much a revered classic in the 80's), and yet she was gaining weight (something a lot of women and men could relate to). There was a lot of fascination surrounding Delta, just as much as there was the same kind of love for Estelle Getty's feisty octogenarian "Sophia" on " The Golden Girls". And even more recent Kim Cattrall's unapologetic "Samantha" on "Sex and the City". That core four are chosen for a reason, and when they are written together they create the machine. But when you take one away, the show is still a show, it's just never the same show that from the moment we saw it fell in love with. People have to recall Jean Smart left too... there was a big gap left by her, and it would have been the same had Dixie, Annie, or Meshach checked out.

    Delta... You are one of THE BEST things to happen to television. Years and years from now you will be known for your character portrayal and your beauty--both inside and out.
    I flinch when I hear you refer to yourself as "fat." Your body has changed. All bodies change depending on a variety of factors.
    You will always be an icon to so many of us!

    Honestly, I only watch the episodes of Designing Women that has Delt Burk. All of the other ones I delete when my DVR records them. I really tried to watch a few of the others, but it just doesn't have the same spunk and energy that Delta brings with her character and the other 3 or 4 new cast members simply couldn't make up for that loss. Delta just always brought the laughs and was so great of an actress and great to look at😊💯❤️

    I remember this interview and thinking that she just signed her death warrant. The most heartbreaking part of this was the betrayal of Dixie. She was truly a good friend and I’m sure out of everything that happened to Delta on the show, this was probably the worst thing that happened between them. I’m happy that they tried to get past this, but you know it’s never the same....💕❤️💕

      If you watched the video, she outlines the betrayal she felt during this time period, as Dixie took the side of the creators. Although, Delta later returned a few years later, seemingly have forgiven Bloodworth-Thomason for Women of the House, her and Dixie didn’t speak for more than a decade. They reunited for the reunion in 2015, I believe, seemingly have forgiven each other, but it’s hard to say if they were ever as close again. Just my opinion, but if there is something out there that says otherwise, please let me know.

    People who are warm hearted and generous are often taken advantage of and then because they are taken advantage of and yes, even abused, they end up having low self esteem. Then other people think they can also treat that person badly. Many people like to be cruel and even thrive on it. Then when the abused person finally stands up for themselves, people label them as the difficult one. I recognize this so strongly. People love to kick someone when they are down and what the abusers don't realize is that THEY are primarily the cause of why that person is down in the first place.

    • @faithfulforever6331
      @faithfulforever6331 Před 3 lety +4

      And people may think it is a huge advantage to be good looking, and in many ways it is; however, people need to realize that because others are often jealous of someone else's looks, they think they can be cruel to that person. And there is that old stereotype that good looking people have to be dumb or they aren't taken seriously. Good looking people often have to prove their intelligence; whereas, average looking people don't have to do that to nearly as great an extent. And having to prove yourself constantly, also adds to the person's low self esteem.

  • @legalfictionnaturalfact3969

    My first thought regarding Delta versus Dixie on this matter is that Dixie felt she didn't have quite the repertoire or scope that Delta did. So she refused to speak up about the Designing Women producers and she played it safe. But Delta Burke's world was bigger and she wasn't as afraid of what one group of producers could do to her. Delta was Brave to speak up and her producers we're just more arrogant, control freak, rich kid egomaniacs. They were truly delusional about how important they were and about what they could actually get away with without everyone looking and laughing at their babyish antics. Pathetic. Go burke.
