Make Your Bath Time Sparkle with Twilight Bath Bombs!

- Make STUNNING TWILIGHT Bath Bombs DIY!!! Learn how to make a twilight bath bomb with delicate swirls of sparkling salt! They look even better in the water!
RECIPE: 2 cups (500 grams) baking soda, 1 cup (200 grams) citric acid, 1/2 cup (60 grams) corn starch. 20 milliliters fragrance oil, 15 milliliters polysorbate 80, & 5 milliliters cocamidopropyl betaine. Sieve dry ingredients together. Mix wet together then slowly add to dry while whisking- the slower the better. Then mix batch together with hands. DIVIDE: In order to get different reactions in the bomb, divide the mix into 2; add 1 tablespoon sodium lauryl sulfoacetate to the exterior batch. Add 1/8 cup sodium alginate to the interior (or replace with 1/8 cup of corn starch). *** UPDATE: This mix looks a bit more wet than usual. If it's too wet, try 15 milliliters fragrance oil, 10 milliliters polysorbate 80, & 7.5 milliliters coco betaine. They don’t have to be exactly & precisely divided. Color as desired.
OPTIONAL: I took a bit of both mixes & darkened them & added silver stars & glitter for an extra sparkly show at the end! Originally, I was going to make silvery sparkly swirls on the exterior… I tried it actually, but it didn’t look right. MOLDING: Place a bit of exterior mix, then sprinkle a tiny bit of salt around the edges. Pour more exterior mix & salts. Then hollow out center; pack mix in & make a “shell”. Place interior mix in, fill all the way to the top. Pack it down, then add loose mix on top. Repeat for other side. Smoosh 2 sides together tightly; make sure the molds touch all the way around. Gently place bomb in holder mold & dry for 24 hours. RESULTS: These bombs were awesome! I really enjoyed all the foam, sparkles, & glitter. I feel like you will also enjoy making them! Put your own twist & spin on them & make them your own creation! It's very fun to create stuff- even if you copy-cat or piggy-back off another design (I do it all the time)!

I had the same problem with a similar mould. The seller said to make the mix dryer and it will work, he was right too. I now make lovely bath bombs with it. Hope that helps.

Hello Dora. Love Love your videos. I was wondering if the powder colour you mix in with you dry ingredient is mica or something else. Sometimes you will add mica to the wet ingredients in the little shooter glass you use and mix it before adding to the dry. Do you use mica for everything?

maybe try the mold in a press so that you are not twisting it because i think that is where you are having it mess up because patterned molds like that are not supposed to be twisted

It looks as though the stars are hooking onto your bomb. Try using MP with a string for grip in it to see if you can pull it out without damage.
Yes! That's what I figured... The stars & moon are too deep or something. I may try it again later down the line, probably not. The amount of frustration was overwhelming. I actually threw it away & then the next day picked it out of the trash can & set it aside. I figured I could use it for something else. But, that is a great idea! I even have some clay... I may try to fill the stars up a bit.
@@CreativeBathLab maybe try to use a Dremel and sand down the edges that are too rough so that it can come straight out it won't be as pretty but should still work

Wow, that's a nice compliment! Thank you. Most of my ideas are 100% original, however, a lot of my bath bomb aspects are inspired by Lush. They have a twilight bath bomb that's blue & purple so I incorporated those colors (Lush's is pinky-purple on the outside & pale blue on the inside) & then with the sparkling salts, I wanted it to look like a starry night sky, or like the milky way or something.

Hey Dora, I know this video is two years old but I’m really struggling here in TX. I followed this recipe EXACTLY but my mix was really dry. I molded the dry mix into a large bomb and let it dry. It was powdery to the touch but performed great. I added a little cocoa betaine to the rest of the mix to get it told mold and used a little smaller mold. Yours performed great but it literally was so soft i was worried about crumbling. The barely wetter ones dropped to the bottom and didn’t foam. Any suggestions if you’re possibly reading this?

MY pleasure sweet pea! & Thanks so much for the encouragement. Sodium alginate is a very expensive alternative to cheap solutions (I have learned). While Knox may add some additional bubbling, it wont do what sodium alginate or guar gum or xanthan gum will do. But, again, these ingredients are optional & not at all necessary to get a wonderful bath bomb!

From what I've seen with other bath bomb makers - the highly detailed hand press molds need a wetter mix. I hope that helps!

I think you want a "wetter" mix, like wetter with oils. Add more oil to the mixture. This should help with the details on the outside of the mold.

Oooh absolutely beautiful! It’s like taking a bath in the Milky Way ....we must be soul sisters because I thought I’m the only one who has monthly “off” days....actually at least a week where I’m totally confused as to why my products aren’t cooperating with me....I’m actually going through it now. I am not doing anything different. Using same recipe & technique but my bombs are freakishly soft where they start to deflate but then they get this crunchy exterior & sticky soft on the inside. Any thoughts on that? 🥴....also, how do you use salts in your bomb with humid weather? Every time I’ve used them in mine; they dry out fine & hard but then they kinda get soft after a week. I think the salts are grabbing the humidity in the air....sorry for the long commentary. You’re actually the only one I would ever ask advice from when it comes to bath bombs. I hold you in very high regards. Luv ya 🥰
Well I really appreciate it, & I'll try to not ever let you down. But yeah, the truth is (most of the time) I go in my studio, I do my thing, & everything comes out amazing! But there's always ONE week out of the month where NOTHING goes right!!! Ah well- can't win them all! I'll check my twilight bombs in a few weeks & let you know if they're softer than normal. However, the amount of salt I used is soo little that I don't think it'd affect the bombs that much. I have put a lot of salt in my bombs before & that bomb turned out to be 1 big mess.... So I don't know- its tricky. Bath bombs are just tricky & finicky things, no matter what. The same recipe (& same temp/humidity) will work one day & then won't the next- I experience this all the time. If the bomb dries fine & is hard, but turns soft over time- yep- that's a humidity problem that is probably due to salts or a humidity source of some kind.. or it could've been just a really wet bomb. But if bombs are soft right off the bat, my guess would be - too much wet, too humid, but probably - not molding the bombs tight enough. As far as a crunchy outside & soft inside I'm baffled! lol I've never experienced this nor heard of it before..... However, I'd guess the dry ingredients weren't sieved well enough & mixed together enough with the wet. I hope this helps.

