  • My first project of 2024 is complete and its one that I've wanted to do for a long time as its a scene from my favourite WW2 movie 'The Longest Day' depicting Commander Colin Maud who was a Beachmaster on D-Day,
The movie has a few inaccuracies in that the scene is set on Sword Beach but Commander Maud was actually the Beachmaster on Juno Beach. He was also given the temporary rank of Captain for the D-Day landings, hence his shoulder boards are not those of a Commander. Maud's real dog 'Winston' was a German Shepard and not a Bulldog, I've read that the directors changed the dog as there is a German Shepard in a another scene and they didn't want two dogs the same to confuse the viewer. Maud was also a technical advisor for the movie and the shillelagh wielded by actor Kenneth More in the movie is actually Mauds own.
Anyway, some of you have noticed that the Universal Carrier has been sat on my shelves for a few years and here it is finally used in a diorama 👍

Outstanding diorama. A very nice tribute to Commander Maud.

The longest day is one of my favourite movies since I was a kid, and your diorama is very close to the movie layout itself. From a modeling point of view I like very much the result. Particularly I find very hard to get a realistic sand beach result and yours is quite good.

The Longest Day was, and still is, a great golden year's epic. Now one of it's scenes commemorated in miniature.....grand job, beautifully depicted.

Excellent piece of work. A lighthearted scene from a superb film, lost count of the number of times I`ve watched it.

  • @_Jaspy_

Fantastic work again! This is a fine example of a very simple base with the right compostion with armor and figures and how great it looks. Beginner diorama makers take notes!

  • @alwoodsmodellingmayhem

What a fantastic result!!! 👏👏👏👏Such a character in the film. And very apt as it is the 80 anniversary of D-Day this year. Well done again and thanks so much for showing us the process this diorama went through and sharing it with us.👍👍😉

  • @KGmodels

Looks immaculate,I have also considered recreating certain movie scenes,Like the T34 and magnetic mine scene from Stalingrad 1993.Recommend you watch if you haven’t!Looks great once again and can’t wait for more!

  • @graemeatkinson2138

Well sir, I think you gave this a jolly good "bash" !!!!! Brilliant modelling to replicate a fun scene from a special and important movie. Outstanding.

  • @fotomakr

That came out really cool! The multiple variations in the beach painting didn’t make sense until the reveal at the end and the shading and colors pop out.
