Hi James! Really enjoyed this! :-)
A few important notes though: Front disc is on backwards. (yes they can be on backwards)
The front brake tube is dropping down the wrong way. (it will rub on the tyre when turning if it stays where it is) It needs to go in front of the head tube where the other tubes are.
And a small technical detail, The steer tube, (which you called a stem) is not tapered on this fork set. It's the head tube on the frame that's tapered.
Honestly not having ago or criticising. I'm a bike fanatic and just want the kids bike to be right, and maybe he can learn some stuff about it so he can maintain it himself, and ride safely.
Keep doing your thing though, and looking forward the the next episode!! :-)

If I'm not mistaken the front disk was put on the wrong way. The forces while braking will cause the disk to want to shrink towards the hub how it is currently orientated. Usually there is text/etching on the disk which shows which way should face away from the wheel. All of my disks have been this way. I have used, BBS, Shimano, tektro, and TRP disks in the past which all have the "spokes" of the disk pointing forwards in order to counter the forces created while braking. Cheers from South Africa!
