- It could easily be hailed as one of the biggest mistakes in their companies history and surely one they regret even more. Blizzard looked the other way when a sleeping giant in the MOBA genre of video game was sleeping in their own house. Instead of captializing on it they drove them out. I took a small dive into the history and rise of DotA and League of Legends as a video game and everything Blizzard missed out on in this short video essay.

Guinsoo didn't give up Dota development because he started working at Riot in 2005, he did so because he was addicted to WoW and basically wasn't updating the mod anymore. Plus, he was horrible at balancing heroes.
Because they planned to leave DotA and steal the ideas of DotA Players and use it on their game

Maybe it's too late, but you didn't mention how Valve won the term "Dota" legally against Blizzard, how both Riot and Valve, hell even S2 games with HoN capitalized the genre bcs Blizzard too busy doing shit
Yeah. It was sold by Pendragon and Guinsoo in the first place anyway which belongs to the DotA Community. It's not their property. It was a combination of different ideas and creativity by different players and developers
This is a great video man! Keep it up! Also Dota players (myself included) begged for years to Blizzard make Dota a stand-alone title. Guess it served them right in the end, and Valve+Icefrog made a great job with game, so i think it all turned out for the best in the end...specially for us the players =)

I remember the day League of Legends was introduced to us. My friends and I were all at a friends house just waking up for another Dota and other mods gaming session. It's been about a month or 2 since League's release and I asked if they wanted to try it out. Since it was it's own client we had to dowload it for the day then create a "clan tag" as we did in Dota. The only servers at the time was NA, EUW and EU Nordic East. What a time to be alive back then. Till this day we switch from Dota to League every now and then.
When you realize the Creator of Dota is the Creator of LoL. Guinsoo Created LOL, Icefrog created HoN then Dota 2.
ice frog is also implemented League of legends. back in early days when lol is a thing yet.
guinsoo created first buggy dota first but icefrog continued the buggy game wiht lot of improvement

lmfao guinsoo was not the one who created the dota, EUL is the one that was creating the dota NOT GUINSOO, ah i guess league player iq is so low they cant even research a simple one and make that up to shove that proudness in stealing someone work as always just like valulrant

I think it was better for everyone that blizzard didn't buy these two games considering their recent shenanigans
I think the decision of not going ahead with DotA is only what it is in hindsight, so the criticism doesn’t lie with the decision itself, it was the thought process that leads to it that shows shortsightedness of the company, alongside its arrogance in a way.
Riot, even though has their own annoying problems, still produces games that are fun to play, free to play and a constant stream of update keeping all of us coming back to it time and time again.
The culture and attitude between the two companies really shows when we look at the decisions that they made. Money grabbing is fine, a company gonna make money to stay afloat, it’s how they do it that either piss off players or entice players .
Damn I hope those devs that created dota and the precursors got paid like they deserved, but I imagine the companies just stole their hard work and ideas and left them out to dry

Good video. Missed plying dota1. Now I'm more of a league player since dota 2 couldn't reach my expectations i switch to league. Dota 2 was just different.

Dota 2 was literally Dota 1 ported into its own engine. They were literally the same Game, it was not different, but better. That wasn't the reason you jumped to League and "miss" Dota 1.

Huge mistanke by Blizzard indeed. And they prooved it without dont when they released heroes of the Storm. Moba was the next big thing after Mmo's but then again you gotta admire Blizzards excellent map editors that they provide included in all their rts. And they dont Even force u to sign off your rights to them.

i hate Mobile legends, its shit.ty game.. this youngsters today doesnt know mobile legends is just a copycat concepts of Dota. but mobile legends is shi.t theres no anti of any hero or item. example theres a hero in mobile legends that disapper like Rikimaru in Dota. but in Mobile legends there is no gem to buy to see him.. such a stupid game.

If u already used to play mlbb, you'll have good start to play Dota or even LoL. For me back then Dota was my first MOBA, no idea what to do, spend 30minutes in mid but turret still clean, get lost, gave up on tutorial, then play LoL, get used to it and back to play Dota again.
Honestly this video wasn't good you explained the origin of the mod well but you didn't mention anything about how valve got the rights and how lol and dota 2 grew or about hots