Don't tap the mold, especially not the tops. Maybe make the mix slightly wetter,oily and squeeze the sides to get a feel for it and keep turning it up and down every few minutes.

That's asking a lot when she's already giving us so much info. Just Google it and you'll have all the measurements in grams. Very easy to do.
My first batch of bath bombs turned out great, but I tried another batch yesterday and mine turned out just like that, just fell apart, I managed to get 10 out of a big batch and the rest of it was just powdery and would not stick together no matter what I did.

Hey! I know what the problem is with 3d molds. A completely different recipe is needed. The mold should be solid and dry.
Recipe:
500 grams of baking soda
180 grams of citric acid
2 teaspoon liquid dye
2 teaspoon flavoring
2 teaspoon base oil
2 teaspoons Polysorbate Twin 80
2 teaspoon sulfate
It is impossible to strongly thrombus the mixture into a mold. Connect the mold, knock lightly from all sides, pull up.

Did you ever figure out what went wrong with your stars and moon mold? At the beginning of your video I see a sleeve that goes on the outside of the mold. The way most of the 3D printed mold s work is you put half of your mold onside the sleeve then add your bath bomb material however you want then put the other half of the mold into the sleeve and squeeze…no twisting with these molds. I normally place it in the table and lean onto the mold. I have arthritis so I can’t squeeze as much as I would like to. Anyway, keep the mold together but remove the outside sleeve and now tap on top, bottom, sides, etc… and remove one piece and hold the bomb in your hand and remove the other side of the mold. Your bomb should be out of the mold and you just need to find a place for it to rest and dry. I didn’t read any other comments so if someone already gave you these instructions I am sorry and just disregard them. Your final bath bomb looked amazing. Next time reach out to the person you purchased the 3D printed mold because I am sure they can help you figure them out. I know I have had to reach out a few times because some molds don’t have a sleeve and I am not sure how they work with a sleeve! I hope you make another video with this mold.
Thank you for the wonderful tips! It's just after numerous batches & countless tries I sort of just gave up. That's not normally my style (never did it before), but believe me when I say- this mold doesn't work! I got some bombs to come out whole, but they NEVER came out complete (they'd have chunks of star missing or whatever). There was one tip that I thought may've worked - but it involved leaving the mix in the mold for a few hours & as I'm sure you'd agree - that's just not economical, convenient, or something I'd be willing to do for an entire batch of bombs. I don't consider myself an expert or anything, but I am very experienced when it comes to bath bombs. And, my thought process is: If I cant get it to work, I am assuming others would have an even tougher time. I will try again in the future with this mold, far down the line & will implement the advice you & others have given me! If all else fails, I will reach out to the owner. I looked on website; 1 review mentioned this mold & it said something like "working on it" or something like that.

I just stumbled across one of your videos and you said the word y'all at the beginning of a video so I kept watching others and I was so pleased to hear you mention you live in Louisiana because so do I! I have had so many problems with making bath bombs that only someone from Louisiana would understand. Most states don't have problems with heat and humidity like we do so it is hard to use other people's recipes and try their tips and tricks because they just don't work. its because you are twisting the molds just slightly i think it is from habit try with a very clean dry mold and just push down tap and lift up. NO TWIST you have broken the bomb before you ever tap it
Agreed. Also the mix appears to be a bit dry. You can brush it with cyclomethicone..it greases the mold
I made several half bombs (no twisting in that) & it still didn't work!
Yes, this was after I added more dry & was messing around with the mix that it became too dry... But I made several batches after that- I even I squeezed the mix on a different batch to demonstrate that my mix was on point. and it still didn't work!!! ☹

I feel ya... It can definitely get crazy expensive - & quick too! The best option is to buy in larger quantities instead of those little gram jars. I buy 3 oz. bags for like 10-11 dollars. Which is an amazing deal. That might not seem like that much mica, but it's a butt load

Seems like the problem with THAT mold is the same as the problem with castings-with-undercuts -- and the same reason you scuff a surface in between coats - the coating holds on nice-n-tight. You could problem cast silicone into THAT mold because it can deform enough to release whereas your drying bath bomb mixture cannot deform itself very much at all. It seems a nice idea, but the demands on the medium are just too great. I LOL'ed when you threw it away - but then retrieved it. It's not good for this, but it'll be good for something. I have a rose mold that doesn't work...I have to say, the petals aren't as deep on my mold as they are in the photos used by the seller. I asked around about how to get the mold to work and it was suggested a food based silicone (pro baker stuff)... it didn't work either. So, that's $40 down the drain. Win some, lose some.

Try drying it on table. Delete salt, that’s a humectant (draws in moisture). Drop wet down to 3 teaspoons (absolute maximum amount u can put).
I tried this and my bombs fell apart even after 24hrs
