    Think about the purpose of suspension in a rock crawler - it's primary purpose is to control the position of the body/frame - and your CG - in relation to the tires/axles/contact patch. With locked diffs, less articulation becomes less important. More, or too much articulation (yes there is such a thing as too much articulation) starts allowing the body/frame/CG to start transferring weight in a more uncontrolled fashion. Look at full scale rock crawlers and bouncers - most of them still have at least 1 sway bar.
    I found this out on my Ryft (portals, AXE 3300 13t pinion, fully locked) which is a really good crawler now. It does MUCH better with the swaybar. Without, it just flops all over the place as the rear suspension dramatically unloads when it needs to be planted. With the swaybay connected, the body/axle relationship is kept within bounds that keeps a stable CG and it just motors on through.

    To much articulation can hurt more than it helps. I like to keep a softer front suspension to let it keep the front of the truck planted. That's where the majority of the weight is. Then I run the rear a little stiffer to fight off the torque twist. Plus a stiffer rear suspension seems to help keep the truck planted.

  • @RyanRKJ
    @RyanRKJ Před 3 lety +1

    Vaterra Ascender had a lot of torque twist. On some obstacles, it could actually be helpful, as the torque twist would help keep the body flat. But of course, when the terrain slopes the opposite way, it hurt.
